FPS increase by?

Recommended Posts

What do you think the FPS will be increased by when the game is in Beta

And after it is (touched up)

Sorry i forgot what the term is called, right when i was writing this post

What's that term called? This game is very ____ and it wont be ____ until most content is released.

To me i think it would go up at least 10-15 FPS

The 15 FPS in cities are really bad

Un-optimized maybe? Honestly I think the arma engines have been gimp since the get go, but the way they are open to mods makes them bearable. Since this engine is a mash of different stuff, I hope it will perform as intended.

I have heard that the first implementation of the renderer will give a 30-40% increase in frames.

I have heard that the first implementation of the renderer will give a 30-40% increase in frames.

That means if you have 10 fps folks, after first implementation you will have 13 or 14 fps.

Give me a moment to curb my enthusiasm right there :D

Anyhow, I expect a steady 60 fps in the cities once we go beta.

I have great expectations for our fps when full release comes, and im sure beta will be solid just not 100% optimized ... Honestly the engine is already more reliable than the arma 2 mods, and certainly has less lag spikes (on certain dayz patches ) than it's mod predecessors , I remember playing dayz epidemic and having constant fps stutters because the engine was based off of scripts (like all arma/dayz mods) and dayz standalone engine isn't , that alone gives me high hopes .

I am always a little shocked when I go from Arma 3 Epoch to Dayz.  The FPS is so much better in Arma 3, even with graphics cranked up.   Hopefully the optimization will come soon and make a large improvement, I have certain areas I just try and avoid because I know they are an FPS hell hole...

I am actually encouraged.

The game engine makes little, or no use of the processing power of the GPU and merely uses it to display pretty pictures. The CPU is doing all of the heavy lifting and has become a botteneck. The GPU, by and large, is simply along from the ride. Making use of the GPU not only for video functions, but for general computational functions (think Bitcoin mining) is a common and well understood use case within the industry.

The fact that the devs have begun the process to modularize the engine, so that individual modules, such as the renderer, can be independently updated and replaced as necessary, encourages me that they are persuing an actual solution, rather than grasping for Band-Aids. No one in their right mind would embark on such a project, unless they were very serious about fixing things. Making effective use of the hardware on hand (GPUs), implementing more effective culling, and reducing the load on the CPU are going to make a significant improvement in FPS. And, in it's newly modular state, the engine becomes a tool that is easily updated for BI's future needs.

If the devs did not believe that they were bringing the engine up to 2015 standards of functionality, they would never have made the commitment to port DayZ to console, where the CPUs have a fraction of the power of the average desktop. Remember, the full resources of BI are behind this engine update, because they wish to use it for future projects (ARMA4?). If they don't get this right, BI is going to become irrelevant. There is a lot riding on this engine.

Now, just give me a moment to dive back into my foxhole, before you reach for your slings and arrows.

@BleedoutBill

Forgive me, I'm new here, but I just noticed this yesterday while playing. My GPU doesn't seem to be doing much. I think I once saw it go to 30% usage but I could be wrong. It largely sat around 20%. My CPU cores are being utilized more at around 60%. I'm glad to see from your post that this is simply the way the engine/build currently is. I had started poking around the internet just to make sure this was not the result of some user error on my end. I couldn't find anything other than a few FPS tweaks that didn't seem to do anything but lower my draw distance and make pop-in worse without any real noticeable effect on FPS.

I have a GTX 970 and it just sits there, largely unused. This makes me hopeful for the renderer updates. I'm looking forward to 60 FPS in cities rather than the 30's I get now, briefly and occasionally dropping as low as 20.

Another thread about "supposed" FPS increase, there is a search function FYI

If you don't have proof or any sort of evidence

your words are just leaves blown away by the wind

Have you ever heard of a game called Arma 3? Everyone said in Alpha that it would be optimized in Beta, yet nothing ever happened and the engine flaws were pushed under the rug. It uses practically the same engine with an updated renderer, hence why they can copy paste stuff between the two games.

Nope never played Arma 3

Wasn't really committed to play open world shooters that is like 60$

But (excuse my ignorance) isn't DayZ using a old and rusty engine, and they are adding bunch of updates to it?

So it basically means if the engine is updated the other stuff will be polished as well

I just wan't good fps pls

Another misconception, ignore.

New engine being worked on.

It's not a misconception. They both started from the same base engine. In fact DayZ standalone has taken many features from Arma 3 itself. DayZ still has remnants of 'Arma 3' in it's source code. So please learn something instead of deleting messages and jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else.
