Mizzou60 81 Posted April 25, 2015 I see there are servers that say “private Shard” in the title. I joined one and my character appeared in a t-shirt on Noobie Coast. I immediately exited out and joined a public server and had all my gear back. I did a small amount of research on the subject and it seems that you can have an entirely different character on a private shard that is not related to your public character. I wanted to see if this is true and does anyone else play with multiple characters on different shards? I have another issue where every time I log-in to a server my character takes some kind of damage. There is an audible voice of pain and a quick flash of red on the screen. I don’t suffer any other damage and it doesn’t happen again (like if you were sick it would continue in increments) until the next time I log-in. It happens every time no matter what server I’m on. Although it’s non-fatal, it is very irritating. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know how to fix it?
LoveAffair 329 Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) That happened to me a few times, like i got my arm fractured , but the fracture icon does not show up. I used a splint even though it said i didn't need to and it stopped. And on your first question , i play on about 6 different private servers , I gave up on public. I get to depressed with the game when everyone i see is holding 2 Ak's and kicking ammo boxes down the street. Please bring back the one and only BEAUTY of that .55 loot :) Edited April 25, 2015 by LoveAffair

Please bring back the one and only BEAUTY of that .55 loot :) Thanks for the quick response. I tried the splint trick and it worked great. I logged into five or six servers to check it out and had no issues with red flashes. Thanks. So if I use a private shard server I will not lose any of my public characters equipment? Sorry for beating this dead horse but I just want to be sure before risking all my hard earned gear.
stinkenheim 249 Posted April 25, 2015 Private shards store character information differently to Public Shard servers so you can rock as many characters as you can find private servers and none of them will delete a public shard character.I currently have about 3 privates that I regularly play on as well as 3PP and 1PP public characters

Red_Ensign 990 Posted April 25, 2015 What is the point of public hive? variety. you don't always run into the same people. and there's actual danger beyond game bugs.
HarryPotter (DayZ) 172 Posted April 25, 2015 variety. you don't always run into the same people. and there's actual danger beyond game bugs.Yeah I suppose... I normally play 4 or 5 different privates for the variety I do have a public character but I rarely use it. Still get in plenty of trouble on privates but meet cooler people (imo)

odin_lowe 3686 Posted April 26, 2015 What is the point of public hive?"Play for free." Technically, the public hive is "rented" by the company/devs and have certain rules, like the fact that you can't password them or whitelist them, unless there's admin abuse from the individual who rent a public hive server. People have been able to rent public hive servers for a while, but they are open to everyone, as for the private servers are not connected to the public hives, and can be locked/passworded/whitelisted by those who rent the server. A lot of private servers are open so that more players come to the server. Some are whitelisted and have a community that creates certain "play environment" within the server, making it more role-play oriented. There's no server hoppers in private servers. Personally I think there should never have been the option to rent public hive servers. It only caused admin abuse and mischief... The public hive is great for casual players who want pvp action. It lets them find a server with a good population in the area they're in. It's the playground of hackers and abusers, beware. Since the private hives have been enabled, I've stayed clear of the public hive most of the time. It's been either experimental, or private servers, and on a few occasions the public servers.
odin_lowe 3686 Posted April 26, 2015 Yes, it's true, and the dumbest addition to the game in my opinion. It's what saved DayZ for me during a certain period where every server was plagued by hackers. The private server brought legit pvp fights, closed environment events with great interactions, role-play encounters as interesting, refreshing and funny I could ever wish to experience. But that's just my opinion too, based on personal experiences. ;)
renpab80@gmail.com 41 Posted April 26, 2015 i would have stopped playing if only public hives where available. I only play on 1st person/private servers: it just delievers the most immersive experience for me. No server hopping, you need to adapt to the loot situation, traveling is a must. For my taste, it makes the game a bit harder and less casual in comparison to 3rd person public servers.

Event held today: http://oldschooldayz.net/index.php/topic,1022.0.html Bartertown Why would this be called role-playing and why isn't it on a private shard? I input the IP address and it comes up on a public hive. I was kinda curious about what role-playing goes on in private shards? When I think of role-playing I think of a bunch of guys pretending to be wizards n shit fighting dragons. Is any event where people get together considered role-playing? Like Survivor GameZ ? Weyland Yutani (DayZ) 1159 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) When I think of role-playing I think of a bunch of guys pretending to be wizards n shit fighting dragons.DayZ is a role-play game. It is a simulation right, so you should really be playing YOU. If you're doing it any other way, you're really selling yourself short. Once you get bored of that, try stepping into another role...any role. Get creative and trust me...its super fun.
