It's 7.62X54r not "7.62"

Recommended Posts

Nuggets or Mosin Nagants take 7.62X54r rounds. 7.62 ammo can mean 7.62X39, 7.62X51 Nato(which can also take .308 rounds but thats another topic", 7.62X25 for the tokarev. Those are just off the top of my head. Standard 7.62 rounds just messes with my autism. (Sarcasm)

7.62x51mm= should be .308

7.62x54r= 7.62 Russian or just 7.62x54r

7.62x39mm= 7.62x39mm

just bullets in the scheme of things.

After much outcry they made 5.45 aswell as 5.56, can we not just have the same for 7.62x54 [can be used by SVD, Mosin, PKMS, and some other eatern hunting rifles they may decide to add] and 7.62 NATO for any 7.62 nato stuff they add or .308 rifles.

Agreed. Also the ammo should look like this:

Not brass cased like it is in game. Russians rarely use brass in their small arms ammunition. I really doubt the locals were spending $20 USD in Chernorussian currency on 20 rounds of brass cased 7.62x54R for their Mosin Nagants when they boarder a country which sells 400 round cans of surplus for less than $100 USD.

But 7.62X51 is a larger bullet than the .308 but they have nearly identical casing. Its like the 5.56 and the .223. You can use .223 in a 5.56 ar but if you use 5.56 in a .223 ar it can go kaboom

Couldn't possibly care less. However, if it's a simple case of changing it from 7.62 to 7.62x55rb6bangboomshootyshoot then I have no problem with it. Not interested in more ammo types, however. I'd like at least 2 guns to each ammo type, unless there's something specialist like a fancy sniper rifle or a light machine gun.

But yeah, provided all bullets either look distinct from one another or have reasonably distinct names then fine. I think the devs have done a decent job of that so far.

Not even then. Or more excactly: Especially not then. It wouldn't be good if of all the weapons the fancy sniper rifle was the one not competing for ammo. Thats why I would rather like to see see .50 BMG than .338 Lapua Magnum.

I heard something about splitting 7.62x54mmR and 7.62x51mm in the future. Maybe when the FN FAL and the SVD are released.

exactly. Lapua Magnum rounds are 8 dollars a bullet. Not cheap stuff, its starting to come on the civilian market but there are better options for flat shooting knockout rounds ie .270 Winchester.

Well I suppose the point is that it would be silly to, I don't know, have a sniper rifle and a pistol or something share the same ammo. If the ammo is really common then people who have the sniper rifle are going to be laughing. If it's really rare then people won't be able to use some poxy pistol. Now, if a sniper happens to share ammo with a weapon of a similar level like, I don't know, some DMR or something then fine, it should be rare, but if it shares ammo with a machine gun then people are either going to have way too much sniper ammo or people are going to be scraping together a handful rounds for their mg.

Bear in mind that I have no idea what the difference between .50 BMG and .338 Lapua Magnum. I have a vague inkling that .50 BMG is probably used in .50 calibre sniper rifles and .338 is used in that one Counter-Strike sniper, but besides that I have no idea what the difference is or why one would be preferred over the other. If I had to guess then I'd say that .50 is used in more rifles while .338 is used in only a couple (pertaining to your point). But, again, I have absolutely no understanding of the difference between them. That goes for all bullets. What the difference between 7.62x54mmr or whatever and 7.62x39mm is I have no idea.

For our purposes the "MG" part is most important. .50 BMG is basically an anti-materiel round allowing for both sniper rifles and heavy machine guns while .338 Lapua Magnum is a dedicated sniper round.

Maybe everything should be just renamed to "bullets"?

Send this up the chain immediately.

Gear down you two, that's only one part of the cartridge.

Anyways, it has always irritated me. There are three very clear differences between the two

Now, it'd please me greatly if someone would take the five minutes to rename it to what it should be called, hint hint. <3

Really? This is going to degrade into bullet cost determining if its a viable option for loot now?

Absolutely cost and more importantly plausibility should be of utmost importance when considering weapons and calibers.

.338 lapua would be downright idiotic considering the setting.

Plausibility fine, I get that but don't tell me that cost should determine anything if its a round that would be common in local military and would be plentiful.  I'm not arguing any specific round here, I am very unfamiliar with that area of the world aside from what DayZ has taught me and have no idea what would be plentiful there.  Just saying cost should be 0 factor, money means nothing after an apocalyptic event right?
