There is a hero in dayz ?  Is this a mythical creature like ManBearPig? iv been hunting it in the hills to the north and been told if i eat enough mushrooms ill find it.. found lots of mushrooms but no mythical creatures... will keep an eye out for this new beast... Hero, its head will look good mounted on my cabin wall.

Then you had it in you to begin with.

After 9 months of playing I still will not kos someone and have only fired first when being approached showing hostile signals.

Well you must be pretty smart, i can control situations perfectly now so the decisions are all mine, sound like you have this gift. Unfortunately when i first started i wasn't so Controlling thus getting shot in the back a lot. But i don't know it seems like by the time i learned how to be a good hero i was already 3 months into being a bandit, i think that's what happens to most you know.

Wow, I have heard many self-righteous "hero" rants lately but this one by far exceeds any limit.

Sorry for being rude but this is ridiculous. Just shoot the player in the face, teabag him, have a laugh and move on...

It's these very same "Heroes" that will gun down anyone and cry wolf telling you he/she was a "Bandit" that either killed them before or one of their friends, I love these guys/gals though, you just want to cuddle them, and then promptly send them back to Carebear Island.

Oh I agree, that that's how most people end up going down the bandit road. It's just me, I can't even kill a fake cow in the game for no reason. If I don't need the meat I wont kill it. 90% of the time if I see someone I just hang back and let them do what they're doing and move along and I'll loot after they're gone. Most of the time they go along their business none the wiser. Once in a while they make the mistake of trying to leave right where I am watching from. They don't make it too close though.

Seems like nxz and a few others think theyre l33t scout snipers cause they can play Arma 4 Zomblife...

At least theyll be gone when survival gets tough, or at least freeze or starve.

Seriously, why the hell dont you people play Wasteland if you want to kill everything thay moves and half of what doesnt, then say that zombies and survival are hindering your "playstyle"?

The mantra for the rest of us.

If you are hungry, then I'll hear you eating and get my gun ready

If you are thirsty, then I'll hear you cracking open a Pipsi, and I'll get my gun ready

If you are cold, you'll take less shots to kill

If you are in need, ask, and I'll shoot you

If you are in trouble, it's because I found you

I do these things to be rewarded with your stuff

I do these things for fear you'll do the same to me first,

I don't care about what's right or wrong,

I set my own standards, and they keep me alive for longer

Taking vegetarianism to a new level?

I have no idea how people get such strong emotional responses from this game.

People carry their personal morals and ethics into games. I.E. your people who go that "hero" route often times are the people who are real world dependable.

You can see this in games like Fable. It's not an emotional response, more like a thought engrained into who they are, and it carries over into what they enjoy doing.

Where did I say I wouldn't eat meat? I said I wouldn't kill things needlessly...

I have no idea either, but the only games that cause me to jump when I hear nearby gunshots are this one and Insurgency. Even watching videos on youtube, I jump lol. But, I think that the game is extremely enjoyable due to the fact that it can make you feel like there is serious danger present, and can evoke such strong emotions, without ever having to be in any serious danger.

On topic, I "banditized" I guess only once. Snuck up on two people who had a campfire going in a deerstand, thought I dropped them both. I climbed up to take their loot, and one had stood back up. She (yes a she, I heard her voice), looked at me and said "Why... Why did you try to kill us?" Her words tore at my heart. Unfortunately, I couldn't let her live, not when she decided to pick up the mosin from her friend. I still feel sick about it to this day.

I know people make fun of the "hero" playstyle. Lol, I wouldn't call myself a hero anyway. I've held people up, I've killed people for disobeying my instructions, but I've only outright shot without warning once. In reality, all that matters is that if you choose to play the game, you enjoy it. I like the Hero mantra the OP posted. I also found the "everyone else" mantra posted later to be pretty funny.

I'm not sure what morals and ethics have to do with anything? This is a video game after all.

That is a sweeping generalisation, and to be honest in my own personal experience completely inaccurate. The nicest, dependable and straight up guys/girls I've known in real life have been the biggest assholes in games, and on the flip side of that the people I've known that play hero's in games tend to be the biggest assholes in real life.

How many of us have known someone that lectures you on how best to play a game, and how it should be played in a certain way and the whole time you're thinking 'I hate this guy' (if you don't know this person, it likely means it's you).

Well people like to be self-righteous, they like to feel better because of their moral code. And it's clearly visible here on this forum. Everyday we see "heroes" paint themselves to be good, trust worthy reliable people not only in game but also in real life while at the same time trying to make bandits and killers look as bad as possible.
