Dead Body

Recommended Posts

The devs have already said something about allowing server owners the option to lock people out of their server for a set period (up to 12 hours, I believe) after they die. Personally, I think this should be mandatory on all servers - for at least 12 hours, if not 24.

That way, when you respawn you would either have to wait until the next day to carry on playing the same server, or else switch to a different one if you want to keep playing there and then. New life, new server, new player and loot locations - it makes much more sense to me. You wouldn't be able to retrieve your corpse or gear and you wouldn't be able to rejoin a gunfight from which you'd already been eliminated. If your group wanted to keep playing with you, they'd have to switch to your new server as well, so it'd perhaps also make such groups a little less eager to start shooting, due to the increased risk and cost of losing members or being forced to abandon an area they'd been working on (barricading and camp building and such).

The only problem would be for those players who actually rent servers - you couldn't really expect them to be locked out of their own place. But perhaps an exception could be made for them.

I wouldn't be apposed to 5 characters listed for public. This would allow you to gear up all 5 and start with another character if you die. a 1 hr lockout for the death toon.

Private would be wide open to 1 character per server, with 0 locked out.

I also think that newly created spawn points are in order. This would semi stop some of the grieving going on with newbies.

As for looting items off of your body you could say

Salvaging is important in this game. To take that away, it would diminish the game entirely from a survival game to an arcade type game.

That sounds like a horrible idea. What if im playing with my friends and get sniped or bugged out death. I now have to wait 12-24 hours to play with them again?? I paid 40 bucks for a game that would make me wait a day to play it because of some stupid glitch? Or im a new spawn that happens to spawn next to a zombie and i die... yay another 24 hour wait. Yes i can switch servers but then all my friends would have to switch as well and start a new char because i died.

Terrible idea.

I don't know. A 20 - 30 minute wait wouldn't be so bad. I'd actually quite like that since killing the same player over and over again as they try to get their gear is probably pretty common. Up to an hour I could just get along with but 12 - 24 hours? Not a chance. However, I can see that being a thing on big RP servers, but I doubt that sort of thing would become the norm.

Personally I don't see what the big deal is.  Unless you die near a spawn point, it can take 30 minutes or longer to run back to your body.  And that's even assuming you can find it.

i wish bodies stayed untill server restart. make the loot dissapear after n-minutes if thats the prob., or just a common dead body type object that replaces our character.

Just wanna see more survivor bodies, this is not at all about running back.

Fairly recently, I died (I think from a glitch) and then respawned just a couple of towns to the east of where I died; there was a V3S there, so I grabbed it and hauled ass back to where I died to see if I could get my gear back. I managed to find my corpse, but I could not interact with it. I think it had been maybe 10 minutes between my death and finding my body. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

That being said, I think I understand the reason for it, but I agree that it would be nice to be able to find random player corpses that are lootable as you wander the countryside. I also thought about having dead players turn into zombies, as others have mentioned, but then I'm still not sure if the zombies in game are actually reanimated corpses, a la The Walking Dead, or simply infected people that technically are still alive, a la 28 Days Later and Left 4 Dead. If it's the former, then it could make sense; if it's the latter, as some have suggested, then perhaps not. However, regardless of this, it would be nice to be able to loot zombie corpses, since you technically already can, there just isn't anything on them. This would add to the realism of the game, as someone without anything might be willing to strip a dead zombie for warmer clothing, etc. I think the same would make sense for player corpses; I think there would be less worry about people using dead players to "gear up" also, for two reasons: A.) people do that already, and that in itself is realistic already; and B.) depending on how the person died, at least some of their stuff is likely to be ruined anyways, meaning that, not only is there less of a chance of someone finding usable gear, but there's also more of a chance of someone deciding not to murder someone solely to take their stuff, as they may risk ruining it and making their death pointless. Instead, they would likely take the person captive, a la established banditry, and simply take their stuff while they are still alive. After that, whether or not they decide to let you live is entirely up to them. ;)

As for intentionally hiding corpses, I agree that it doesn't make much sense for the corpse to simply phase into the ground and disappear; I think that a better (and more realistic) idea would be to have to dig a grave before you can hide a body underground. Since we have shovels, trenching tools and pickaxes, and we can currently create garden plots, it shouldn't be too hard to set up a hole-digging function; you could even possibly set it up so that you can dig down to different depths, so as to create shallow graves (if you prefer). Not only would it be more realistic, but it would add depth to the game in the form of player-made cemeteries, loot stashes, and maybe even mass graves. Besides, anybody that has played Fallout knows how much fun it can be to dig up graves. :) Beyond that, if there were closets or other small spaces that we could drag bodies to and hide them in, a la Hitman, that would be even more fun. How neat would it be to open a door and see a body fall out suddenly? Of course, that would likely necessitate some sort of interactive ragdoll physics, which I'm not sure if they have in the game yet or not.

I think there is a fairly easy solution for this. When a player dies and respawns, he should respawn at a spawn location as far away from his previous location as possible. Then the body could be lying there for an hour or so without issue since it takes at least that long to run from komarovka to novo. Ofcourse you could probably do the trip in 15 minutes if you have a car but if you can do that neat trick, you should be awarded for your tenacity...or luck....or having friends with a car.

I also think that the "hide body" option should be removed. If someone wants to hide a body, make him chop it up or even better, drag it somewhere to hide it. I hate it when someone kills a person and I'm a newspawn watching unable to do anything, then he hides the body so I can't even loot the scraps when the killer is gone :(

So.. if i suicide there, what will be as far away from my location position then?

Right :P
