Weyland Yutani (DayZ)

Advanced Question On Ping

Recommended Posts

Why is it when I played DayZ Mod my connection was junk with 200+ ping servers. In SA I play on 320 ping servers all the time in AU, NZ, Singapore [EXP] with zero effect on gameplay.

How does this happen?

Are you looting, because I have found that the higher my ping, the less often I am aloud to pick up items.

Looting, shooting, everything. Never skipping a beat.

Maybe it is just the starting connection ping? Maybe when you join it drops to a steady ping of some sorts?

Nope, solid 300+.

Someone on reddit said it was because of the network bubble.

What do you keep your max at in filters? I never even attempt to see let alone connect to anything greater than a 90 ping.

Could be very well be that. Rather unsure honestly. Thought i'd give it a go and see if it was that.

Ping is only a measure of time for your data to reach the server and come back again. That's 3/tenths of a second, quicker than any human being can react. Assuming an unbroken, steady connection, I don't see why you should suffer anything that badly for a 300ms ping.

Not true. Human eye recognizes light at 1/10th and can react before 3/10th's.

New studies from MIT show the human eye can react @ 0.013 seconds. Not sure if I'm sold on the study, but its out there. Also, not sure what they mean by 'react' as the term has sub categories and laden with ambiguity.

My friend and I live very far apart (7 hours time difference) so it's impossible for us to both have a good ping when we play together.

My friend usually plays with the high ping. 300-400.

Most of the times he doesn't even notice it. He kills more ppl than I do and if he has problems with picking things up, I usually have them, too. So those are not ping related in our case.

Seems to me that a ping of 300-400 is still well playable atm.

Cuz dayz mod was a script monstrosity , not sure if that could affect your ping but definitely affects how choppy gameplay was , standalone stays away from scripts and instead is hardcoded...

That's the only thing I can think of if dayz mod plays like crap on way less ping than what dayz sa gives you with better performance and more ping ..

You're misrepresenting what I said - you cannot react, as in, you, the whole you and nothing but the you lol. Does your eye play video games or is it your hands that move the controls and your brain interpreting what your eyes see. It's the end result I'm obviously talking about your reaction times and unless you're a floating eyeball, you're incorrect.
