What are the circumstances? Are you in the second floor of a building?  Are you indoors?  Are you running around the street?

I've had both happen to me. On both occasions I had been running for a lengthy amount of time (20 mins etc) and from what I hear, could be a rumor however, it could be a heart attack that causes sudden death. Cannot confirm this but the common denominator was 'running non stop across the map' without a break.

There is a some sort of insta-death hack out there. Could have been that. Who knows. A kill cam / log (although unrealistic) would be great for this reason alone. This is alpha. We need to gather info.

The Dev team should provide us with all types of info relating to in-game events. Not sure why they don't. We are, after all Alpha testers. Are we not? Other than "my leg is painful (sic)", there are not many valid messages we can fault find with. Server owners fair better. But the majority are just players. We need more info.

Any time you're on the 2nd+ floor of a building, there's a known bug that's a risk, most notably in firestations, ATC's, etc which will (as I understand it) causes desync between the server and the client making the server think you've changed vertical dimension too much (aka fallen) and you ruin your shoes and/or break your legs and/or die. There was also an issue out there for a while where gunshot noises would not happen in certain circumstances (I think if you were facing directly at it?). Either way, it allowed a scenario where you could get shot without ever hearing a shot. Search the forums and feedback tracker on these - not sure if this explains some of what you ran into, but it could be related. Opening ticket(s) on the feedback tracker is always a good idea regardless.

Thanks for the replies , yeah i loved to see a kill message telling you what killed you zombie , akm etc but i know would would start crying about immersion if that was added.

In all likelyness, it was a hacker.  Up until 0.53 they could teleport right to your location.  Luckily movement/TP was fixed in 0.53, but they can still see where you are and which direction you're looking, instakill you, disarm you, make you go prone etc.  My last probably 10 deaths have been to hackers, including my last 2 in 0.53.  There is more work to be done, I hope they quicken the pace.

I'm so glad somebody mentioned this because I've just upped and died a few times. I couldn't figure out if it was a bug with 53 or I just got headshotted and didn't hear the shot. I've encountered that broken leg bug in the fire station. And just 30 min ago I was in an elevated position where my screen just went black and said you're dead.

A good sniper with a mosin can headshot you from outside of gunshot audible range and make you die real fast. If you are on a second floor of a building, you can die to the leg breaking (fall through floor) bug.

actually, depends, could be bow/crossbow, could be teleporting 1000 fists, or a mosin sniper hitting you in the head.

most times you might just hear a twack sound or nothing at all. they fixed the gunshot bug apparently. but i imagine it to rear its ugly head in the future just like other bugs....

cant wait for "drink, fall down bug again" so fun....

Even a kill log that existed outside of the game's information ticker would be helpful.  There should be some personal data tracker that records your life for each character: zed kills, KM traveled, dL drunk, food consumed, shots fired, and cause of death.  Even if cause is simple; like fall, or shot by "*******", beaten by zombie, drowned, hypothermia, or possibly hacker.

When a game is in alpha, and players have no way of knowing how they died, how effectively can the developers expect them to provide accurate debugging feedback?  Is the ATC 2nd floor still broken, or did I just not hear a gunshot from hangars, firehouse, etc.  Not having the game relate cause of death to players is responsible for much confusion, to the point that my legit death count has a margin of error of about 50%.  I am happy with the progress since I bought in early January 2015, but the random unexplained deaths are wose than both KOS and parlance gone bad.

That's the goss. But I hope it's not.

Ran from east (Novo) to west (NWAF) and entered a nearby barn. Stopped to check some loot and "you are dead" (Nobody around me from what I could tell)

Not conclusive. But it happened again under very similar circumstances. If true, I would rather a fatigue / weight system to warn / hinder a player from excessive exhaustion.

The server logs now show you kill/death messages, so administrators can track these things at least.  I'm not sure how in depth the deaths that involve just you go (drowned/bled out/hypothermia etc) though.

For me personally, I've not experience a random/bug death in quite some time (The upside I guess).  I don't remember the last time I didn't see the guy teleporting towards me, being forced to go prone so I can't shoot back, or have my weapon mysteriously put away before I died.  So for me there isn't much question about where these deaths are coming from.  I'm happy with 0.53 also, I just hope this work continues with the engine.  We don't need new features right now, we need a safe/flourishing user base instead of bleeding them out because of frustrating hacks.

But how to tell the difference???

For me it was pretty plain to see something screwed up and I fell through the floor, but that hasn't happened to me in months.  It's more than likely a sniper in the instant dead situation, and with any luck he wasn't removing building rendering and/or tracking you with ESP ;)

I usually play in 1PP on 3rd public servers.  1st person deaths without any sight or sound of a cause are very mysterious to me, but at least they haven't happened yet on .53.  The last one I can remember was at the top of the airfield ATC, after coming from firehouse. I was staying low and had been scoping the field between each move; didn't see any blood or have any sound of a hit.  I was even using 3rd person to search the area above the stairs, the death screen came right as picked up a Magnum.  Hasn't happened since.53.

Well, I experienced the random leg break due to lag two weeks ago, and I have now had two completely random deaths in secured buildings while looking in my inventory.  No windows nearby, once on ground floor, once on second floor.  This needs to be fixed.

I just died of a massive desynch that dropped me off a cliff near Kamensk,  though I was well on my way to overheating in a raincoat.  The "safe place" deaths are the most annoying by far.

Shouldn't you still hear the gunshot after death if killed outside 'audible range'?  Pretty sure you still hear the shot, just the bullet hits you first.  I haven't died to longshots for some time now, but i know you can still hear people talking when you're dead, not sure about sound effects tho?..

I wouldn't mind a log accessable only after / during death.  Immersion is OK when you're alive.  When you're dead you're dead, what's the harm in checking your history.  You could always choose not to check too... but this is going OT.

If the devs won't confirm that sudden cardiac arrest is in the game, it probably isn't. Myths have a life of their on once they've gotten a foothold.

This is what is commonly called "rubberbanding", is that correct?

Rubberbanding is related but different. Rubberbanding is where you're running and all of the sudden you snap back 20 steps as though a few seconds of gameplay never happened, you "snap back like a rubber band". The reason it's related is, per my understanding, they're both caused by the client and server not being in alignment with where you are. When you rubberband you don't break your legs or die.

That's not factual.

As far as the admin logs go, we can see when a player has been killed by another player (most of the time) but when you die from a fall or zed or starvation or even if you're unconscious from a gunshot and die that way, the admins cannot see those types of deaths even with the logs
