I run slow, is it lag, or something else?

Recommended Posts

You won't notice this, whatever your framerate, because your own machine keeps on doing what you started doing, until it gets an instruction back from the server to correct your location. If that happens frequently then overall you'll run slower. You don't notice location correction until it gets so big yo start rubberbanding;

I don't know this - but maybe a senile pc with a low framerate might just be so weak that it's slowing down packet send too?

My friend would notice how slow he was moving too, he didn't rubberband in the conventional sense. He likened it to running in wet concrete. I've always suspected something to do with the way RV streams the map.

No idea if I'm right though, could be a combination like you said.

Framerate was causing my client to be sluggish overall.

With higher more consistent frames client side, I keep up with my friend who has high hardware specs and a faster connection and on servers where we split the difference ping wise.

Just my experience.

Edit:

Maybe something related to playing DayZ on the same connection is causing an issue with desynch or packet lose, Rick.

Not sure about Grimey Rick, that's odd. Possibly his PC is just too Grimey, we all know he how indecent he can be.

I think it's    fear

one of his pc definitely got    the fear

it's kind of combat stress

pcs get it

Thank you all agian for the speedy (lol) and informative feedback.  I guess I'll be waiting on the new renderer and AMD optimization to come along.

edit:  I'm still a bit flabberghasted that I made a post that got Grimey Rick to respond in earnest, had to pinch myself just to make sure it was real.

Your friends have nothing in their hands and you do, your connection to the server is worse than theirs, I've noticed some correlation between frame rate and run speed as well.

If anyone feels like doing science. How about running together in the off map area to the north or west?

I would be willing to give it a try later.  I logged out near Myshkino last night, so if anyone wants to run some heats, I'll probably be on sometime after the sun goes down on the west coast of NA.

When playing with other people, I constantly fall behind.  And yes, I am holding down W and Shift. In just over two minutes of running, I can easily be left back a couple hundred meters.  Is there anyone else who has this problem?  I've tried testing my "naked" running speed with a fully loaded player, but it makes no difference.  Is this related to performance or lag, or  are there some settings that I could have borked that would cause this?

Connection related. Sometimes when my friends router is having a really bad day he always ends up far behind because of desync and lag.

For me, frame rates were always a killer. I tested this on some railroad tracks in the north. When running west, my frames were awesome, and my speed was high. When I turned east(toward Svetlojarsk), my FPS dropped, and my speed dropped a lot as well. This was after they put in Svetlojarsk, which was a huge FPS killer on my laptop. Anytime I faced that city, my FPS dropped by 50-80%. I have reduced my settings over the last year and it has gotten better, and with the tweaks from DayZ engine, I now can handle that city pretty good. One day, I will upgrade my PC, but until then, I stutter/suffer in areas.

Your problem is easy, your GPU is lacking. Get a better GPU (more VRAM) and you will run faster. User testimonial. Hope this helps!

What would you recommend?  I know the GTX 560 wasn't the top of the class when  it was new, but that is the exact card recommended for this game.  With an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T at out of the box 3.3 Ghz, 16 GB ram, I figure the game should eventually run as smoothly as would be expected.  Would another 560 SLI help any at this point?

Get something with 2gig VRAM as a base. Praps a GTX 660 would do.

Stay away from AMD GPU's and CPU's. I'm using AMD GPU atm is it blows. Building a new PC in a few weeks and getting a GTX 980. Hope this helps!

I'll be on the lookout for a GTX 700 series or better, but probably in a month or so.  I've been led away from SLI by Nugget, and think I have a pretty good handle now, on what I should do, now I just gotta save my pennies for a bit.

Thanks for the help.
