Anyone else excited for persistence and barrels?

Recommended Posts

I really, really hope they fixed it for good this update.

95% of this game to me is looting and stashing that loot. I'm really looking forward to the barrel due to it's size, it looks like it will be a lot easier to hide than a tent would be.

I'm counting the days until stable so I can start looting and storing!

Question, I see backpack persistence is only a few days while a barrels is 45, does that mean if the backpack is IN the barrel, the few day rule still applies? Or is it meant for packs stashed under trees?

Thanks!

I'm going to assume you don't put anything inside something that doesn't persist.  Just like the tents.

I feel like an idiot now. LOL. Completely missed that, it's late. Sorry!

Never been too bothered with loot stashes but i can see how people are excited.

As long as they make all persistent items destroyable then i will be happy!

Excited mostly for the smaller stashes. Never enjoyed tents because I never used them to their full extent, and they were far too visible.

My idea of a stash is some spare food and drink, a few extra bullets, and a place to put some things that I use but don't need to carry around with me all the time, e.g. cooking supplies, antibiotics, gardening things.

My pants are tight just thinking about it.

Not trying to be a downer, I hope they get it working properly, but I'm not going to trust it any time soon.

I think they should have worked harder on persistence a long time ago, it's core to the experience.  Without it, long term goals just don't exist.

I fondly remember when I first started playing back in .51.  Pre-CLE persistence was working just fine.  .54 was the best I'd seen it, aside from the lootsplosions.  I was a happy-hoarding fiend.  I made it my point to set up various impressive stashes by lootrunning back to the same place each time after I died, then stashing, grabbing a full bag, and heading off to establish another stash; from which I would promptly head off with nothing but the clothes on my back--and maybe a vest, depending on the destination.

For some reason, strangers really like it when you offer to take them to a place full of guns and food and clothing; it was my own little way of pushing back against the prevailing PVP/KOS playstyle.  After all, there will be plenty of time to kill you later, if they find out you are lying.  Mostly they are just too busy looking through all the bags for the few things they were wanting.

Once persistence works properly again, and I find an Official server that will remain somewhat stable; what I know, will again be more valuable than what I have on my person at the time.

That's how I play too. Full on hoarder.

I find it funny how so many people decry the hoarder playstyle.  Those posts where people make a point to mention that they left behind the gear that they couldn't use; it's like they haven't considered the usefulness of items beyond their own immediate needs.  I'm more than willing to share with anyone, and I mean anyone, who will not kill me for long enough to lead them to a stash or exchange contact info for precise instructions to the location of their desired gear.  I refuse to play .57 stable anymore, and it's tough to get enough play time between a wipe on experimental.  So here I sit in limbo, waiting to fall back into my role as supply depo chief.

I stopped playing .57 when I got fully geared in 15 minutes.

.57 gives us the opportunity to practice with all the guns that will be harder to come by, and more precious to lose when .58 hits stable. But if scavenging and stashing is your thing, .57 would be a drag.

Yes, I cannot wait.

I had just gotten my older brother into the game late .55. So he never got to try the game with persistence and camping.
When .58 had persistence back in, I jumped on and made a camp, and I was so happy.

I made a little campsite with one tent, a barrel sitting next to it, and a fireplace to the side. It was the cutest little camp.

And best of all, everything, even the guns and items I left on the ground, stayed there for four days. [Note: I had interacted/picked up and moved with the guns a few times every other day]

I excitedly brought my brother into exp to show him, and he was ecstatic. We didn't stick with it though: on our patch version, CLE wasn't working properly, and the heat was at unbearable levels, I suppose due to testing.
We, with only a medium level amount of gear on, had to jump into ponds and rivers between each town we traveled to, to get cooled off and soaked enough to make it to the next town.
They reset everything around the time we gave up on burning up and never finding anything. [they've fixed CLE since then, btw, and the temperature is back to normal levels]

-Long story short, me and my brother tried out experimental, and were very happy with how persistence was working.-

We are getting tired of .57. He's learned the ropes, we've gotten into plenty of firefights, and even managed several friendly interactions in the current state.
.58, as long as persistence works as well as it was in exp, will allow us to kick back a bit with backup loot, play some actual survival [hunting, exploring], and open up our gameplay options by allowing us to store different gear for whatever playstyle we're looking for that day.
We cannot wait until .58 comes to stable.

Yes, looking forward to small stashes. Hoarding useless junk was one of my favorite playstyles in the mod. Tents in standalone are nonsensical so I've never used them.
