ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 12, 2015 Correct me (please!) if I'm wrong, but we are on version .55, correct? A lot of stuff on the DayZ Wiki references version .54, so I'm unsure about the accuracy of some of the information. According to this: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Steyr_AUG_Automatic_Rifle, the AUG can only accept a NATO suppressor but it says "as of version .54". Does anyone know if this changed in .55? Mookie (original) 799 Posted March 12, 2015 Stable branch remains on 0.54. Experimental updated to 0.55 yesterday. If the motive for your question is whether the AUG will ever accept the Eastern suppressor, the answer is almost certainly no, because it's a NATO rifle. As far as I can make out, NATO suppressors are not currently spawning in 0.54.

ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 12, 2015 Ok, so I was wrong. Thanks for clearing that up guys. I was asking because I wanted to know if I could maybe put a different sight on my new AUG. The default one is fine. I was just curious.

The default one is fine. I was just curious. I think the view is that the AUG will eventually became much more modular (so much more like the M4), potentially with a heavier barrel option (for LMG use), sights, etc. However, that's probably a hell of a long way off... Have to say that I'd only bother picking up an AUG in its current state if I had nothing else. IME, the M4 is way better, if you can find ACOG, MP parts, etc.
ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 12, 2015 Well, I have not seen the M4 yet at all. The only mod for it I've seen is a carry handle. I'm about to head out on Day 4 of my DayZ experience. I just got lucky yesterday and stumbled across a crashed heli. I got an AUG with a 40rnd mag, a Skull Balaclava, and an M65 Field Jacket. Plus, a touch of ammo. Re-Patch 47 Posted March 12, 2015 The M4 is almost impossible to find if you play 100% legit (not hopping, no hacks etc.). If you want an M4, choose a high pop PvP server (50/50 if possible, 40/40 works as well), go to Elektro and learn how to win against heavily armed players by being smarter (needs luck as well of course), and it won't take you longer than 1-2 hours to walk out of the city with an M4 and heavy gear (watch not to be too happy if you succeed the first time, you will get shot on your way out I guarantee it) :P cheers, have fun

This is the first one I've seen since .53 so you aren't alone, also found a SMERSH vest and the m65 field jacket. Gave the m4 and the jacket to a buddy who has a hard on for the m4 and kept the SMERSH vest

It takes the same cartridges, has a shorter barrel, is much longer even with the shorter barrel, more recoil, the only better thing about it is that it has more accessories... Throw a rail on the AUG and you've got the same thing, only more compact with full size ballistics, easier to clean, less recoil, no gas in the face, quicker barrel swaps... The only real disadvantage is you're screwed if you're a lefty lol. When it comes to dayz though, the only difference is how compact the weapons are and accessories available... that's about it tbh

I'm in for the intended experience, not the one that I'd like to have for myself. When I was 7 or 8 I got into playing Age of Empires and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. I learned about the resource cheats you could put in to get as many resources as you needed to do whatever you wanted. As a result, I never got good at the games. I would play offline and cheat my way through it. I realized that I had crippled my experience by using those cheats and so I learned that it ruins games. I saw further evidence that confirmed my thoughts on this when I played Borderlands and Dungeon Defenders. I had a friend who was given a god-mode shotgun in BL1 that did some insane amount of impossible damage. I asked him not to use it when we played together because it depreciated the value of more powerful gear when we found it and made the game trivial to play and therefore boring. DF online games were rife with hacked weapons that had the same effect. No good comes from hacks or cheats in my opinion. I also have no intention of searching out other players to kill, tempting though that may be to some. If someone is clearly trying to do me harm, then self defense is the only option. Actively seeking altercations is just not my style. I just got killed on Day 4 of my character by a guy who camped waiting for me to come out of a building at NWAF. It sucks to die after having learned and gained so much. I have no wish to inflict that on another player. Unless, of course, I run across the guy who just killed me. He's fucked if I ever find him. :) Edited March 12, 2015 by ColdAtrophy
yazar8 584 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) Day 4 of my DayZ experience Wait what, you're playing this game for 4 days? The M4 is almost impossible to find if you play 100% legit (not hopping, no hacks etc.). Impossible? We have came across with 7 M4s the last two weeks, there are 5-6 servers we play, we do full runs on each, by the time we finish it, the other servers restart, so we switch servers when we are done, yet that, I call it "switch" because we stay on a server for 30-45 minutes. It's pretty easy to find an M4 without hopping and hacking. It's all about dedication, you must dedicate yourself to do it. Have you ever tried that? ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 12, 2015 Wait what, you're playing this game for 4 days? I mean that I started this character on Monday. I called that Day 1. Today is Thursday. I was killed today. I played for a good 4 or 5 hours each day. Today I got about an hour or so in and was murdered needlessly.

I've walked the chopper routes more often that some people have hours played on the game, so please :) I was very busy lately and I haven't played too often since .53/54 though and thus haven't checked more than 2-3 choppers. I was talking about every patch before .53 (I wasn't sure if they changed anything) but apparently they did, didn't know that sorry. Those "accessories" make a real difference to the M4 in the game. Magpul stock and h/guard gives lower dispersion (ie more accuracy). ACOG, while not yet modelled accurately, at least gives some medium range capability. The CQB stock, on the other hand, offers better dexterity for short range, etc, etc. The numbers for how these effects are modelled in game are all out there somewhere, and they're significant. I'm talking about the guns in the game, where "gas in the face", barrel swaps, etc aren't really a factor... The AUG may be more accurate IRL, or with a different scope. But the scope it has in the game right now is pretty bad. I'd rather have an RV1 for example. But hey, if you don't like it that's your choice. I do... Deathlove 2286 Posted March 12, 2015 I haven't been even able to find an AUG yet but i hear it can take the same magazines the M4A1 can which really makes me want to try it even more. In the mean time though found one of those M8 jackets or whatever and thats made me a happy camper thus far.

ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 12, 2015 You were re-born B) And with a taste for vengeance. I got that glitch that spawns you with no items of any kind, not pants or shoes even. The important part is that I spawned just outside of Vybor. I got some of my stuff back at the area with the tents. He was wearing my skull balaclava! The fucking nerve. :)
