Pro TIps: -Keep "checking the bait till you get a red response. Then pull.
-Keep a fire ready cause you will get wet.
-Dig up 10 worms before hand and get rid of that space consuming shovel :P
-Takes about 5ish minutes for a fish to take a bait.

It takes less than five minutes I'd guess. Next time I'll time it. Probably closer to 2.

looking at your gear, i would say "living" more than surviving.

if you like it, try some exp while the CLE is at it's early state, the best is after 1 week after a loot wipe. you'll have to fish to actually survive. all you need from loot is a shovel to dig out worms, then you can make a stone knife, cut a ashwood stick, kill an animal with it, use its guts to make a fishing rod, its bones to make an improvised hook with your stone knife and here you go !

use your stone knife to cut out bark, combine it with wooden sticks to make and handrill, use paper and wodden sticks to make a fireplace. cook your fishes with another long stick, enjoing your full belly and survival in dayz ;)

I can do even better:

First you get a stone knife and craft some improvised rope with 2x6 rags.

Now you have two scenarios.

Scenario 1: if you have a fishing hook then cut a long wooden stick from any tree with your stone knife.

Now create a fishing pole and dig up some worms with your stone knife. Next go fishing and cut the fish with the stone knife.

Collect some sticks and 1 oak bark and 1 birch bark or 2 oak bark. Create a hand dril kit with 1 oak bark and wooden stick.

Cut another long wooden stick from any tree to put the fish on. Create a fireplace kit with an oak bark or birch bark and stick. Throw some sticks on it so it can burn (make sure you have enough back-up sticks). Ignite the fire with the hand drill kit. Place the fish on the long wooden stick and pose the stick towards the fire. Once the fish gets yellow it's ready to eat.

Scenario 2: if you don't have a fishing hook then cut a long wooden stick from any tree with your stone knife. Create a bow out of it and make some arrows (chicken feather + sharpened wooden sticks). Kill an animal and gut it with your stone knife. Collect the bones and the guts. Cut one bone in to a fishing hook with your stone knife. Cut another long wooden stick and create a fishing pole with the guts and the stick. Dig up worms with your stone knife. Go fish and cut the fish with your stone knife. Collect some sticks and 1 oak bark and 1 birch bark or 2 oak bark. Create a hand drill kit with 1 oak bark and wooden stick. Cut another long wooden stick from any tree to put the fish on. Place the fish on the long wooden stick and pose the stick towards the fire. Once the fish gets yellow it's ready to eat.

You don't even need to look for a rope, fishing hook or what ever. Straight natural survival. :)

yes, those two new additions are great (rope from rags and dig worms with stone knife). at the time i wrote my post those two actions were not implemented yet. it's now possible to survive with natural resources, i love it !

Which also causes the Stone Knife to be the single most effective item ingame. Stone Knife OP!

Great for survival: true

Great against infected or players: false

But yeah, the stone knife is a great tool at the moment.

I've been using it as a can opener for awhile but recently I've noticed that it's hit or miss in terms of how much product gets spilled. For a short period there I was losing more than half... The last few times it's hardly spilled at all...

Anyone else seeing the same thing- what is it related to? How new it is? How damaged it is? Or is this completely unrelated and random?

this would be a good idea IF:

-animals would spawn on exp

-you would be able to find a shovel

-apples wouldn't be so easy and way faster to get

xD

note: not complaining, of course exp is buggy, just as a warning that animals don't spawn right now (or respawn, saw no cow in ages)

Yeah same thing was happening to me with food spillage a few days back, but now its back to retaining 99% of food again when opening cans.

I've been using it as a can opener for awhile but recently I've noticed that it's hit or miss in terms of how much product gets spilled. For a short period there I was losing more than half... The last few times it's hardly spilled at all...
