DayZ Going to Become MMO At Some Point?

Recommended Posts

Good morning guys,

Is this confirmed as truth or is this some new hot rumor going around?
I've read on an other gaming site that DayZ standalone will become

reformatted and done all over again and placing into the MMO genre

category, if this is true this just might be one great idea, and i don't
know how the standalone works but, would be nice to still have your
weapons and other items, when you log back on instead of just playing
it, and not building up a character. But hey i could be wrong now,
as i stated before i do not own the standalone version of this game..

What defines the MMO genre and why is DayZ not that yet?

Can you elaborate on that?

Also:

it, and not building up a character.

What do you mean by that? Your character is persistent, meaning that you can play for three minutes, run around and pick up a single tin of beans and when you log out and days later log back in you are still in the very same place with your tin of beans.

it already is an MMO.  are you trying to say f2p or p2w or some such?  not going to happen.

If you are comparing the number of players to say Eve online or wow then DayZ and its map will never support 1000s of players on the one server.

It wouldn't be much of a zombie apocalypse if players outnumbered zeds 10:1.

And yes I do realise zed numbers are low atm.

I'm sorry, forgot to mentioning the leveling up system, i thought that the DayZ standalone
was going to have some kind of RPG elements, hmmm man that would be cool if DayZ
had features like that, so i just thought that maybe the game was going to turn into this.

Again sorry about the mixup..

You are aware of the differences between MMO / RPG / MMORPG?

MMO just means Massive Multiplayer Online [...]

The RPG - Role Play Game - makes the leveling system. DayZ is an MMOG, but not an RPG.

it already is an MMO.

How?

50 players per server doesn't qualify as an MMO. Just because you can take your character over to other servers doesn't mean that its an MMO either. Is Battlefield a MMO as well?

Yeah, Dayz is definitely Multiplayer Online... But I wouldn't go as far as to call it Massive.25-50 man servers, massive?  I think not.

I cant imagine anything that would make this game worse than a levelling up system.... just not my thing at all. They RUINED RO by putting in a levelling up system in the 2nd instalment!! Its just utter bollocks. You should get better at stuff because you get better at it not because you reach a new level... (imo)

I think 100 players on a sever would be good some day though....

Indeed. Unless they did something super crazy like having each server be a different map and reaching the edge of the map would simply change instance (thus allowing thousands of players to freely move around and randomly encounter one another) i wouldn't call dayZ an 'MMO'. persistent multi-player yes, but nothing massive about it.

as far as character leveling- some kind of passive leveling was discussed some time ago but no details about any potential implementation have been confirmed anywhere as far as i know.

MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online. I don't think DayZ fits the "Massively" part, so I guess it is not exactly an MMO.

DayZ is an MMOG, but not an RPG.

When I think MMO I think of a game with at least 250+ players a server...

... DayZ with 250+ players per server... someone please make that happen.
