therandomredstone 432 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) I'm looking to upgrade a few things on my computer. What is something that is a million times better than the GeForce GTX 645? Edited May 27, 2015 by therandomredstone

DemonGroover 8836 Posted May 26, 2015 Id get the GTX 970....quite a nice price for what you get, the 980 is a bit steep atm.

TheCreeper (DayZ) 3565 Posted May 26, 2015 My GTX 760 does me great, good price too
8bit_Survivor 93 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) I would agree with GTX 970. Great performance for the price and if you purchase one from MSI, EVGA, etc., it wil be overclocked for you. I have a GTX 760 which has done right by me as well but the 970 should remain a viable gpu for much longer.Used HWMonitor recently and found mt GTX 760 was bottle necking a bit while playing DayZ. I have an XPS 8700 Special Edition and I haven't upgraded it at all. It plays most games great! But I'm looking for more powerr. I checked out the GTX 970, I'll probably end up getting it. therandomredstone 432 Posted May 27, 2015 ANOTHER question instead of making a completely new topic. As of now I am planning to get the GTX 970. It will me a tight squeeze into my computer but it should be fine. On the other hand, the recommended watts for the GTX 970 is 500. The total power for the stock Dell power supply with my XPS is 460 watts. I know I'd never end up using 500 watts but I want to be safe. Can anyone point me in the direction of a 500-550 watt power supply that is compatible with my computer?
OrLoK 16185 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) Hello there NEVER scrimp on a PSU. Trust me on this. Also, always have power to spare as everything you plug in top your PC requires power. I like EVGA PSU's really nice IMHO. http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-600W-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B00EN3FD20 I have a semi modular 750 one which does the job. Now, beware some folk get *very* anal about their PSU's but common sense is key. Also, airflow *is* important ifg you want your GFX card *and* your other bits and bobs to funtion well. OrLoK 16185 Posted May 27, 2015 Thank you orlok. I will get a 1000 watt power supply but I want to know if it's compatible with my computer. Will I be able to fit a 1000W i7 Gaming Upgrade Power Supply in my XPS 8700? Hello there Hmmm. You know, im not sure. Dell sometimes follow non standard practices with their cases and mobos. My old dell opened on the "wrong" side and hence couldnt fit a doublethick GFX card as everything was essentially reversed. I dont know this product enough to say for sure. In general, most PC bits are compatable across the (similar board.) My advice, if you're in the UK, is go to the PC Specialist forums as they're great at suggesting/building custom rigs to suit any price level. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ In your position id be looking to get a less expensive PSU and a decent sized case, assuming your Dell Mobo doesnt have any quirks. But tbh most likely the PSU *will* fit, but dont aim too high powerwise IMHO. Lasty do MORE research, dont just trust us! Rgds LoK
therandomredstone 432 Posted May 27, 2015 -snip- Trust me, I do research and read about things before I post with questions. Then I go back to researching and rummaging around before seeing if I had gotten a reply. I will probably get a smaller PSU, and in time get a larger case if I must do so for more upgrades. What would someone like yourself recommend to get the best frames for DayZ?
OrLoK 16185 Posted May 27, 2015 What would someone like yourself recommend to get the best frames for DayZ?Hello there That's a very, very scary question. I'll have to say that I cant recommend any particular stuff rather just generalisations. Arma has always been very CPU heavy, but then again although there's lil bits of Arma in DAYZ it's a very different beast and will continue to alter as time goes on. An SSD is always a nice way to speed up some aspects of a system, so if the pennies allow that might be a nice addition (dont forget every thing you add requires output from that pesky PSU!). As far as Im aware Arma likes to stream lots of large textures and info, so one may well see an improvement in DAYZ. Key word here being *may*. Im not a dev. Just a PC user. What im trying to say is perhaps concentrate on getting a good machine for your own end purposes, be it music/gaming/CAD etc as they all require different aspects. Perhaps go after a general gaming rig, as configuring for what DAYZ is *now* may be a faux pas when one sees what is to come. Rdgs LoK
therandomredstone 432 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) -snip- I can't wait until they start working on Optimization. DayZ will surely get better frames-wise as time goes by. I have my eyes on a XDNA Aurum 24K right now. better sell the car :P Juust kidding. But anyways, thanks for the help! therandomredstone 432 Posted June 7, 2015 I have another question.. So I want to be able to play DayZ at the most frames possible. This is my current setup So if I completely reset my computer to factory defaults with absolutely nothing on it and installed DayZ. Would I get more frames? Thank you.
