HarryPotter (DayZ) 172 Posted May 5, 2015 Hi Just a quick one. Today I died setting up a landmine... I re-spawned quite close and sprinted to where I died but there was nothing there, nothing, no body, no gear? I was no longer than 5 mins getting back. I also had just killed a guy and took his food, his body was also gone along with all his stuff? I spawned in just outside Berezino and had died at the police station in Ropka so at full sprint its not very far? Any idea whats going on. I thought dead bodies were persistent until server restarts and dropped gear even longer? Also had a few things vanish after dropping them lately. Sorry if this has been discussed already
Red_Ensign 990 Posted May 5, 2015 you despawn after a short time I think. also, whoever set the landmine may have looted and hid your body.
IReadTheAgreement 313 Posted May 5, 2015 You should not be able to get gear off of your old dead body. I hope this was implemented.

They should deal with re-gearing off your dead body by making you spawn miles away from where you died...

I think the gear would be all over the ground if he pulled it all off you, which some people do. if he just took only what he wanted without scattering it and then just hid you, I'm pretty sure there'd be no trace of you. agreed, you shouldn't be able to loot your own body. personally I think dying should despawn that character's tents and all his possessions (but not until glitch deaths are fixed). I killed a guy moments before I blew myself up and his body was also gone along with any trace of his stuff.. How long does stuff like bodies and dropped gear hang around. Does the server make a distinction between the pack on a dead man's back and a one dropped and hidden in a bush... I regularly drop stuff off before I hit up NWAF and come back for it and its always there... 30 mins at least
HarryPotter (DayZ) 172 Posted May 5, 2015 Bodies despawn fairly quick - they are not persistent Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose servers would crash if they had to store all the info on dead bodies...

Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 5, 2015 Land mines are pretty loud - I'd wager someone came along and looted you, then clicked on your corpse and chose the option to hide it like Red_Ensign said.

Happened twice now....
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 5, 2015 Yeah maybe... how the F''@K do you set them up without blowing yourself up. Happened twice now....I've only done one, but I was successful... you have to set it and back away immediately. I think you get like 3 seconds.

thewire 88 Posted May 5, 2015 you despawn after a short time I think. also, whoever set the landmine may have looted and hid your body.he died from trying to setup a landmine. those thing is tricky. i recently die from setting one up, taking me and my buddy nearby lol
thewire 88 Posted May 5, 2015 I have 2 pristine ones you can practice on. stow your clothes and gear first though.Don't you set it up then have to activate it first? or just set it up?
Killawife 599 Posted May 6, 2015 If someone find your body and hides it it doesn't dissapear, its just unaccessable for everyone. Its a silly thing to do. As for landmines, sometimes they blow, sometimes they don't, it doesn't seem to matter that they are pristine. Its a Dayz thing
ASTINvlogs 44 Posted May 6, 2015 I think the gear and the body should stay in place. I mean if you can respawn as a new person ( isn't that the point. Your person your story ) then make it back to wherever someone killed you or you killed yourself in this case before someone else gets lucky then good on you IMO
emuthreat 2837 Posted May 6, 2015 I can't be the only one who takes off all of my gear before doing this kind of risky stuff...Persistence is forced, and it takes no time to find a shirt and canvas pants. Just carry a burlap sack, rope, and an axe to make a bag for your clothes and extra gear. Set down your backpack and any non-essential gear, then put any (emptied) vests or extra clothes in the improvised pack, and there is practically no consequence aside from the long run back to your gear--which might take a couple days, if you play LEGIT; no suicide spawrnin' and such... @ ASTIN: I'd be okay with dead bodies staying for ONE day. Maybe it is breaking the fourth wall a bit, but at least giving the world of players time to scavenge it if one can't make it back in time, and all the better if they do manage to make it.
