Mukaparska

DayZ has become empty and boring

Recommended Posts

No, I'm upset because there's not these random and funny events and encounters happening anymore. Or there is, but extremely rarely. For example Mukaparska runs to a guy and the guy tries to kill him and Mukaparska runs and encounters another guy who kills the other one and then someone shoots us both. Also, ctie I've seen at least some activity are Berezino and the old NE town I never remember. I actually had two of my most recent encounters there, both were bambis.

Oh, they are happening, just not where you are. Move out, live a little.

Not seeing a player for a while is what makes your heart pound when you finally do.

It doesn't anymore because I'm just delighted I see at least someone. Well, it might be that I've just become more calm person, since before I got very nervous. I had a long break I didn't play DayZ at all.

That doesn't change the fact it has become extremely boring. It's actually developer's fault for releasing their games in pre-alpha state. I hope the trend will go away in the next few years.

Oh JESUS.

Did the Devs hold a gun to your head or a knife to your throat, and say to you ,"Buy this early-access alpha or die"?

No? Then it is your own damn fault for buying into something you apparently aren't ready for.

Because I just tested it. If everyone are running in circle, no one can find anyone, but if I'll stop, someone will eventually run at me. Well, they didn't.

You stopped at a point where most people won't go.

There are 300 people in a building with 4 bathrooms. Instead of watching the bathrooms to see how many people are around you went into one of the back hallways and are watching the door to the janitors locker room and there are only 2 janitors in the building who only visit that room at the start and end of their shift.

I have been to Rify ONCE in the last 4 months. The reason for the visit was that my compass was bugged(known issue) and there was no one on so I was following a road for once instead of cutting inland. I must have slipped off something as my shoes were ruined(I think it was rubber banding during a server glitch) and I was near there when I was getting the messages that my feet hurt. I figured I could get some sort of not ruined footwear there and was right. Better than running another 2k with ruined shoes.

Otherwise there is not a whole lot that spawns there to interest people and the risk of falling or having to dodge bullets with risk of falling if someone else happens by while you are up there. It was an interesting sight to check out 8 months ago, but no one I know goes there now.

I try, I try a lot. I walk millions of miles and then finally I come here and make a thread how I can't find anything even remotely interesting. Well, I think I should go more south, I usually end up roaming around in the north.

Of course they didn't, but they neither finished their game and push out a finished product. If I'd wait till the game is ready, I would buy this in 2040, and still this game would be a buggy and unfinished game :D Also, this doesn't have much to do with the original subject. I have now wandered in the empty forests and villages of Chernarus for the last 6 months, and have had maybe five cool incidents. I have given this a lot of time, and occasionally complained here, but the situation doesn't seem to improve. I have my right to complain. Isn't that the whole purpose of pre-release crap? People complain and devs listen and fix the problem. That's the only good thing in pre-released games.

What happens when the devs stop adding new areas? I believe players will start playing another game because "duhh, all dem places are boring and seen SOO many tiems"

I'm seeing people every 10 minutes because I stay at the south coast. Most people are either in cherno/elektro/balota so get yourself some beans and head south

Muka!

Last I heard, the Devs were saying that this game will be entering beta around the end of 2015. Of course, plans could change, but one should note that this is actually a pretty good timeline. I was hesitant at the idea of Early Access (and seeing other games take this route and how they end up has not helped), but after a year I feel confident in saying that these guys are doing their jobs right and you don't know what you're talking about.

I do agree with one point though: encounters, friendly or not, seem rarer and rarer. Bumping the possible player cap to 50 has helped a lot. Of course, as they add more to the map, one must roam farther and farther in a given day if you wish to meet anyone. Human interaction, of course, is the heart of DayZ, so one can understand how you'd be upset.

That being said, you pretty much answered your own question in your first post: "I guess people are so excited about these trucks and helicopter crashsites they're all just trying to find them along with other military gear."

Here in North America we have a saying for just such an occasion, and I'm glad to be able to share it with you in the spirit of multicultural, global learning and communication. I hope learning this phrase will help enrich your understanding of other cultures! The phrase is: "No shit, Sherlock."

If you want to find people, go to where the people are.

Of course, I've tried, and I still find encounters less and less frequently. Somewhat disheartening. And your thread appears to have awoken some personality disorders, judging by some of the harsh responses you've already got. That being said, you really did answer your own question in your first post, which kind of makes it look like you're using this forum as your own whiny blog instead of the communication device and community it's meant to be. But that's fine, just don't expect a warm reception after. =p

As you've no mod experience, I'll share some of mine: nobody goes to the coast unless they have to. In the mod, all the cool cats head North and West at the soonest opportunity. All the cool shit is, traditionally, in the NW. The SA is now starting to mirror this from the mod. When I played the mod, I only ever had two reasons to head anywhere near the coast:

1. Vehicle parts/tools. Toolboxes, engines, and the such just seemed more plentiful in Cherno and Elektro than anywhere else. As the SA does not currently have full vehicle maintenance and none of the spawns are anywhere near the coast, this possibility is obviated.
2. To kill bambis. I mean, sure, you could be nice, maybe head down and give them some food and a ride somewhere more interesting. But with the noise that vehicles caused, that was pretty much a death sentence for them anyway, unless you stuck around to defend them, too. Or gave them a gun, but that just seems like suicide. But since coastal spawns are no longer all the rage, this possibility is also obviated.

