anyone know where to get a SKS? been searching BMP's and stuff and found one in a hangar but i lost it...had a pristine PU scope to.

and are the heli crashes just broke? no loot or anything because i cant find any loot at them.

Another spot are the unenterable guard buildings at the entrances to industrial site.  On the steps outside I have been finding the SKS, the AK 74U and the FNX.

Heli crashes are busted, they stay in one place and do not regenerate loot at all.  The crash it self will move away from and around it's original position so what ever loot is left will be close to but not at the wreck itself.  You can see this at police cars too, except police cars appear to be generating loot.

Is amazing how different the experience is for someone who gets on the freshly updated servers and those who arrive the the days after. I was on early. The only thing I'm missing is a scope. I've even thrown food away (a sin!) and haven't picked an apple or berry. But if I died and respawned today, I'd probably struggle to get out of the spawn points and to somewhere with loot left.

I'm not too sure, cause I purposely waited, till the maintenance (this morning for me), to join experimental as a fresh spawn on 3PP to try and survive, and it wasn't as harsh and tough as I thought it would be. Much too easy still.

Spawned in Berezino, and made my way inland, towards the north and Severograd, looting all the small towns and villages around, and this is what I end up getting:

Players still pass by houses they think don't spawn anything.

jsoqp2.jpg

2hhohsn.jpg

In the end the only thing I was looking for was a hunting scope for that Winchester.

Something I've noticed after testing it: Yesterday on 1PP, I logged out near the "blair witch" camp west of Pustoshka, near the feeding shack, and when I logged in again this morning just to see if I still had my character, I noticed that the items in the feeding shack were the same items (2 heat packs, 1 range finder and a pipsi) as the items I saw when I logged out, but this was in 2 different servers.

After this morning's play session on 3PP, I decided to "server hop" to test out if this was just a coincidence, but no. In every server I went, 3PP, the feeding shack I was near had the same items in various damage condition. An RVDS,  a crossbow scope, a brass compass and a heat pack. In 6 servers, there was the same items. I took 1 of the RDS that were pristine, the others were 3 damaged and 2 worn.

Although I don't like server hopping, this is for "science" and I'll have to try it again at another location just to see if this is right.

Now I'm 80% sure the same items spawn in the same locations on "all" of the servers. Even though at first people stated that they liked the way loot was distributed, me included, now it's pretty obvious that it's the most "static" loot distribution I've ever seen, and the most predictable too.  :(

I'm glad I didn't see any loot explosion yet though. I know a few fellas mentioned having coming across some, but I have not.

Really looking forward to a more dynamic and random loot distribution in 0.57 experimental!!

Another place worth the check is the small green barrack at military locations. 2 at the NWAF and 1 in the military base west of Myshkino.

I have found an SKS there almost every single time I checked them. (Only valid in the current experimental.)

internal magazine weapons are just so much easier to handle in terms of ammo and magazines, because you don't have to have magazines.

plus i prefer the SKS if i can outfit it nicely.

I expect that we're probably in the minority, but I'm also a big fan of the SKS.

still cant wait to find a Red Nine. then everything will be perfect :D

the SKS is such a versatile weapons system

if we ever get gun modifying in the game, the SKS will probably be the first, it having a Tapco or Bullpup stock and take 30 round AK magazines would be awesome, and SKS sniping maybe.

It's starting to feel like play-sessions are continuous experiences. I've been manning an open outpost in the store in Gorka (Dayz exp US East 0-2, take what you need leave what you can) and playing every day to check item spawns, and it seems like things are actually spawning with some dependable consistency. I have gotten lucky with a few high calorie spawns, had my only farming implement taken, but I haven't had to stray far to find food sources. It's almost like how it should play! I just wish they would add sleeping bodies for logged out players... oh man...

On an unrelated note anyone know of livestock spawns near the town of Gorka?

Never, ever throw food away. Your body has a maximum of 20.000 kcal. If you find food, don't keep in the in the backpack and don't leave it there. Just eat the food and add it to your buffer. Unless you're stuffed of course, then you need to take the food with you. After you're not stuffed anymore you can eat it.

I always like to keep a can of peaches stashed in my ruck for the lean times, cause there are always lean times.  Left over habit from before gardening, hunting and fishing.

I just wish the servers had more people... Not much player interaction going on for me. Looks like those in the UK got plenty of people though! Higher population density, I guess?

