Weyland Yutani (DayZ) 1159 Posted November 20, 2014 I see a lot of these shipping containers and thought it would be a nice touch if they were lockable (with a lock) so they could be lived in. Maybe an option to put a hole in the roof for oxygen.

nettles 396 Posted November 20, 2014 I would actually really like to try this. Especially if there were functioning cranes or heavy machines you could use to lift or scoot your little home around.
caik 122 Posted November 20, 2014 I think thisis a god idea, especially being able to move the shipping containers. Single or double trailer lorry with a HIAB crane (too much? Trolling would obviously occur), you would be able to stack them, to keep the living/storage one out of harms way. I would hide my tainer at a port. Regards, Craig. Weyland Yutani (DayZ) 1159 Posted November 20, 2014 Good idea about moving them around. Maybe then one could connect a series of them for a base of sorts. I'm thinking welding will be in-game at some point and one could cut a hole in the side to make a 'T' shape for corridors to run into.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Lol, at wanting to move shipping containers. Sorry but that's funny. Living in them sounds feasible but tell me where are going to get a crane with the proper wire rope and fittings to attach to the container for transport? Draco122 412 Posted November 20, 2014 I don't like the idea of moving them, simply because I think most of the cranes in Chernarus are devoid of any power if they even work and it would be kind of pointless as well. As for living in them, I could see it happening
blunce 991 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Seems feasible Shipping Container Homes I do like the idea. I'm not opposed to being able to move them, but what possible in-game design could allow us to do it? As Caboose said, you need heavy machinery to move the thing. I definitely like the idea of using it as shelter -- Customizing it with locks & maybe even possibly treating it as a persistent storage unit like tents. +1 to that. But I can't really think of a way that people would be able to move them without the use of heavy machinery. Can they be dismantled? This is the only way I can see it working if you transported it piece by piece via truck. Edited November 20, 2014 by blunce
rybec 339 Posted November 21, 2014 Can they be dismantled? This is the only way I can see it working if you transported it piece by piece via truck. They're large welded and bolted containers. You're unable to dismantle it without cutting it up.
bobotype3334 160 Posted November 22, 2014 I like the idea of going into them a lot. Sounds comfy. You probably wouldn't need to put air holes, they're not airtight around the seams right? But just being able to go inside them would be a good gameplay addition. We don't need to think about moving them though, leave them static, imagine every shipping container in the map being a physics prop