So put on your hiking shoes and get ready to experience the world's most immersive jogging simulator. You can ask Steam for a refund, complain to anyone who will listen, or tighten your belt and try harder. Steam really doesn't like refunds, and pretty much nobody is listening, but it's still your choice.

And really, DayZ is a game about choices.

mate, you need a clan, and a clan with a sense of humor & able to troll, prank and have fun with. The fun is what YOU make it & if you just run around and try to shoot people on your own, then you are the problem, not the game

Between your admission that you camped Rify for 45 minutes, and your signature which states "Closing doors behind me after looting to give people false hope," I'm sure you can understand why some people would assume you're a bandit.

The game so far has only PvP value IMHO. Zombies are only a threat for a fresh spawned newbies. Other than that zombies are a nuisance and just annoyance, they get ignored most of the time despite the fact that DayZ was apparently meant to be a zombie related game.

No one is scared of zombies (I mean, infected), they are a joke. Hopefully this will be fixed eventually.

I have seen more than once when devs say this and that and their game will be delayed a lot. It seems like in early access games, people find the excitement from waiting the new stuff in new patches, instead of the stuff that already exist. Few years ago we had nothing like that. We had no early access games. Then came Minecraft. There should not be "new stuff" in the first place. There should be the same big amount of stuff in the first place, and they are the tool to find the excitement. Not the source of it.

Yeah, I use this forum as a trash can where I complain for things that I've had enough. I mean, there's nothing else I can do really. Not that it would help either. I also honestly believed people play this game like I do, using the whole map, and not just the new parts, so it was just a guess. I also don't really even know where people are. I guess they're all in NWAF when all the cities are empty. Well, at least in the North and the last time I visited South. I also thought people take this more as a survival game, and not slow paced deathmatch like the mod evolved to. Personally only very few times I've had a friendly encounter with an armed player. When I have a gun, I don't want someone to steal it, and of course I'm more paranoid towards others. So are they. When everyone had hammers, it wasn't like that. Most people don't want to risk it and immediately shoot if they see another armed player.

It's not the "new places" it's the, "Wow, that is a really picky climb out in the open for loot that spawns just as frequently elsewhere." That location has a ton of things that make it not a good location to go.

1. Have to maneuver through a vertical maze in a game where lag can cause broken legs/death.

2. Wide Open with good sniper positions overlooking it.

3. Landmark - meaning people will be drawn to look at it thus more likely to notice you.

4. One way in and out with no retreat. Seriously one "entrance" to cover and the ocean surrounding it.

5. Loot that isn't significant or unique.

Well you did say that after waiting for who knows how long in Novo, you blasted the first guy you saw at the town hall. (Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing though.) Anyway I've been running into people fairly consistently in the NW along with Cherno/Elektro (for DayZ anyway, I usually avoid heavily populated areas).

That would be why people are not going to a deathtrap location like Rify.

They removed the neaf. Obviously you'll see less people at rify. If you want to snipe a steady stream of people go to cherno/balota.

Muka does have a point, though. Social interaction in DayZ has gone waaaaay downhill recently. I can't remember the last time I had an interesting encounter in DayZ. Now it is either people trying to kill me or someone offering me food and then running away because they think I will kill them. To be honest, I had the same problem in Mod (only with worse griefing and hacking)... but I kinda' thought SA would be different.

I kinda' thought SA would be different.

Well, it is and it isn't. At the very start, first few months after Early Access availability, I had a lot of social interactions. They were fun, and sometimes interesting.

Then they became less and less common. I even joined a roleplaying clan in the hopes of finding more of that, but it didn't work out very well at all.

I think the KoS mentality, which definitely followed the SA from the mod, took its toll - now people are paranoid when they play this game, avoid major cities and routes. Interactions are less frequent and more unexpected when they do arrive, if at all.

On the bright side, I think these sorts of things very probably come in cycles, and we'll see a slow move back toward social interaction and less shooting over the coming months - the increase of different kinds of guns and ammo, and therefore the added complexity involved in actually killing someone, will probably help that (and don't even bother discussing melee weapons and how they play into that; with the current movespeed, it's effectively impossible to kill an aware player with a melee weapon unless they make a gigantic mistake).

But then it'll cycle back to paranoia and death. And then back again. At least, that's what I think. I suppose we'll see.

Try and play a little less OP, iv been very very good with this alpha...I think im still under 100hrs. Even the mod can get stale if you play it a lot, and theres a lot more to do there. Rationing how much dayz you give yourself can keep it fresh :)

Imagine when theres a lot more vehicles, then you will see people more often. When they add helis you might hear it every hour or so and be able to try and track it, or hear a car pull up and set an ambush. Theres just so much missing from SA that makes Dayz. Think about when zombies are enough to keep you on your toes all the time, maybe its just a bit of alpha burnout :)

the game seems to have trouble supporting its features when the population gets above about 20 on the server. The map really needs a population of 40-50 to make it so everywhere you go you have to be careful.

I really want to believe this is true but I play on Experimental. In my (extremely subjective) opinion as loot goes down, murderous intentions increase. I had way more interesting encounters when everyone had an M4.
