valtsuh 68 Posted February 12, 2015 So you can't have enough dead people in an zombie apocalypse. When players die their corpses will disappear. What would be cool if their copses wouldn't disappear and they would turn into like static thing. For example, now days you walk into elektro and it's empty there's no dead people and only what you see is zombies but if this feature would be added it would be like this. You walk into elektro and you see bunch of dead people and zombies are eating them and you might wonder how some of those people died.Only problem is that there would be too much loot but if you wouldn't be able to loot them that would be fine.Other problem is that it would make server lag but if those bodies would turn into static things i think it wouldn't lag that much. And the bodies would start to rot and others have some meat cut'n off and has lots of blood near it.So this would be just made for the looks now dayz is pretty empty of course those bodies would disappear sometime but if they would be there in 2 restarts would look cool.So what do you think?post your ideas!
Rags! 1966 Posted February 12, 2015 Yes, dead bodies should indeed disappear. If they didn't, there would be piles of them littering the streets of coastal towns and military bases and it would make it even more difficult for items on the person to be factored into the loot economy. If bodies never disappeared, it would be immersive...at first...but then you'd see just how frequently people die in the same places since players still all spawn in the same general areas. There should be a longer timer on bodies, I think. But they should indeed despawn after a while.
BCBasher 2465 Posted February 12, 2015 What is the despawn time on a player body? I died and got back to my own body the other day but it couldn't have taken more than a couple minutes.
Warhoax 63 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) You sir have no idea how many people die in Dayz....That said, the combination of the current state & what you're saying should be cool though. How about something that no bodies would disappear untill the next server restart? Also, I heard that the despawn timer is 10 minutes. This seems to be correct whenever I'm in the mood of running towards my own corpse. Although, this seems to be completely wrong when I stay next to a killed survivor (30+ minutes). Basically I have a strong feeling that bodies killed before your own spawn, will disappear after 10 minutes and others stay around for a while longer. netzzwerg 9 Posted February 12, 2015 Bodies shouldnt stay forever but for an extended period of time, maybe one hour or so? Just that we can have some indicators for a recently frequented place (apart from finding no loot) and add some more immersion to the game without stressing the servers too much. So a good compromise between immersion/persistence and server performance is probably what should be aimed at.
stielhandgranate 480 Posted February 12, 2015 Persistent bodies should be a thing. In the mod it was scary as fuck to find a bunch of bodies at one location. During the launch my group found a bunch of guys that killed each other with a bunch of damaged loot on their bodies. It was unnerving to try and loot as much as you could off them before whoever killed them returned. It adds to the atmosphere and is player driven, unlike heli crashes which feel more like bonus item drops.
nexventor 429 Posted February 12, 2015 Server restart for sure.
Mancomb 131 Posted February 12, 2015 I, for one, would like to see some persistent bodies, especially now that persistence is active on most servers. However, the points raised above as to why they should despawn after a time are valid; my idea (one that I think might work well, if they can figure out how to code it in) would be for people that die, depending on how they died, to return as a zombie. Not only would this add to the number of zombies in a given area (especially if it's a hot zone with a lot of PvP action; imagine the hordes of zombies), but it would also allow us to actually loot a zombie once it's killed, since we can currently loot them, but they have nothing on them. If it were a former player that turned zombie, they would still have whatever stuff wasn't looted from them when they died, and it would still be lootable from the zombie corpse. Granted, most (if not all) of the items would likely be in poor condition, if not ruined altogether, but it would still be a nice little addition to the immersion. As it is, there are FAR too few zombies in the world, and I think this would help that; I know they plan on adding more zombies later, but when you think about it, especially after seeing shows like The Walking Dead and Z Nation where everyone becomes a zombie after they die (unless killed in the head), it kind of makes sense. It might be a fair amount of work, but if it can be pulled off, I think it would be worth it,.
thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted February 13, 2015 I think they should stay until server restarts. It was always unnerving in the Mod to find a body in the middle of nowhere, especially since the "examin body" thing would say "He was shot in the head" 90% of the time - It would get you wondering - is whoever killed this guy still around? At one point i found a clan's camp that had been besieged, and it appeared that everyone had died as the ground was littered with bodies. They also served as a warning - a Body in the middle of the field ment there may be a Sniper, or that there atleast were Bandits in the area. Unfortunately, they just added a standalone-type system where bodies despawn in the mod.
theevancat 94 Posted February 14, 2015 I hung out with a body in a building for easily twenty minutes today, and he was dead before I got there (he was warm, so probably not around for much longer than I was.) I thought that was plenty of time. I'm sure performance would suffer if there were bodies everywhere.
