  1. After losing 2 fights with a kitchen knife, and having less of a reach than an empty hand, I've decided this really needs some work. I was able to stab someone in the chest, but was unable to reach the head, and was able to be punched out twice. Regardless of this, I feel stabbing someone in the upper torso a good 20 times ought to kill them, but apparently not. Why is it I feel in so many games, your characters try to retardedly slash or chop with a knife? The purpose of small bladed weapons is to drive them into major blood vessels and organs. Why is it, after taking a few bullets, all of my gear is ruined, but after a few stabs, their organs are not? I would like to think a steel handgun is more resilient to a zombie swinging at it then a human organ at taking a knife, but this is the dayz world we live in. TL;DR Devs, make kitchen knives, combat knives, etc. etc. that if you aim in the upper chest, neck, or possibly even head, it kills them in 1-2 hits, preferably 1 for a good heart stab. These 2 experiences have ruined the suspension of disbelief for some time to come.
  2. I have several questions and thoughts for you, and I like your post. #1 What would happen if I ate an acorn without cooking it in real life? I think they're bitter iirc. #2 I love fruit, and while I hate nearly all vegetable material, this has led to some interesting consequences as you describe. I was surprised this didn't happen in game, I was waiting for the text message. #3 In my mind, we need not just rpgs, but anti-material rifles. For most purposes, this will be more useful. You're taking out the engine blocks of cars, not fighting armored vehicles. Though if armored vehicles make an appearance, I'll be glad to have that rpg. #4 There are people out there that know how to fix helicopters or could figure it out in a very very reasonable amount of time (weeks or months). I got this buddy who plays who I'd bet hard money he could figure it out (he has a helicopter obsession). This is the same buddy of such patience, who'd wait by the lone gas station with his anti-material rifle maybe a half mile off in the woods, would blow out a passing engine block, and then the drivers who get out. Loot up, dispose the evidence for the next unsuspecting vehicle, repeat. He'd spent hours waiting for trucks to pass if necessary. He'd do this for days, just amassing loot, really showed his patience. Never saw him die once doing this, he always had everything set up in his favor. The reason I'm saying this, is there are individuals who have the patience to learn, patience to fully plan out contingencies, and the coolness of head to execute. Alternatively, I'll have to find the video of him and I doing the other obvious way for getting a helicopter. You simply steal it from someone else who has a sustainable fortified base when they're not there. :)

They have been trained from birth not to. If you're willing to risk your safety on someone with no firearms experience, a hesitation for killing, and someone prone to panicky behavior, go for it. Call me sexist, but you're a damned ostrich. Oh, maybe it's due to conditioning and not biological reality. It's still there and just as much a liability. Then again, maybe I vastly overrate the firearms experience of the users here, and their own willingness to kill. I've generally noticed the less "socially conservative" and more "open-minded" these sorts of posts are, the less real world experience and common sense usually accompanies it.

In a world where there is no law and order, and the majority of girls would be a nuisance at best, greatly reducing one's sex appeal and major selling points sounds like a bad idea for a survival situation.
  5. My favorite .380s are also .32s. Let's get some ortgies, or remington p51. The old one. (Or an old Husqvarna or Browning/FN job) The .32 is a blegh round. (TBH, if you own any of these, a .32 NAA borer might be something to look into, I think the .380 is also anemic) Marlin Model 60 anyone? I tried this with a Stevens .22. I'd still like a stevens. I'd rather go with the marlin 99 over the marlin 60 though. The marlin 99 is 10x cooler.

    Complexity of damage given.

Near instant loss of consciousness, and death in under a minute isn't considered an instantaneous death? The way I interpreted that was that he was suggesting the wound would ultimately need to be treated, and is a hindrance, but isn't life threatening immediately. A femoral artery shot most definitely would be.

    Complexity of damage given.

I present to you: the femoral artery. Your argument is invalid. No really, your blood pressure will plummet, you'll lose consciousness immediately, and you'll be dead in under a minute. From a leg wound. (I think major blood vessels should be hit boxes in their own right) The ability to stop bleeding needs a major overhaul. "Yeah, well, I took a few .223s, but I wrapped an old rag around my wrist and now I'm good as new."

No, most guns you find should be in emaculate pristine condition. You just need to spend hours removing the cosmoline. Now THAT would make dayz realistic.

Do not make DayZ SA Moddable.

Modding will be the only thing that saves this game, as its the only thing that saves every game. Dayz is just unique in that it's open to script kiddies, and a better part of the community seems unable to distinguish between a mod and a script kiddie. I remember battlefield 1942 and the only thing that kept that game alive was the awesome mods. Then the same with battlefield vietnam and battlefield 2. Then battlefield 3 and 4 ruined it, and everybody hates them. Mods allowed the original 1942 to play as: Forgotten Hope (a realism mod, but it tried to clumsily balance it and failed spectacularly imo) XWW2 (a more realistic realism mod) Vietnam Desert Combat Interstate '82 Everyone that hates mods is ultimately a consoler -they hate freedom. I remember Namalask and that crazy blood sucker from STALKER (which also required a ton of mods to add the guns necessary to flesh it out).

    Civilian semi-auto rifles

That's an AVT, not an AVS. (The AVS has a different muzzle brake and the stock extends past the wooden upper handguard) It's a 20 round AVT/SVT mag.

    Thoughts on Cannabis

Heart rate alone is no indication of a substance's ability to steady the nerves. http://www.ulster.ac.uk/scienceinsociety/drugsinsport.html The idea was not to make the character actually winded, but to simulate the effects of couch lock, not allowing them to run... (but maybe allowing them to sprint?) to simulate the perceived heaviness of things.

    Thoughts on Cannabis

Alcohol and weed do reduce sway. Consider the effects of depressants on your nervous system. As I said, you'd get a similar effect from beta blockers, but also benzos, and just other tranquilizers in general. But they should all induce a sort of "winded" status. Another interesting effect could be written text letting the player know that someone was smoking in the area. It could be a dead give away and lead to it not be over used by snipers. Another fun thought: it could be used to drive away the strigoi in case the dead, "hidden ones", or cthulhu try to reclaim the earth.

    Thoughts on Cannabis

I was thinking, the effects of cannabis should reflect as it is. As such, I feel the most important feature this could add would be a way to removed the stuffed status. Further use could lead to a sort "winded state", which might persist for a few minutes (to attempt to replicate couch lock). Another fun feature could be very subtle phantom music or talking. I don't feel as though it should make you hungry, as the use of cannabis, to my knowledge, doesn't rapidly lower your body's energy reserves. (I'm trying to say being hungry in real life and being hungry in game mean two very different things. In real life, hunger is a feeling. In game, hunger is almost like a fat reserve measurement) Perhaps it could also reduce sway? (This is the reason it's banned in the olympics, along with alcohol and unnecessary beta blockers). Also, perhaps further use could lead to seeing "shadow creatures" in the corners of your vision? Not to mention, it could be a source to craft (undyed?) rope?

[BREAKING NEWS] PC Gaming Show: Brian Hicks

To make this single player and lan play more attractive, perhaps players could keep the same character across single player, lan, and even 3rd and 1st person servers. To counter the lack of characters, perhaps each steam account could have 3 characters? This would allow, in the event of no servers for whatever reason, allow players to build up their characters between lan parties and such. And allow characters to such parties or wanting to explore to have the luxury of already having their gear.
