The amount of players.

Why don't we've 100+ player servers, because the map is huge and easy to hide?

No, there have been 100 servers earlier on I believe, and they were testing up to 75 on experimental again as of maybe 4 months ago. The max for Stable servers was just upped from 40-50. In the end, as I understand it - there were limitations and performance issues which are in the process of being addressed by things such as moving from 32 bit to 64 bit on the server side along with engine updates and tuning. This is a game that's in early access alpha, it's not done yet.

I was on one of those 100 person servers a couple of times last spring (I think it was spring anyway) and the performance was beyond bad.

Once 64 bit servers are properly implemented, I hope the server cap is set to 160. I'm guessing 100 person servers will be the smoothest, but 150 people would be a sight to behold

Because everybody spawns in the same general area and because the loot respawn system isn't ironed out well enough to support that many people all looting at once.

Not to mention that it turns the game from being an apocalypse to just a run of the mill shooter with looting.

They have already moved to 64 bit servers it may not be completely tweaked the way they want it . Personally i think that many players in this game would take it from an apoc survival game to bf4 with a larger map and looting (with a couple of zeds in the background because thats all they will be able to add because all the server performance will be eaten up by the players all clamouring in to play pew pew in berezino..

 

Id prefer they use server performance to get a smooth running game with ALOT more zeds/infected and maybe 50 60 players tops but then thats because i want to play a zed apoc survival game not another deathmatch game hmm i wonder what the game was advertised as???

Server performance tends to go up and down between versions. A few updates ago the server performance seemed really good, items would snap into inventory instantly, throwing items worked well and smoothly and there was very little lag. Now, its the opposite, a lot of lag, throwing items is incredibly jerky and broken, and inventory drag and drop is slow and often just plain doesnt work.

 

Also another server related thing which has been broken forever is the "quick action" buttons. I can press "2" or whatever key to bring out my axe and it rarely works, or if it does work its massively delayed, or does a bring out and put away animation several times, because I have hit the key 3-4 times in frustration, usually whilst stood still getting my ass handed to me by a zombie.