Another fan of the SKS here :) I love the 10 round internal magazine, accuracy is decent, and it's easy to use.

Yep me too. Had to adapt when they removed bullet spawns from non-mil zones. Generally just rocked a repeater/mosin until I got to a base then swapped out. SKS was my first love in this game. I wouldn't care if they removed all the automatic weapons.

same here, i think it would make the game much more interesting. Less PvP and less mowing down players and zombies.

and non automatic weapons dont appeal to some people that like FPS's.

I am hoping we see an experimental update before the weekend!

It would be fun to have a new build to test/fresh spawn to gear.

*Off-topic anecdote

I just watched a mediocre Sci-Fi attempt called "Parallels".

Within a 5 minute span, someone got shot for drawing first, someone said, "stay hidden, stay quiet, and stay alive" (paraphrase) while opening a can of peaches, and then a guy shows a gun that changes barrel sizes to accommodate all types of ammo.

I.... I had to post that here.

and (non-crafted) silencers should be almost non-existent imo. Hopefully they will be.

Holy crap, what?

That's actually really, really interesting. I've not seen that anywhere, changing between servers due to restarts, lag, or just taking breaks. As such, I'm assuming that it'll only be the case for areas that haven't been looted. Maybe the initial spawns are the same (like, on initialization the CLE control generates a seed that it throws out to all of the servers for the starting loot), or maybe it goes through a list (one that's created by the loot spawning algorithm). Definitely needs more testing, though I'm not sure how we could possibly manage that without private servers.

Please devs, comment on this!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'm almost certain I've got it right there. Server initialization after a persistence wipe, all of the servers have to spawn in new loot. The CLE generates a list of loot and its locations and just spawns the same one in for each server. When loot is picked up, it spawns the next item in in a random location, making the loot on the servers the exact same at initialization, but slowly become very distinct over time (or, more likely, very, very quickly). Places that aren't looted, however, look the same. Some might have an extra piece of loot or two if chance happens to spawn an item in there, but yeah. That's my guess, making initialization far faster as each server does not need to generate a list of literally tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of pieces of loot to spawn. It just needs to follow a basic set of instructions, then take over from there.

Did it? I'm being serious here.

I only get the prompts if I crawl under the cabin and scroll. Honestly.

I'll not be held liable for any deaths, though... And I'll be a bit more wary in the future.  :D

So this is really interesting. I tend to server hop to avoid night-time during the real-time day because glare really makes night play difficult unless it really is night where I am. Yesterday afternoon when I did so next to some tool sheds, the tool sheds on the different servers did not have the same items. It seems unlikely you'd have such a crazy coincidence as you experienced though. Perhaps it's respawns which are similar across servers and the items I found were "original"?

I don't understand this. If you're literally just standing still picking apples, it takes like 10 minutes to become cold. That's more than enough time to pick enough apples to get you to neutral. If you're starving, it's because you're overexerting yourself without consuming enough first. If you die while picking apples, then you must have been starving before you started picking because otherwise you're not burning enough calories to offset the speed at which you can pick and consume apples. The chance rate for apples sucks and yes it can take time, but when it's your only option you just have to be patient and work with it. Get yourself to at least neutral before you take off running anywhere and you should be fine. What you can't do is wait until you're already on the brink of death and start picking; that's too late to do any good.

Unfortunately, not starving when I pick apples is not a choice, as I cannot find any other food and by the time I reach any apple tree, I am at the point of either being Starving or Hungry. Which is why I posted my original question; Of how to acquire food, as there is none around.

I truly have no idea how I am supposed to test a Experimental version, report bugs and so forth, when all I can do is run around and die within an hour of spawning.

I don't tend to server hop, either. Back when 0.55 was rolled out to stable, I was having a terrible time finding loot, so I hopped around a bit. What I found was just as you described it. 80-90% of the loot was the same, with just minor variation from server to server.

It could be that with the CLE, each server gets the same default loot config at the very beginning and then each server drifts from that starting config as the server gets traffic.

On a 3 pp server I went into a shed in Msta and found a can of black spray paint and a can of green spray paint.  Later, I was in Msta on a 1pp server and guess what?  Yep, the same shack had the same paint cans in the same place.  Looks like this flows for all the servers regardless of 1pp or 3pp status.

Thanks! That was really shady to me, cause I have died trying to ccrawl under a truck in previous patches. It did work though. Didn't even have to crawl all the way under.
