Any plans for 3PP immersion?

Recommended Posts

Hicks has discussed this many times and the Dev's will NOT be removing 3PP so it is pointless discussing that. I doubt very very much that any changes will be made to 3PP, it will be left up to the modding community.

They have discussed adjusting 3pp however.

That is where hopefully they fix it so that it can't be abused like it is currently.

It's funny that you say it's abused where the 3pp crowd calls it a legit game style.

Oh really? What sort of direction where they talking about? Something like OP or more like the Arma 3 mod where people disappear?

there was an video someone posted in this forum, but i cant find it anymore (sorry).

There was 3rd person view with all the things you can do here, look over walls, around egdes and so on, BUT you cant see enemys while doing that.

The enemys pop up when they are in line of sight, not before.

This video was amazing and its for me the only solution for that "cheating" problem.

But when i remember right, one of the devs said, this will not work with dayz SA.

if someone is here with better skills in "forum searching" please try to find that vid.

Was probably me and it was this video if it was me.

I've played on first person servers almost every time I've played DayZ.

After getting into RHS wasteland I got reminded of how awful Arma gameplay is with 3rd person when 100% of the firefights were myself and my friends sat behind our trees/buildings while our opponents sat behind their trees/buildings until the first guy left his cover and got lit up.

Would I play 3rd person Arma and DayZ if a fix was made for peeking around corners? Hell yeah. Until then I only play when everyone's on a level field. Characters disappearing when not in your view like in the video would be the best option for a fix.

Very vague comments on looking into the perspective from what I recall.

It could mean anything like a fog of war type implementation like the video above or a simple camera reposition that severely hinders trying to peek over cover.

Developers ! Please remove 3rd Person on a trial basis.

I totally agree! Just try it and see how it goes. DayZ players against 3PP!

lets try something else first. Remove 1st person from the game. Only aiming with gun is first person. I'm disgusted by people who want everyone to play by their rules. Can't handle 3rd person? Play hardcore then. Waste of time this whole thread. Yes I play both and prefer none.

Not if the attacker is hiding behind a rock. Once you know someone is there, it's very easy to stay hidden in 3pp whilst keeping an eye on your prey.

What 3pp does is makes it easier for the people that love to KOS and harder for the people that are trying to play the game and survive and aren't interested in finding people to just shoot at.

This is way too situational.

Are you serious? It's these "situations" that will decide if you keep on playing with your 40+ hrs character or get killed by a starving newspawn that found a sks that you NEVER EVEN SAW.

And thus these "rare" situations form your overall experience with the game.

Almost every YouTuber plays 3PP and almost every video has at least some kind of action-section highlighting their shooting skills while abusing the wall peeking to a disgusting degree.

This IS a problem because I love DayZ mostly because of the random encounters but I acutally feel like I have met everyone playing 1PP within a sub-100 ping radius.

Oh no, I use it in every cheap way possible to get a better idea of whats going on when im trying to survive. I expect every survivor i meet is doing the same.

I simply see it as a gameplay mechanic that is avail. to everyone. I understand however that many dislike this due to their personal believes on how the game should be played.

I've played far too many mp games where i was playing by my own rules, where I intentionaly made it harder for me, because the use of some game mechanics/styles didn't feel rewarding whatever the achievment followed. From ganking players in mmos to AVPing some dust2 spawn kills or using premium ammo in wot for that "edge" in pen.

I understand that many prefer 1st person shooters, but there are people who like the third person aswell.

Personaly, i enjoyed both 1st person(cs,quake, dod,ro etc) and 3rd person (gtaVMP,JustCause2MP,APB:Reloaded etc) shooters.

Whilst cs was allot more skill intensive when it comes to aiming and muscle reflexes, crossair & burst control, APB was all about outplaying an opponent, using the cover and not exposing yourself whilst scaning in 3rd person.

I simply see 1pp and 3pp as two quite different gameplay modes (which they are). Both have their advantages/disadvantages, offer different gameplay/experience and I can play whichever i feel like playing more at that momment.I play both. You are right about the immersion; 1pp wins hands down.

Because it already looks like it when you're standing  :D

Yes I agree, if I play on 3pp I will use the magic eye and play differently and both are completely different styles of play - I just think people are losing out on the thrill and immersion of 1pp encounters because your view is more restricted which makes you feel more vulnerable. Dyslexci (however you spell it) made a good video pointing out the differences.

