MadMcardle 175 Posted July 16, 2015 So I have not had much PvP experience yet in DayZ as I am still not great with the controls but I am getting more confident each day. Anyway I have a small group of guys I roll with and I can understand they get a bit bored now and again in the low pops, exploring and capping chickens so I thought I would go for some action tonight with a mate and also meet a new guy who is interested in joining us. I logged in, straight away I hear gun shots and begin to wonder if this was a good idea after all, I just got my ghille suit back! Oh yeah bottom of the stairs, police station (maybe not the best place to join), my guys at the fire station. "On my way to the fire station bud, shots fired so stay safe...wait...WTF...dude the doors locked I can't get out the police station and the shots are coming from upstairs!" I was already pretty pumped up, started searching the ground floor, I need to get out of here, then my mate tells me "Mad I got shot, I need you to head to the roof and distract him so I can get this guy" I can't remember the exact words I used but I wasn't keen on the idea I can tell you, started to make my way upstairs "Mad forget it, I'm dead" Was going great this I thought and the guy I am meeting is just getting in to town, Elektro of course, PvP city! lol. Anyway more shots fired and they sounded a little further a way so I decide to check the back door, its open, I decide to take a peek, slow and steady wins the race... BANG! What the.. I'm shot...my heart goes in to overdrive and I forget the controls... I shoot, I don't even know what at but they stopped shooting at me...I run and jump a fence...shizz I dropped my gun! My hand is actually shaking now and I stupidly go back for my gun! BANG BANG BANG BANG!!! Yep shot again, bleeding a lot now...very grey... I keep running, I'm gonna pass out in a minute I know it, BANG! I'm not gonna make it...then silence, I don't know if the guy has stopped chasing me or just taking a more precise shot but I do know if I don't bandage myself up soon I'm worm food... I made it... I'm ok...turns out the guy that shot me was the guy I was gonna meet, he thought I was still in the police station and saw someone nearby so shot at them. It's all quiet now so I make my way back to meet up... SHOTS FIRED! I panic Fell off the docks in to the sea :P All in all was super fun but I am a long way off being a PvP master thats for sure!
freethink 984 Posted July 16, 2015 man, just play on full servers. So what if you die? It's so much more exciting. Give me a shout next time on steam and we'll do it. I pretty much only play on full servers.
MadMcardle 175 Posted July 17, 2015 I don't think it would be more exciting to die straight away, which is most likely to happen. If I wanted a straight up team death match I would play Call of Duty lol. I prefer to learn the controls and pick my fights, I guess we are just looking for different things from the game.

Just pick your spots and your battles. Also, pvp can happen anywhere on the map, not just Electro, Cherno or Berizino. The CoD kiddies hangout there, the big boys are everywhere else. Last few times I checked you were playing on a servers with less than 10 people, sometimes a lot less. Fair enough if you want to do that but don't try to claim I'm into cod just because I'm willing to be on a 225 sq km map with more than a handful of other players. I bet you have great gear though:D Also, learn what controls? There aren't that many. You have over 200 hours in game, Edited July 17, 2015 by freethink

No need to be so defensive. And I am new to the PC gaming world so using the keyboard and mouse is all new to me, I am also using a laptop so was using a touch pad to start, got a proper one now so have had to swap the controls a bit. wacktopia 57 Posted July 17, 2015 People seem much more careful on full servers, taking sly routes and time to check out towns. On lower pop players seem more willing to risk running down the middle of the road or through open fields. Sometimes I deliberatly choose mid-low pop because I think I'll be more likely to run into someone
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted July 17, 2015 Servers with population 5 or less scare the crap out of me, because somehow I'll run into every single person there. I log into full 49/50 servers and often I see noone. It's the strangest thing!

cash81 506 Posted July 17, 2015 Cheers for the tips guys :)Grimeys dodge/weave tip is bang on. Unless you have a full auto akm with a 75 round mag or a shotgun and are only feet away, its very tough to get a good shot on someone running full tilt while weaving around. The run speed at the moment is still so fast that it makes hitting a moving target a hell of a job.

Reacher (DayZ) 15 Posted July 17, 2015 Gotta say, I like both, full or lowpop server.I have a friend who likes to chill and loot ,when I join him it´s gonna be on lowpop servers. That´s fine but not all the time. And then I joined freethink here and got into all sorts of trouble on full servers. Awesome :D
KiLLeR NatE 1 Posted July 17, 2015 http://dayztv.com/map Try using this map. It's DayZ Chernarus Plus UI: Based on DayDB.com & Improved by DayzTV.com. It's the most accurate. I like med or highpop servers, but sometimes I'll jump in lowpop servers if I'm solo and I'm waiting for my buddy to get on.

I've too many guns on stable atm(I can arm you if needs be.) I'm looking to go out in a blaze of glory before I head back to experimental so give me a shout whenever you fancy it. @Madmcardle - sorry man, I wasn't judging. When I started out I played on low pops too but once you taste high pops you don't want to go back. You may not necessarily see more people but you constantly feel the threat of people being around. Liandri (DayZ) 6 Posted July 18, 2015 (edited) What you describe is what makes PvP in DayZ so exhilerating to me. What the.. I'm shot...my heart goes in to overdrive and I forget the controls... I shoot, I don't even know what at but they stopped shooting at me...I run and jump a fence...shizz I dropped my gun! My hand is actually shaking now and I stupidly go back for my gun! Stress will always be a factor but excitement will gradually come to replace the haunting panic. Practicing PvP is very rewarding, the adrenaline rush you get while aiming down your sights with bullets impacting around you is what makes come back for more. Good luck! IMT 3190 Posted July 20, 2015 I had a taste of all three (low, mid and high pop). To be honest, you learn most things at the high populated ones. I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to die but don't mind dying when I do. At first I was bad at PvP (staying in the same spot after I got fired at, making horrible choices, approaching situations wrong, etc.). But now, I actually start getting the hang of it. Getting better at shooting, flanking, approaching situations, talking, etc. Trust me, in time you will learn. I have almost 500 hours now and my aim is kinda bad. But I know 1 thing, before anybody could see me, I already saw them. I did learn to be careful, spot things what other players wouldn't, etc. Perhaps that is more important than aiming. So in conclusion, just play the game. :)
frosti 2165 Posted July 20, 2015 I did learn to be careful, spot things what other players wouldn't, etc. Perhaps that is more important than aiming. That's the thing about DayZ, you don't have to PvP if you don't want to even on high pop server. I remember playing DayZ mod on 75/75 player server and I never even met other players when I was away from PvP hot spots.
