Zombie Milkman 167 Posted October 8, 2014 This is one of those topics where most of the replies will be bullshit along the lines of "I would check them out, ask to sit next to the fire, run off and get some meat, carefully scope out the situation before alerting them in side chat etc".In reality? You, me, everybody in this thread and in the game will be thinking "free kill". If I see someone next to a fire I'll hang back until I'm reasonably certain they don't have friends, then I shoot them. Then I wait to see if their friends come along. Then I bug out in the other direction. I don't need to loot their kit, I have plenty of my own. I do however need to kill them. If I light a fire I make sure it's on an empty server because I fully expect the other players to do the same to me, and lights are visible for miles around.*Two reasons. (i) they're a potential threat (ii) there are few more effective ways of asserting your dominance than by killing someone, few more effective ways of surviving than by killing everybody else. Fewer targets to track, more loot for you. It simplifies things. "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have."* On a tangent, I remember the first few days of the standalone had street lights - do they still exist? In the mod you could light a fire, cook and boil your supplies, and extinguish the fire in less than a minute, in the standalone it seems you have to stand around for ages before your meat cooks / you heat up. No, just no.Wait, are you saying you server hop to light a fire? If so, how is that ok?
sachad 1016 Posted October 8, 2014 If you ask me, shooting a man from behind when he's unaware of your presence is anything but an assertion of dominance.
ebrim 998 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) I'd probably ask to get warm by the fire. Sure there's a significant risk but I think the chance that it works out it worth it. Edited October 8, 2014 by Ebrim
Sleeves 98 Posted October 8, 2014 Wait, are you saying you server hop to light a fire? If so, how is that ok?It is okay because it is not against the rules.
yazar8 584 Posted October 8, 2014 Why have a fireplace kit with you all the time? Just get yourself some spare clothes, you can put stuff in them too if you're concerned about the inventory space. Infact, I put a jacket to my spare pants and save the other 2 inventory spaces for other stuff.
Sleeves 98 Posted October 8, 2014 I hope a developer looked at that layering suggestion for clothes that was made awhile back.

Cptn_Miller 83 Posted October 8, 2014 Encountered this the other night, relatively new-spawn. Ran up to the fire, removed the wood and took the fireplace kit and ran off.this is priceless lol
karlkurtz32 59 Posted October 8, 2014 I've got into gunfights with people in the middle of butt fuck now where. There is always a chance someone will see you.Of course there is always a chance. Your chances are very much reduced being in the middle of nowhere though. No one has come across me by a fire yet.

But you take advantage of what the game gives you, don't you? Edited October 8, 2014 by Yazar8

q.S Sachiel 470 Posted October 8, 2014 Why carry the built fire kit when you can just carry a bunch of sticks and a stack of rags or a book. I'd reccomend the rags. that gets you at least 4x splint/fireplacekits. and it only takes up 3 slots rather than the 4/2 for fire/splint.
Zombie Milkman 167 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) It is okay because it is not against the rules.Ah, server hopper. I get it. I am not judging either, I just Don't see the fun in it. But that said the thermal mechanics are pretty bad at the moment so... Edited October 8, 2014 by Zombie Milkman
Zombie Milkman 167 Posted October 8, 2014 As an aside, I found that I could put fresh food and some other items, like a makharov clip , in the 6 slots of the fireplace kit. I can also attach the log to the kit in my backpack which reduces 14 slots to just 4.Question: is that an exploit?
surf_polar 110 Posted October 9, 2014 Why carry around sticks, firewood or a campfire with you when you can create the kit everywhere on the fly?Serverhopping to build a campfire. Lol. This is one of the silliest/most tryhard things I have seen on this forum.
Abram_ 40 Posted October 9, 2014 I had a fun of God luck trying to play as a non+bastard, but this last week full of fake-friendlies has made me very hesitant about helping players out. At the very least, i'd watch them from afar. If they stayed alone, i'd likely go up to them to offer food or shoot the shit. The Fire Kit may take 4 slots, but you can store anything you like in it that will fit. Oddly, keeping non-meat items within it while the fire is going will not damage the items.... Takes 4 slots, holds 5.I always keep one on hand. With .49, you can also reuse the log. Take it off to put the fire out, put the kit in your inventory, then add the log to it. Since they're so easy to make, i never mind losing it out leaving it for someone else. Do they ever burn out on their own? With the cold being difficult for some players, maybe I'll start leaving fires along the common corridors of travel...
JokersWarPig 16 Posted October 9, 2014 I would probably avoid them, but if they're all sitting down and not able to immediatly shoot back I'd open fire.