Copying my reply from another thread:

They have to do something about the stance-system. It's too clunky for first-person play, and I think that's one of the reasons why we are getting less and less 1PP-servers. For example if you're on a roof and want to peek over the edge then it's impossible to do without exposing your entire body from 360 degrees.

I also think the movement system is better in Arma 3, the running speed isn't insane like it's in DayZ. Everyone are not zig-zagging like crazy to avoid bullets.. You can choose your running stance so you don't have to move like a snail indoor to have your gun out.

Personally I think it would be perfect if they just implemented the movement from Arma 3, it's been a year now and movement is a disaster for first-person players. Although I can understand how this doesn't bother the inexperienced players that just use 3PP to do everything.

Or they could just remove 3PP altogether? I don't see the problem.

Are you incapable of filtering 1pp servers? Do you want me to make a tutorial for you?

I would prefer if they removed whiny as* bi**** like yourself first. I dont see the problem.

sighs... haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate..

Adapt, maybe??????

It's a nice video and he's tottaly right about immersion and experience. I tottaly agree with him.

Ontopic wise, i would only change the max fov setting and cameras angle. Just enough to get a LOS collision with the bottom of a window/fence.

Correct me if im wrong but even if they would hardcap these settings, im pretty sure you could get around it very easily?

Forcing ppl to play a way you want them to play is no better than if 3PP were to force there play habits on you. Just let it be. The developers want to keep both around so i don't see them getting rid of 1PP anytime soon.

Misquoted. The real quote is:

I disagree with him, but it was funny. :).

As much as I'd like just 1PP, it won't happen. So I was just curious if the Devs were still planning to improve 3PP.

3rd person view is about as lame a playing style as they come.  Especially in a FPS game.  From any reality standpoint it should never have been introduced.  Only happened in Arma due to the whiners who play with console controllers.  Since the mass influx of new PC gamers coming from the consoles.........that's all they know,  3rd person with a gamepad.  Makes sense, when the gamepad is designed after a RC controller used to fly your RC plane or car.... where you are in 3rd person.

Being a FP player I try to only play on FP only servers. but if playing in 3rd person with a gamepad suits you, go for it.

And it should be either one or the other, but not both.  Those using FP on a 3P/FP server will be at a disadvantage due to the inherent cheat that is 3rd person.  Seen it so many times on Youtube videos it is funny to watch, 3rd person guy hiding around a corner using his view advantage to look beyond what his character can actually see. Plus it's funny to see someone complain about hackers when they use 3rd person.

Or as the OP suggested add some concepts for those who prefer to play in 3rd person.  When another player comes close enough..... all views go FP.  Just making the camera tighter or restricting the 3rdP view doesn't diminish the advantage.

These threads are always the same.  1PP is the loudly outspoken minority of DayZ players.  Just look at all the full 3PP servers to confirm it.  I enjoy 1PP regularly, but 3PP will always have its place in my playing time.  The thought of getting rid of it, or even changing it from its current form, is just delusional.

There are two separate public hives.  Play on the one you prefer and leave others preferences out of it.

Re: changing it - I.e. 3pp

Then it's a delusion that WAS shared by the Dev team at one point. That was the impetus for the question. OP (me) just wanted to know if this was something they were still contemplating. I agree, both perspectives are here to stay. My hope was that the team was going to do something about the "exploit" aspect of 3PP since, if I want to play on a full server, it looks like I'll be on 3rd as well. So, it's a question from me, not a suggestion.

Meant no offense, friend.  Unfortunately your post devolved from your original question to a 1PP vs 3PP thread.  Tends to happen on these forums.  I disagree with 3PP being an exploit, but to each there own.

Good compromise would just be a readjusted 3pp camera + fog of war system.

Everyone wins.

3PP and immersion are mutually exclusive concepts, unless you are talking about creating a camera angle from just inside the player's skull.  Similar question:  Any plans for a lobotomy that adds grey matter?  Not trying to be rude, or call anyone dumb. I'm just stating that by definition, 3rd person perspective is not immersive; it is right there in the name--third person.  Meaning that you as the player, are playing from the perspective of an observer, with the avatar being the "first person."  Immersion is not an option, as long as 3PP is a option.  I prefer first person, especially indoors, but have started using 3PP while traveling with others.  Mostly because they call me stupid or crazy for using 1PP.  I'll bet that the developers don't even have to tweak the 3PP FOV settings, or add a whole new system for calculating the fog of war.  They could just limit 3PP servers to civilian loot only, and watch all the players move to the servers that spawn the "leet gears, bro."  Have fun peeking around walls and over rooftops, and good luck sniping from the fire stations with a repeater.
