Randy_Pie 4 Posted September 29, 2014 First of all, I do know the Engine is being totally redone - also the sound engine. This is actually a good thing, because the devs can add great new features from the beginning. Like this one:I just recently found this ingame voice chat demonstration, and think DayZ would HUGELY benefit from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTkdHJsdnI4&feature=youtu.be&t=12m41s Additionally to that, I would actually say, that the voice chat should always be on in DayZ... why? - because this is a survival simulation and not a fps shooter - Sond is a very important thing in this game, be it foot steps, breath sounds, grunting zombies, falling trees, opening doors, or a group of players plotting an ambush. - So the quality of each of these should be greatly improved. [OT: also I hate that tunder isn't actually directional - it's very unsettling when you hear tunder, turn around and it's still in the same ear haha] That being said, I want to point out once more, that sound is acutally much more important in a game like this, than graphics are (however, I'd still love to see awesome graphics in this game) so, please don't treat the sound engine as a necessary evil, but as an important part of the game with a huge influence on immersion. Mos1ey 6301 Posted September 29, 2014 I agree but the vast majority that use Teamspeak or similar for comms would not.

On a side note, interstellar marines is top notch. On topic, I would have to completely agree with you on this VOIP integration simply based off immersion. I'm not sure I would go for the second section of constant VOIP enabled as there are caveat's with having an open mic 24/7. For instance you may be taking a brisk jog with some fellows but in the mean time on monitor numero 2 have some less than desirable pass times occuring in your headset. That said, god forbid if a global/side channel were ever integrated. You would want to be putting a bullet IRL into the asshole who pressed . and is opening a bag of chips over his mic whilst he is @NEAF waiting for someone to come along and your legging it in Zelenogorsk. d.walker43 196 Posted September 29, 2014 I agree with everything said, except for the part about the mic always being on. I think there should be an option to turn it always on, but it shouldn't be required. What if while im playing, a family member calls from somewhere else in the house, and your yelling back to them about whatever? Not only have you alerted everyone near to you that your there, but anyone that heard you is probably laughing their ass off. I personally think that its better if you don't HAVE to have it on 24/7. That being said, I have another idea I would like to suggest. right now, from my understanding it doesn't matter how loud you talk, it can only be heard the same distance away. I think that this should be made more realistic. If I yell through my mic, it should make my voice not only obviously be a yell, but it should be projected farther away. Likewise, if I whisper, it should not be able to be heard from very far away. Both would have their uses in-game. Anyway, that's my feedback. thanks.
Parazight 1599 Posted September 29, 2014 It's simply not possible to always have VoIP on at all times. It can always be worked around. Mute your mic or play via LAN. Both fine examples why it would never work. I suggest looking up the other threads on this very topic if you need further evidence.
stielhandgranate 480 Posted September 29, 2014 The idea for always having voice on has been suggested before. For not checking the archive to see if your idea was suggested, you are NOT awesome and therefore your thread tag is false.
General Zod 1118 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) No for mic always on, It would be realistic and "immerse" indeed but some people play in loud environment, with kids or other people making noise. Which will simply ruing their gameplay. And make other shoot them even more just to make the noise stop. I mean if I was in a vicinity of a guy who would have kids making noise over comms I would devote my entire live to finding him and making it stop. Randy_Pie 4 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) OK, there are some very good points against voice always on - It was just an Idea that came to mind, everytime I see streams (or when it happenes to myself) when people meet others and act like they are friendly, but actually wnat to rob/kill them AND secretly communicate with their friends over TS - and that while being right next to each other and the strangers. - It's just not realistic. But yeah, kids and other family members who talk in the background, or just opening a pack of chips would be pretty annoying too... BTW, I did read the http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/186014-list-of-already-existing-suggestions/ - there was nowhere mentioned any of what I said ;) Edited September 29, 2014 by Randy_Pie
Evil Minion 943 Posted September 29, 2014 Voice chat always on would not work as you might wish. You would hear a lot of background sounds and real life stuff you are not supposed to hear. And you would also send all real life sounds you would produce yourself. Have fun getting killed because your phone rang. "Telepathic" people on the other side would just mute their mic on the driver/hardware stage. If you know how to do it you can mute yourself in DayZ while still being able to talk to your buddies via Skype/Teamspeak. All this would do is f***ing up the voice chat making it painful and annoying to use.

I see exactly where you are coming from with this as that can be frustrating and make ingame circumstances lean a bit one sided. Ultimately there will always be loop holes and breaks in immersion when using third party voice unless one is applying ACRE or Task Force Radio :).
