The pitchfork, the ultimate weapon for the zombie apocalypse enthusiast

This had me laughing hard... I assume you mean punching? Fisting zombies would be... twisted.

same that was an epic twist of words!

Any indication as to why not? Easy to make, easy to use, effective. Plus, it makes more "sense" than to have a bow that-totally-wouldn't-work in real life......

Just...weighing in.

^ seconded. spears in there most basic form are one step above smacking things with a stick (hey lets sharpen the stick and thrust/throw it at them!)

Word of caution if you have that kind of play style hitting limbs of zeds that clip through objects example: a door.May tend to cause the zeds to migrate/clip inside the building/through the door, My suggestion is to choose your kills precisely and wisely and try to be ambient or one with the environment and strike or bait when necessary. If you hit them right they stagger giving you the upper advantage to strike repetitively(Like i said sledgehammer preferred choice). That way your gear is not destroyed.

Also has anyone noticed what the leather kits are doing? Its turning gear from damaged to pristine....This strikes me as odd how can something damaged be repaired to new condition. I preferred the old way better where it brings it to worn; this way is more authentic in my opinion.

You don't even need the sewing kits.  I've had my clothes and hat regenerate just from running before.  If I don't get damaged for a couple hours, my plate carrier seems to regenerate as well.  Footwear seems to be wearing more quickly though.  Next time you see a leather kit, try seeing if it just works sitting in a pack for a bit.

Really your boots/shoes have been wearing out more quickly? For some reason I haven't had to repair them once and the have remained pristine, which i figured was a glitch. Which this is my second character since the update my first one i had the shoes wore out not quite sure why this is.

There's something funny going on with item conditions, and I haven't been able to properly test it yet. All I know is that in my travels this pst week, everything but footwear seems to be able to self-repair back to pristine condition.

Anybody have any experience on melee weapons going back to pristine condition?  With the zombies in their current state, I can just stand my ground and go toe to toe with them.  No worries about item damage at all, but often the first hit will cause bleeding.

Also @OP: Does the window have to be fully broken out, or will just  the glass gone do the trick?  I haven't been able to get hits unless zed be clippin through the wall, and it's usually safer to just headshot them with a pistol still.

I had a pristine Riders vest when I logged out, and a badly damaged one when I logged back in.

Urge to kill... rising...

Pitchfork??? That weapon sucks..... You gotta go for some brass knuckles they kill zombies efficiantly and players. After a long night of being a bandit I knocked a total of 7 people w brass knuckles before I switched to a mosin then an mp5.

Read the post again, you'll understand why the pitchfork is a hugely useful weapon these days. Easy to find, needs no ammo, can be used to face-stab zombies from the safety of a window.

still I don't like it.... brass knuckles are all around pitchfork you hide in a house and hit them in the head its almost impossible to kill multiple zombies outside of a house. Though the window thing I do just not with a pitchfork I use a bayonet or an ashwood stick few slots in backpack and can be put on a mosin, sks, m4 and ak(though I really don't use m4 and ak cause they can't reach very well).

Impossible? They all line up right in front of the window to get stabbed. And pitchfork? No slots in backpack!

I don't think I worded it correctly hiding in a house and killing zombies from a window is effective but if your being swarmed by them and there going faster than you or you near buildings without windows or building that have unopenable doors your in for some trouble and I like having an Axe as my main melee weapon cause it cuts up players and trees. Brass knuckles are good at killing just not doing the window thing.

Unless you run around like a brainless moron, there's no way you'd get swarmed that easily. And if they do come after you in numbers, just give them the runaround until they're separated. Play it smart, and you survive.

Sorry, I know it's not a hand to hand weapon but it's ages since I had an SKS. Even with a broken scope x2 perfect headshots to clear that lovely loot spot police car. I gave them Mercy.

I love the SKS.

You can have my SKS, I've been carrying it for a few days and can't find ammo for it!

well after some of your words I gave the pitchfork another try after the disaster I had in early .55. I killed a good amout of zombies but it wasn't very effective against players I died from one using a pitchfork I think it should be buffed now its a big fork a big sharp fork its gonna kill you very easy. Though after I spawned I picked up some brass knuckles and found this guy he had tons of loot on him but a bad gun sporter yet I went and owned him with the knuckles. After that it was some good times killing zombies with knuckles and players. If I'm desperate for killing zombies quickly I might go with a pitchfork other wise I'm still going to bayonets.

ashwood stick. has range, fan be turned into a fishing rod or bow at short notice, maybe eventually, you could the hunting knife or bone to it to turn it into a spear.

Yeah ammo is certainly hard to come by at the mo.

Really? I've just been to Zelenogorsk Miltary Base and passed about 20 rounds for SKS. I have an M4 and having some problem finding ammo for it now, even though I found 100 bullets for it in Balota alone, right after the patch. It seems the ammo isn't respawning as intended.

What I noticed is that if you shoot zombies from inside houses other infected ones don't get aggroed when nearby. So I usually try to set myself up somewhere upstairs in a house and clear a path, first. Though currently it seems like there are fewer zombies on the streets than a few weeks ago. Melee is a bad way to tackle zombies. Too much damage to clothes and unforeseeable consequences. I prefer to keep them away from me. The perfect zombie killer is probably the MP5, because it is/(will be again) comparably easy to come buy and find ammo + silencer. However, I really like the pistols to do the job. Less inventory space. And if I have to melee I also use the brass knuckles. They get damaged a bit too fast, but they are easy to find and small in inventory.

I think generally one handed weapons are advantageous at the moment, simply because you can hit faster than with a two-handed weapon and apparently deal similar damage.

You are correct imo, this kind of thing changes once the melee combat is no longer based on spamming. While that doesn't happen, you should go for high DPS weapons because its the only thing that really matters. Its sad because we have a lot of melee weapons, but that are good for nothing and you should only use them if you don't have anything better. Which is kind of different with firearms right...

You see, we need better melee even for b0lonce reasons, and to make sure devs hasn't wasted their time adding a lot of things that will have no practical use other then roleplay.

Lol, this thread topic just reminded me of a moment a couple weeks ago... I was holding down the bottom staircase of the hospital in Elektro, my fresh spawn buddy had just gotten to me, and all he had was a pitchfork... and all of a sudden someone spawned in next to us, wearing a complete paramedic outfit. My buddy instantly starts skewering him with a pitchfork as he's screaming "STOP I'M A PARAMEDIC!!!!"

I haven't laughed harder in-game since then lol

I guess it depends what server you are on. My private persistent toon has a blaze and around 20 rounds of ammo. My public persistent off toon has an sks and around 100 rounds+

actually an ashwood stick works way better through windows than a pitchfork does.
