-Gews- 7443 Posted January 6, 2015 I know a number of people who shoot duck with flechette, it's quite a popular round, if a little expensive among shooters I know. It's not "quite a popular round", I've never heard of such a thing, waterfowling with flechettes, that would be extremely unusual. Draco122 412 Posted January 6, 2015 Flechettes really aren't necessary - you wouldn't get too much of a difference in performance gameplay wise regardless, and they're just not common anywhere to justify it. Slugs are really the only shell I'd say is "necessary" to have in the game (or back in the game, working.) Bean bag shells, or rock salt shells (or both, one being a police/military less-than-lethal choice and the other being a civilian choice) and breacher shells would be interesting to have, too. I also like the concept of Frag-12/HE shells, but those are still fairly experimental so you'd really only find them at helicopter crashsites if anywhere, and honestly they're just too far fetched to be worthwhile. (What's the point when they can just add grenade launchers?) Overall I think what we need in terms of "shotgun shells" in general is simple this: Birdshot or ShotBuckshotSlugBean Bag/Rubber SlugBreaching SlugFlareBlankImprovised Ammo (if they ever add in the ability to make your own ammo out of scrap parts that is) Perhaps add in "Magnum" sub variants which have more power but are overall rarer in spawn chance. It's not "quite a popular round", I've never heard of such a thing, waterfowling with flechettes, that would be extremely unusual. I'm with gews on this, I regularly hunt waterfowl and other small game and I've NEVER known anyone to use Flechettes, even in the states, Flechettes are often treated as a novelty. Now I've known some guys shoot pest species like fox and rabbit with homemade shot before but I've never heard anyone use flechettes for hunting.
ToySmokes 116 Posted January 8, 2015 Would be cool to have different types of rounds for all sorts of weapons. I'm all for it

Geckofrog7 1168 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) and bread ammo for feeding ducks. and duck ammo for feeding wolves. stone ammo, feather ammo....... no this is not battlefield*person suggests anything remotely gun related*"OMG ITS NOT CALL OF DUTY BATTLEFIELD JEEZ"People use different type ammunition all the time in reality. If anything, it'd separate DayZ more from most FPS's. Edited January 9, 2015 by Geckofrog7
agouti 105 Posted January 9, 2015 Just about every 12 ga these days has a 3" chamber, both guns in-game do, 3" shell is already very old and standard. And military/police almost always use 2-3/4", 3" is if you want extra power/pellets hunting. 2-3/4" buckshot and slugs will cycle fine in most any decent autoloader, the low brass target loads are the problem for some.Yup, it's a novelty which no one uses (not militaries either) and no major ammo company produces. The US military uses flechette rounds in the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle. There's a rumor that they coat them in anti-coagulant. I think this is false, as it would be in violation of international law. Alternatively, the chemical markers on them, could work as such as a side effect. All of that aside, imagine if we could apply heparin to flechette rounds.
Tely 3 Posted January 31, 2015 Fleshettes are something I was thinking about the other day would be cool and also dragons breath for the shotgun.
gibonez 3633 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) agreed i know a lot of hunters and most just use slugs. i don't think you can go into a gunstore and buy it as i frequent them a lot. but we are in a country that i figure might have laws that are a little more loose than the US. Yea in the US I have never seen a store stock anything other than, rocksalt, buckshot, birdshot and slugs. *person suggests anything remotely gun related*"OMG ITS NOT CALL OF DUTY BATTLEFIELD JEEZ"People use different type ammunition all the time in reality. If anything, it'd separate DayZ more from most FPS's. Yet they don't. Those exotic shotgun shells are nothing more than novelty items that heck you can't find anywhere in a Gun nut country like the US I would imagine Chenarus a Rural Eastern European nation would have even less chances of finding these rounds. The only shotgun shells that would make sense to add are Bird shot, rocksalt, buckshot and slugs. Edited January 31, 2015 by gibonez
OnionOfShame 138 Posted March 18, 2015 Beans for you sir!I love this idea. Right now a squad is basically just 1-2 snipers and a bunch of guys with auto rifles. It would be interesting to change squad dynamics by adding new types of utility/Combat shells and making shotguns viable as a primary weapon.
Santa fox 53 Posted March 18, 2015 Sounds like a very good idea, would absolutely like to see it implemented.

And as far as fletchette rounds for waterfowl .. wtf? lol if that is seriously legal in your parts the person making the laws outta be kicked in the balls .... nothing like making it ok for people to litter little spiked steel shafts all over the place. Hell there are groups of people in the US here not ONLY pushing for no more lead ammo but some of them want it required that all ammo be biodegradable as well. *didnt see how old post was >.< Edited March 18, 2015 by SaveMeJebus
