Alternate means of transporting equipment

Recommended Posts

So, we have in-game currently only really one way to carry stuff: On the back

I propose the addition of alternate means of gear carrying, namely, the usage of wagons, carts, and hand-made structures. In real life, these things allow for a single person to carry far more equipment than they would by themselves, with much less effort.

Wagons:

Everyone knows what a "Radio Flyer" wagon, is, right? While Chernarus might not have the exact same version, I am sure that there were small wagons around, whether for children to play with or for more mundane tasks, like pulling firewood. They could be found as loot (like trucks), and require one hand to be used effectively. They are relatively lightweight, can be used in rough terrain, and tough

Cart: So, we have all of these "grocery stores" around Chernarus, but no grocery carts. They can carry a decent amount of stuff, but are pretty much limited to roads due to small wheel size, and require both hands to push.

Sled: everyone knows about the sleds used by children during the winter for snow-sledding. However, they also can be used to ferry equipment around! Not as much as a wagon or cart, due to the lack of wheels, and they will travel slower, but they are easier to fix (and can even be easily improvised)

Travois: Fast and easy to make, the travois is my favorite way to transport loads of firewood, backpacks, or other heavy loads of gear over long, rough terrain. Essentially, take two long sticks, and lash them together at the ends to make an isosceles triangle. Add cross-pieces for support and to hold the gear, and balance the lashed-ends on your shoulders. Good to go!

All of these above methods could and would lead to more effective trade, as now traders could feasibly carry enough trade/barter goods to make longer trips "worthwhile".

You can make a hostage and make him carry yours stuffs, but that would be cool.

You can already carry sooooo much gear, I see no reason something like this would be necessary at all.

By "soooo much gear", what do you really mean?

Enough for one person? I've carried about 10-peoples-worth of equipment using a travois with little issue.

It'd be pretty cool, and for everyone who's complaining (and plan on complaining) about loot hoarders, look at it like this, now you can shoot them easier and stop them from getting their goodies to wherever <3 That or ya know, you could just rob them like a nice guy

No I mean enough for 2 or 3 people, and if your running with a small group of 2 or 3 there is more than ample backpack space for any supplies that would be necessary (even for setting up a camp).  Don't get me wrong I don't mind seeing people pop like a pinata when I shoot them just think it's unnecessary.  Just saying a group of 3 with 2 people in ghillies and the other carrying supplies can survive easily, I don't think it needs exaggerated even further.

**I wasn't trying to disparage your idea in the least, I think it would be funny as hell seeing someone pulling a little red wagon was just stating concerns

This is fantastic I really hope weight and stamina bog the player down making this even more viable.

I wanna see crates that can only be carried in the hands/loaded into vehicles.

That way in the future when there's more vehicles we can have people transporting boxes of large quantities of junk.  And ferrying said boxes to and from the vehicles.  It would encourage team work and provide for interesting encounters.

Only with vestceptions though, right?

There would need to be a trade off between capacity, stamina, and distance traveled.  How much can the cart carry?  Half of my capacity?  in that case I see no reason to even bother?  1X my load?  1/4 speed?  Maybe. 2X at half speed and a 3/4 stamina usage?  Sure.

Balance folks.  Just adding a cart with X space doesn't really make the game.

This is a really good idea as vestceptiom has been nixed in the current experimental build,

Vestception was an exploit and you server hopping item miners should be heavily punished by any system that comes next.  For example, your cart or red flyer doesn't jump servers with you.and there should be a % chance of items lost if you hop out and come right back.  If not purely for exploiting then for dragging down server performance with your nonsense.

No.... I was referring to real life, here. I was camping with my Scouting troop, and I made a travois to ferry equipment from the trailer to the cabin in one go, rather than carry everything by hand.

Unfortunately we have a clunky interaction mechanic and in a situation where you have to leave your cart could prove deadly.

Dragging a cart along the way is something that should seriously reduce our character's mobility.

Concerning large cargo (car engines, wheels etc) a system like this would prove very useful.

However, while a good and viable idea,i would personally prefer transportation with horses and oxen carts and carriages instead.
