I feel bad, even if I shouldn't

Recommended Posts

This is a story I have to tell.

So  after I got separated from my friends after getting a character reset, I didn't really have much. I spawned in Solnich, looted it then ran to elektro with just food and a 1911 (with no ammo)

In elektro I looted a few houses for food then rushed to the fire station to see what I could snatch. I got myself a fireaxe and a first aid kit, I then walked outside and there was a fully looted guy logged in. I went back into the firestation and asked if he was friendly, he said he was. I wasn't so sure so I opened the door and looked out (with nothing in my hands) and he pulled out a shotgun from his backpack and open fired. He missed (don't ask me how). I thought to myself "ehh, I really have nothing to lose." so I rushed out with a fireaxe and knocked him out, took his m4, and killed him.

For some reason, even though he was a bandit I feel really bad.

This is what I got from him.

Since late 0.49 / early 0.5 is the first i've played since around march, this is my first m4 since then.

There were also 3 more magazines but I didn't screenshot them.

You killed a liar, that classifies it as a guilt free act of self defense in my opinion. Good job, buddy.

You really shouldn't feel guilty.  You have a nice weapon there.  Many players would be envious.  Carry on!

Don't feel bad about killing someone who shot at you first. He got what he deserved.

first off good story and i hope to read more. second thats why i love this game the emotions it can bring up even if your usually a cold as ice asshole in RL which i most certainly am. but in game i'm usually nice and friendly/non hostile i tried being a bandit/scumbag murderer and i would hold folks up then when it came time to be mean me and my friend would just fix there clothes give them food water then tell them to have a nice day and run off, i shot a guy a NWAF once broke his leg we run up to him to finish him off and he says he's lost and its his first day playing talked about getting kos'd and everyones a bandit and such. i believed he was telling the truth because he knew none of the controls at all and somehow ended up at NWAF lol so i bandaged him and fixed his leg gave him directions and food water and laid a key to the cuffs in front told him to count to 100 then he was free. i watched from the tree line to make sure he could get away and followed him a ways to make sure he was ok. thats why i love dayz by the way if you need ammo for your rifle i have found a lot of it the mil base near myshinko has lots of ammo and mil clothing spawns and no-one usually goes there. no rifles or weapons really spawn seen a makarov the other day but that pistol does more damage if you throw it at something than shooting it probably.

Good job.

You know what I rather? I rather people KoS me than saying they are friendly and then shooting me in the face.

If one says they are friendly and take their weapon out right infront to your face, or if they had their weapon out and started aiming, they are indeed hostile.

No need to PTSD this, you did the right thing, besides, it was his Karma that got him, not you if you really think about it.  Good on ya!

As far as guilt goes, you did what you HAD to do to stay alive.  If he had reloaded his weapon, he would have no doubt fired at you again.  In that situation, you can either feel guilty, or you can feel dead.  I'd rather take the first option, personally.  It's never fun killing someone if it's not your normal playstyle, but sometimes you have to do it if you want to avoid the void.

Shouldn't? There is no should, or shouldn't; you merely feel what you feel,  for feelings just are.

You should walk proud after this one. Not only did you survive someone who tried to pull a quick one on you, you got some decent gear. Karma's a bitch, you came out on top!

Now go forth onto the world and do your best to keep surviving...
