zenie250 1 Posted January 20, 2015 Ok so im sure anyone who plays Day Z like me you probably have had the problem of melee combat with the zombies, or in other words your weapons do no damage and wont even hit them, Thats because! your too close, usually im assuming almost everyone dose this, is when they fight with melee they are literally face to face with the zombie and swinging at it, I was playing last night and trapped in a house by one of the terrors, i opened the door and when he charged I backed up in fear of getting hit of course and when i swung i took him out in two hits! so if your fighting a zombie don't go right up to him and start swinging, keep your distance about probably 2 feet (24 inches) from the zombie. then swing, your weapon if aimed correctly it will hit right on the head and you will actually hear a noise when your weapon makes contact with there skull. Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted January 20, 2015 Always look at the business end of your weapon. Playing Chivalry before DayZ paid off for me in melee combat :P Can we pin this? I'm tired of people assuming that the dot is where it goes then come and complain about melee broken. It's like Chivalry, follow the fucking swing or you miss. Pretty damn simple.

I've been lining up 2fers for a while now, still working on that elusive 3fer. Makes me remember my third day or so in Chivalry, cutting three heads with one swing of the longsword. Good times...

Melee swings currently only strike one target... how the fuck are you cleaving them?
sachad 1016 Posted January 20, 2015 Melee swings currently only strike one target... how the fuck are you cleaving them? Skillz, I guess? Fire axes are well capable of hitting two zombies at a time. If not by intent, then by buggy code.
LORDPrometheus 21 Posted January 20, 2015 This isn't really earth shattering news since its just how real life works. You can't hit someone with a full axe swing if they are literally in your face. Stepping inside of an opponents swing is a major aspect of self defense since you can't punch someone who is chest to chest with you.
Etherious 907 Posted January 20, 2015 Melee swings currently only strike one target... how the fuck are you cleaving them? It's entirely possible. I have killed up to three zombies at once with 1 swing.

The first zombie dies while the animation of the swing continues through any others without affecting them whatsoever.Any chance of one of you uploading a video? If you can recommend a free recording program that won't stomp my current shitty FPS down to extra shitty, I'll give it a whirl. edit: Found this video on YouTube. This is pretty much how I manage to do it. Line 'em up and whack 'em. Edited January 20, 2015 by Sacha

I'll have another go at it tonight.I like how he missed the first two easy swings then randomly gets two with one lucky swing.
sachad 1016 Posted January 20, 2015 Cool. I'll have another go at it tonight.I like how he missed the first two easy swings then randomly gets two with one lucky swing. Well, I'd say it's 80% luck and 20% timing. First you need to get lucky to get them lined up properly, and then you need to time it so your swing hits both of them :P

Avant-Garde 229 Posted January 21, 2015 This game melee system will be so nice in the end, can't wait to see the tracers matching perfectly all the animations. Also decent animation for pitchfork and many others prease :) I find that hockey stick rather good tbh, you must drag your mouse right to left smoothly following the animation, if you do it right its a easy weapon for headshots thus one hit killing zombies. Its range makes it viable, different from the baseball bat that is shit. One thing I noticed, if you run pressing W+A or W+D with some weapons and swing it, the animation will be completely broken, of course this is most noticiable with the pitchfork ehehe, but almost every weapon has this bug in animation. If they plan on adding block/parry there is still a lot of work to do before it imo. For those who play Chivalry, in DayZ you can also do b0ckswings lol. I killed a zed using this but I do not recommend

Grimey Rick 3417 Posted January 21, 2015 I killed three zombies with one swing of my axe last night after seeing the video above. When you're trying to kill multiple zombies with one swing you need to pick a spot between all of them and aim for it. The axe doesn't really cleave them, you just have to hit all of their hit boxes simultaneously.Cool feature though.
jurionov37 22 Posted January 21, 2015 Also, its pretty retarded to use melee in 3pp(well 3pp is completely retarded anyway), switch to 1pp for combat, its a lot easier
chickenmcfuggits 49 Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) What does the last p in 3pp stand for? 3rd person play?3rd person peripheral? Edited January 21, 2015 by Chzy

I mean, how the fuck would you hit 3 persons with one swing? You have to be a really, REALLY strong person to chop through 2 guys and still have momentum to kill a 3rd one! Man, they should add a Halberd imo, they are already adding medieval stuff, why not a halberd? I mean, its the best melee weapon there is, great for "castle" defense. A halberd in a zombie appocalipse is all I ever need lol. Would be the M4 of melee weapons Edited January 21, 2015 by Avant-Garde
