JarheadLeeds 2 Posted January 4, 2015 whats with this game lel, i can hardly play at 1080p with my beastly rig, yet if i put the render resolution to 4k i get double the fps, i wonder if its because it will use more of the gpu than 1080p would, has anyone else noticed this or is it just me ? my pc specs are as followed, sandisk extreme ii ssd (dayz is installed on), 1tb wd green, msi 4g gtx 970, i7 4790 and 16 gigs of corsair vengeance ram, i hate people who say "upgrade your potato" its like yeah because thats a potato rig.
St. Jimmy 1631 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Are you 100% sure about the fps increase? Were you in the same place, watching exactly the same spot, on the same server when you changed the graphic settings? Are you sure you didn't change for example object detail or other graphic settings when you changed renderer resolution? Naturally you should get more GPU usage when you increase the render resolution but more fps sounds bit suspicious without proof. Interesting if it's realy like that. Yeah your rig isn't potato. Can't buy much better than that. Edited January 4, 2015 by St. Jimmy

I remember finding the holy grail of settings that worked for my computer for Arma2 after playing around with them for so long.
JarheadLeeds 2 Posted January 4, 2015 same server and everything il try get some screenshots etc tomorrow to show you, in this town while on 1080p i was only getting 25-30fps, when i put the render resolution on i was getting 45fps, i was like wtf.
Warhoax 63 Posted January 4, 2015 I once read that for video settings, all video settings with anything lower than "high" is processed by the CPU and all "High" or above by the GPU.But it's kinda weird that your resolution would act the same way?

I remember finding the holy grail of settings that worked for my computer for Arma2 after playing around with them for so long.I remember a long discussion about this on the (bis forums was it?) apparently if you have a powerful CPU and set your graphics settings to shit, it shifts more of the rending to the already loaded down cpu or some shenanigans like that. i forget the specifics now, but someone linked doezens of screenshots with different settings and system performance logging showing that in some areas reducing settings beyond a certain point reduced FPS and increased CPU load. given the number of changes to the engine since A2 im not sure how much of that still applies tho...
harteman 155 Posted January 5, 2015 Knowing what I know, that doesn't sound possible. Rendering more=more fps? Not in the reality I have been living in...
stinkenheim 249 Posted January 5, 2015 It's to do with the way the game divides the work that needs processing. The higher the settings are then the more of the graphics card is allocated to processing that information. Lower settings use more of the cpu, with the fans already being quite cpu heavy and using 1 or 2 cores it does make a surprising difference
Irish. 4886 Posted January 5, 2015 When I played the mods, the one thing I noticed was that I could change one of my video settings, I think rendering to above 1080p and even though my monitor at that time was 900p, suddenly when I did that the game ran smoother, looked better, and had higher FPS. I could even see the pixels change from 900p to above 1080p. It blew my mind, but it worked so I left it and never really questioned it after that. When I upgraded my monitor to a 1080p native, the game looked worse and ran worse. I went through hell trying to remember what I did, and in the end.. switched back to my old monitor, lol. But now I have a non-potato rig, great monitor, and have a better grasp on the settings. Im gonna do some testing for science to see what I can find in regards to this. kichilron 8550 Posted January 5, 2015 I am currently supersampling the game as well, completely on purpose to have it look better. And I ended up with a game that actually runs smooth, looks good and all of that even though my system is entirely AMD-based. Duh.
huf757 82 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Holy Sheet!!!!!This does fracking work. In the high rise area above cheranurus I used to get 24 fps at the highest average around 20 with this I now get 34 highest and average around 28 to 30. Not a whole lot but when your in the 20's 8 to 10 frames makes a huge difference. I also notice my GPU is working more so this is probably why it increases it utilizes GPU more. Thanks man beans to you. Edited January 5, 2015 by huf757
