8 hours of playing and 3 character resets later

Recommended Posts

So I spend my day off playing.  1st life I made it to a military installation got gear, a truck, log out to eat lunch.  In PERFECT HEALTH and log back in and I'm dead, lose everything.  Spend the next 6 hours trying to avoid zombies crawling up walls, in walls, THROUGH walls, 3 more character resets FOR NO REASON, fix the character reset thing or you're going to lose players it's that simple, I get close to somewhere log out to go to the freaking bathroom get a drink of water or whatever AND ITS ALL GONE THIS IS SOME BS AND NEEDS TO BE ADRESSSED NOW.

Make sure you're joining the same server type (public/private, 1st/3rd person). Although it does sometimes reset for no reason, it hasn't in a while for me though.

And dont log out until your sure you wont get a zombie on you ( your character stays in game after you log out for brief period ) - log outside towns if possible, 2nd story is good if has to be a town, expect to log back in on first though 8P

I understand your frustration, but know at least that your problem is fixable. I haven't experienced any (unintentional) resets since closed testing, and with careful server selection you shouldn't either.

Best advice is to find a server you like, then stick to it. Or at least pay attention to what you join, private/public/1stP/3rdP all have different databases.

Same server, public shard, EMPHASIS is not full on caps for a whole paragraph or anything just want certain things to stand out.  There was another thread about people dying with full health.  I was in a truck, full health, says energized healthy, hydrated.  I'm sitting in the truck when I log out, I log back on and after about 30 seconds of a black screen it says "You are dead"  explain that please?  Maybe a run of bad luck but still, as much as I paid to upgrade my pc and for this game can I get a half way fair roll at it ?  It's in my power to run or kill zombies, or hide from players but when the game just says YOU'RE DEAD when you spend 3-4 hours of collecting stuff, have a truck full military log out for a drink of water in the middle of the woods and log back and you're dead is some strait up BS

Trucks have a few different bugs around them, so it's very unwise to log off within one. At present if you log off in a truck you will not log back into the truck. You will login at the last point you entered the truck. The mostly likely thing as previously stated is you got into that truck at NWAF, you then logged in and whilst you were at please wait your body appeared in the open at NWAF and someone shot you. The other possibility is you someone logged in underneath the truck, and got killed by the truck. Either way, next time, get out of the truck, and move a little away from it before you log off.

Character wipes can happen if you join a server too quickly after a respawn, and if can happen if the server you're joining lacks resources. Sometimes when a server host has an automatic server setup in place it can lead to the dayz server being setup on a machine that is unable to handle it. This has happened to me twice, and the main problem has been issues with the game world not loading very quickly and causing wipes for people joining.

Wipes happen but can be avoided if you know what to look out for.

Thank you for taking some time to explain some ways I can avoid having what appears to be my character reset?  I'm guessing somehow I'm dying like the rest of them, never had this problem in any of the previous versions, and can see some other peoples posts with the frustration of their character dying when they disconnect or get disconnected.  I will try these suggestions out and after a day of playing I'm going to report back on my experience, I'm pretty savvy when it comes to figuring little tricks out and there was just no rhyme or reason to the whole thing so well see.

Make sure you wait at least a whole minute, preferably closer to two minutes before logging off.  As of 0.53, the zombie aggro sounds appear to be hit-and-miss.  They can spot you from so very far away, and will follow you for quite a ways while you are sprinting.  Only when you stop, will they have the chance to really catch up.  I've been sneak-attacked by quite a few zeds this week, and the first I heard or saw of them was the last three steps before they ruined my vest.  So if you just run until you think you are safe in a treeline, there might be a silent zombie beating you to death for the thirty seconds it takes for the server to despawn your character.  Also the truck thing :)
