Tatanko 5591 Posted October 8, 2014 So an interesting set of circumstances left my friend unconscious for 30+ minutes last night while playing 0.50 Experimental. He went unconscious, we walked away for a while to go get some food IRL, and then came back to find him still unconscious but not dead. Here are the circumstances: he was dark green energized, but was red thirsty (dying of dehydration). Just as he found an 80% full canteen and drank it, he passed out... but it did in fact complete the drinking process prior to him going unconscious (it said so). He wasn't bleeding, but he was pretty low on blood. Under these circumstances, will a player remain unconscious -- but alive -- indefinitely? I know what it would take for him to revive on his own (good health, not bleeding, etc.) and I know what it would take to get him awake and back into good health were I to rescue him. I'm just curious as to whether or not a character facing these circumstances can remain in a "coma", if you will, until they are rescued, The main reason for my curiosity is actually this: when you're unconscious, does your character not consume resources (water and energy)? That's the only explanation I have for someone being able to remain unconscious for such a long time. Either that, or the consumption is so low that it's almost negligible. This would be particularly true in the build of 0.50 we were playing, where the energy and water consumption is jacked way up.
StarLord (DayZ) 39 Posted October 8, 2014 In a distant land known as a .49 server Not too long along my player was energized and hydrated, but bleeding and without rags. I managed to find a shirtto rip into rags, but fell unconscious maybe 15 seconds after I applied them. I checked the time because I had heardabout long unconscious waits. Sat back, windowed the game, and watched Netflix while keeping an eye on my status.Low and behold I had made it through about 3/4 of an episode of Dexter before getting fed up and respawning. Respawned, super pissed, gave it a few buildings worth of loot and went to bed.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted October 8, 2014 LOL it should say, "You are in a coma" rather than "You are unconscious".

I was on the other end of the map so I wasn't going to be able to revive him anytime soon :p
Sleeves 98 Posted October 8, 2014 He probably accumulated enough food to enter a state of hibernation. A little early in my opinion as fall has just begun, but to each his own.
igottapi4 1 Posted October 8, 2014 I once got hit by by a Z and got unconscious, I wanted to start fresh so I let it happened. The funny thing is that my character got up again for a few seconds and then died. Never had that happened before. But I would imaging that depending why you are unconscious it could be a while. I've just never encountered a situation where someone remained unconscious for sooooooo long and was curious what anyone else's experience might have been. I've heard of even longer waits than what my friend was able to stand, but it seems that ultimately, every story I read ends with, "I got impatient and respawned." Paging Dr. Guppy the DayZ Medic...
General Zod 1118 Posted October 8, 2014 You're in limbo. You went too deep.
sachad 1016 Posted October 8, 2014 Too much blood loss. I had that happen to me. Got KOd by a zombie, got an epi from my buddy, stumbled another 5 feet and then collapsed again. I respawned after 45 minutes.
Killawife 599 Posted October 9, 2014 Your blood level is low, so when you get hit your shock level makes you unconscious and since you can't regnerate your shock level when blood is very low(under 500), you will never wake up unless someone gives you saline or blood. I saw it on one of Wobo's guides. Basically if you haven't woken up in five minutes you never will.

Sleeves 98 Posted October 9, 2014 ...but will you eventually die? That's what I really want to know. The wiki says that you can keep taking blood from someone by a blood bag and it will not kill them, which I later found out was a crock of shit. Honestly I would not trust the wiki, or anyone else for that matter on how health/blood works. They are both separate entities sure, but going too low in either seems to kill you. If you give another player the wrong blood group, he dies shortly after. In real life the blood thickens.
foxdie_01 121 Posted October 9, 2014 dying of dehydration causes you to fall unconsicous indeffinately. Unless you got a firend to IV you there's no cure other than a respawn. Learn't this the hard way, that bag of rice sounded like a good idea at the time!
Sleeves 98 Posted October 9, 2014 Ah, I remember a friend telling me that happened when he downed an entire pack of powdered milk.

Seems like a waste of effort. It would appear that as long as you are safe, not bleeding, and not dying of anything (red status indicator), you could potentially lay unconscious forever until either something external kills you (another player) or until you are rescued... or give up and hit respawn. Sleeves 98 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) I thought someone said being super thirsty makes you pass out and the only cure was saline bags. Edited October 9, 2014 by Sleeves
Tatanko 5591 Posted October 9, 2014 I thought someone said being super thirsty makes you pass out and the only cure was saline bags.Could very well be. I haven't had to rescue anyone in a while, but I imagine that would be the easiest way of getting them back up. Administer saline and essentially jump-start the character by massively improving their blood level in one go. Are you able to force feed water to unconscious players (I've never tried)? Tatanko 5591 Posted October 9, 2014 This video explains it pretty well i thinkHopefully everything in the video is still true and correct as of 0.50. Thanks! Yes you do have the option to force feed.
