Brimstone99 18 Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) How many cows have to die for this? I put the steak on the cooking stove and pot. they go from raw to burnt instantly. How do you cook? Edited October 22, 2014 by Brimstone99
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted October 22, 2014 Patience and observation is the key to good steak, you need to take them away from the heat when the color changes properly.
escobert 112 Posted October 22, 2014 I have yet to get a cooking pot ad propane set up to cook correctly. Just cook them on an open fire.
Abram_ 40 Posted October 22, 2014 Unwatched meat gets burnt. Just like real life. Though sometimes they take longer than real steaks do. They must be thick cuts.

Bad Company 140 Posted October 22, 2014 Have you tried NOT using a plasma-cutter to heat it? ... and how instant is "instantly"?
Red_Ensign 990 Posted October 22, 2014 put 5 steaks meat in the pot. remove the one on the far left and cook. when they become cooked steaks they move left into the empty spot. that should help if you have trouble seeing when they're done.
witzbuch 2 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) It is a known bug in the current stable (don't know if they fixed it in .50 EXP) that the gas stove + cooking pot doesn't work, there is no cooked phase, it goes directly from raw to burnt. Cooking on a fire works fine though http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=12061 Edited October 22, 2014 by witzbuch

BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted October 22, 2014 Gas stoves doesn't seem to be able to produce "cooked" meat in the game, only "burnt". Sometimes there is a problem with fireplaces as well, where it will take forever for them to cook. I mean, it is steaks we are talking about here, they shouldnt take 15 minutes to cook, unless you like your steak so thoroughly cooked that they can be used as shoe soles.
CJFlint 357 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) They need to fix the gas stove. Its not working correctly ATM. It has no use right now at all, can't cook with it unless you like burnt meat, can't use it to stay warm. Hopfully this will change soon. Use a fire place kit and carry at least a log with you, that way you don't have to chop a tree down every time you have to cook or get warm, ruining your axe (another thing that needs some fxing or tweaking). With the fire place kit it just takes a few min to cook the stakes. What I'm finding out, is surviving off of meat is more is not as realible as I would like. You really have to have allot of it. I would advise having cans of food or bags of rice as a back up. I would also advise keeping the cooking pot, it takes only 4 slots, and I believe it carrys six peices of meat. Not a bad way to save space if you hunt. Edited October 22, 2014 by CJFlint
Judopunch 523 Posted October 23, 2014 Patience and observation is the key to good steak, you need to take them away from the heat when the color changes properly. That and the gas stove is bugged right now. Try just using a fireplace instead.
muddyraccoon 176 Posted October 23, 2014 and how does one prepare the finest potatoes? One doesn't. The finest potato prepares itself. Also, I know this is the apocalypse or whatever, but do the right thing. Always let steak rest after cooking. Don't ruin your meat.
Evil Minion 943 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) It is a known bug in the current stable (don't know if they fixed it in .50 EXP) that the gas stove + cooking pot doesn't work, there is no cooked phase, it goes directly from raw to burnt.Gas Stove + Frying Pan is still bugged on .50 so I don't expect the pot to work. So the only use is burning meat - which has its use only because burned meat is at least less dangerous than raw meat. Still a fire is much better and consists of stuff vastly more useful otherwise.
