KaptainHD 0 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Well I need some help guys because ive played dayz for like 105 hours and im getting the hang of things, but whenever I get geared im always scared that something going to happen to me so I wait for my buddy to come on. Like some kid is going to come up behind me and just kill me or some KOS noob will shoot me with a shotgun, usually im on with my buddy and we ALWAYS travel to NW Airfield and get fully geared there on low pop servers. Then once we hop to a high pop server we can hardly find anyone to help or get our selves into a fire fight instead of getting 1 shotted but whenever ive got like a gun and hardly no ammo, some 6 slot pants and melee weapon im always excited to go on but I go onto full pop servers like Toxic House Clan (THC) and that has 30-40 people on at all times. And no matter where I go I either die from a bunch of KOS pricks or find no one, and if I do and they don't kill me they always find a way too for example, I was at that town under Nova I think its called Polina or something with the fire station and went on top of the fire station and scouted the area, at the time I had a mosin with 20 rounds and a shotgun with like 30 rounds, I had to carry the shotgun in my hands with the mosin in my back and I couldn't be fucked dropping it then picking it up every time I drank, or ate something so I hid it and forgot to take the ammo out. Then some fresh spawn comes next to me once running back from placing the shotgun down and he loots where I came back out of, he said there was a guy around here and then he picks up the shotgun (what I was thinking he did) and I saw him to to run behind me so I pulled out my mosin and I died, also I know youtubers get lots of loot with groups of themselves and also by themselves, but like there so good at the game, they know how to get into a fair fight (even if they die) and there in massive cities like elek, novo, beren, cherno all that and they get maxed out. Like can I have some looting tips too please. Its came to the point where I don't trust anyone, even my friend said I set him up when clearly his Battle eye client stopped working and he had flopped on the floor and died (it said he was kicked in the chat box thingy) so then he gets this 12vie to kill me and play it off like it was a bunch of bandits when I saw them killing me. So yea I know im going abit over kill with all this ^^^^^^^^^^^ but I really need some help because I just get killed and killed. PS, one time I had a sporter and a coat with no ammo and some guy came up to me fully geared with a pistol, saying put your gun down, so I layed down and put my gun down and he fucking shoots me like WTF PLEASE HELP NOW ASAP Edited October 12, 2014 by KaptainHD

ryanh 36 Posted October 12, 2014 What your asking for is Dayz instinct you'll either aquire that yourself or you can find a more experienced player and run with them, using voice coms outside of game is important, also if you roll with someone make sure someones leading, and giving orders, So you are Organized and efficient
call him Steve 46 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Stay away from everyone & everything! Find a tent in Cherno apartment buildings (tall getto style with a ladder to get in), put it some where safe, and stock up on books to read. PS Good job on spacing the post out, and making complete sentences. Edited October 12, 2014 by call him Steve
Red_Ensign 990 Posted October 12, 2014 you kind of answered your own question. high pop servers have more kos jerks and low pop servers have less. decide what you want to do in the game and choose accordingly.
qwer4790 26 Posted October 12, 2014 Find everything you need without getting lost in forest, kill everyone you can without being killed, and don't drink alcohol and disinfection spray, lol.
CANUCKinNZ 108 Posted October 13, 2014 It seems like in your post it's just PVP strategy you're lacking. Stay off main roads, run along edges of buildings and along sidewalks, scout main buildings and outskirts before you enter and don't get attached to your gear. You will die lots right now. Sometimes you'll know why and sometimes you won't. I hope this will change in the future with some sort of honour system but for now that's the game. Good luck! lrp1984 199 Posted October 13, 2014 My first bit of advice if you want a more fun game is to stop going to NW airfield on low population servers to loot gear. If you're doing this with a friend you'll find yourself spending hours going between servers, running around the same area, being disappointed that you didn't find the magazine or AK you wanted, and then looking at the 60 second spawn/please wait message, as you try just one more server. Before you know it you've spent a whole night just to get camo gear and an AK/ammo each. Because you've repeated the same action over and over in a tedious and unfun way to get that gear you grow more attached to it, and therefore death is a bigger pain because you know you have to do the boring stuff again. The other downside of doing this is you look like a threat (even though you've got little actual combat experience from the low population servers), so 50% of people will KOS and the rest will run away at the first sight of you. You say you never see anyone, but I'm willing to bet plenty of people see you and your friend running around with assault rifles looking like bandits and take cover. The SKS is just as effective as any assault rifle and a lot easier to find, so stick to that.
Mookie (original) 799 Posted October 13, 2014 Much good advice here. If you spawn on the coast, go inland on a low pop server. Find a piano house or a police station via this map: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus. There you will find at least some clothing and loot to get you started. As a rule, the further north and west you go, the fewer the zombies will be. Prioritise the acquisition of:Reasonably warm clothingFood, and something to open cans with (screwdriver, etc)Melee weapon, preferably an axe or (at least) a baseball batAnything you can find to drink, including sodasThen, when you're not starving, dehydrated or freezing to death, go looking for a gun and some ammo. An SKS is just fine. Then consider checking military locations for better clothing and better loot, but be prepared to die again once you get there... It's harder to get started than it used to be. You will probably die once or more before it starts to work out. If you find yourself in your underwear near a bridge, don't worry. In fact it's a good thing - almost the jackpot of spawns - because you are just yards from a piano house and five minutes away from some prime loot locations.
CJFlint 357 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) Gear up on low pop. PvP on high pops...simple. Your putting your self in a really bad position playing on a high pop, poorly geared. On top of that your going into areas were people high pvp traffic. Unless your an instant gradifaction pvper who just wants a quick thrill then die. Otherwise Its lose lose. So gear up on light servers. You may still run into people, but it will not be a group. If its just one person there def not as hard to deal with. Keep your alert level high even on low pops. If your looting military spawns, there is still a chance you will run into someone. They are on that server for the same reason. With your alert high, they maybe being careless becuase its low pop. Then you get to take the shot 1st. I try to always have my guard up no matter what. Onto the high pops. When you get geared up and have plenty everything you need and decide to venture to the high pops. Stay out of towns and military spawns unless you have biz there. Like looting, or your looking for pvp. If your looting, do it quickly in and out! Theres nothing but trouble there on high pops, so only go there to if your looking for it. When you do decide to pvp with the intant of getting into some action, pick your battles and have a plan. YOU decide were you want pvp and how your going to do it. Think about it. People are dicks who play DayZ...they really are. Unless you know them on TS, clan mates or steam freinds. Its a fact. I know this through learning the hard way. About 85% of player I meet randomly are hostile. I don't even bother using prox voice any more. Its like hunger games. Your better off just helping your self, and who ever your freinds with. It sucks but its true. I hate to say it freindly dosn't pay in the stand alone. Just the way this game is. The devs did a pretty good job making the DayZ on a high pop a vary dangerous unfreindly virtual world and creating a prefect storm for KOSing or player just being complete dicks to each other. Its by design. Edited October 13, 2014 by CJFlint
ChainReactor 922 Posted October 13, 2014 Protip: Take it easy. I suck at DayZ as well, but it holds loads of fun anyway. :)

Good luck!I wonder if some sort of "honour system" is in the works. Even ratings or badges for things you do in game. Right now it seems there not much insentive to be freindly in game, basiclly a nasty world were you can trust no one. Unless you make contact with players just for pure entertainment. I guess its a question of if they added honor mechanics, would it ruin the desperate post apoc feel of the game. Not really sure, unless they add it.
