fishing ain't easy

Recommended Posts

hi,

I wanted to fish and had to lay down my fireaxe after I crafted the improvised fishing rod... yeah, okay... but now I need worms and when I try to pick up a farming hoe, I have to lay down the fishing rod? Am I doing anything wrong? °-°

I have to find a place where I can find worms and the game could crash or server restart any moment. I wonder if there is any way to carry both.

Have you tried just taking the shovel or gardening hoe into your hands instead of replacing the rod?

You need a mountain back pack you can conceal your fishing rod in it and carry a melee weapon, the axes will fit in it as well. So you can carry an axe a shovel and your fishing pole all at once.  put the shovel on my back "visable" and carry my axe and fishing pole in the pack. This looks less menacing to other survivers.

I usually keep the fishing rod on my back and a shovel or a farming hoe in my back pack. Sure it eats up a bit of space but it avoids dropping items and possibly losing them. If you have enough space in your pack you can store your fishing rod there as well. I believe it takes 6 slots vertically

Yeah, I tend to just carry the fishing rod on my shoulder and an axe in my backpack. I don't actually carry around a shovel or hoe at all, they're common enough that when I start running out of worms I make sure to use the next one I find to dig up more and do it again.

Farming hoes, shovels and splitting axes take up 4 to 5 slots if you want to keep a lower profile you could get away with having and improvised pack, taloon pack or a hunting backpack. Just keep the fishing pole on your back and your tools in your bag.

Also the ashwood stick can be used as a club, I believe it will knock a player out in 1 or 2 hits to the dome. May just give you enough time to escape a potentially dangerous situation, if you want avoid killing another player

:D The stick as a weapon, I didn't think of that. Must consider it for low-profile characters.

Personally, I don't bother with carrying neither a rod nor a shovel. An axe, a rope and a fishing hook (preferably on a bonnie hat to save even more space) is all you need to carry at all times. You grab the next shovel/hoe you find, dig 1-3 slots of worms and throw the tool away. Then it's just the matter of finding the stick and you can immediately go fishing. In Msta you'll find an ashtree next to the water pump and there is a small pond in the woods to the east. There are a lot of ashes in Novo and I believe you can fish in nearby bodies of water, close to the motorway. That's just two examples, it should be quite easy for you to craft a rod, fish and then throw the rod away. These day I carry 3-4 ropes with me, a must-have for any hunter-gatherer, so I can always make a backpack, a bow if necessary or rods. So it all depends on how many spare ropes you can find.

If you can hit somebody with an ashwood stick, can you do the same with a rod? Hm...

Don't eat the worms. They sure look tasty but will make you sick and cause death eventually. Which sucks really, I've eaten lots of worms in my day and haven't died. I am feeling a bit queasy right now though.....

Yeah, i don't understand that.. the same worms that are edible for fish, are also edible for humans.

Maybe the worms are infected? Come to think of it, why don't we have infected fauna? Just imagine your face when pulling out a carp frothing at its mouth, or getting mauled by a chicken run amok.

Won't that also infect the fish if you use them for fishing ?  :P

Beats me, I'm a Survivor not Attenborough. :P And maybe they're yet to implement 'infected carps', don't forget it's still alpha. :D

No rush, dear Devs. No rush.

Strictly theoretically it would seem strange if the worms were infected, as you can cure yourself of the sickness by eating charcoal tabs, using a saline IV or drinking a lot of water and vomiting(this seems to only slow the process though) so if this were the same as the zombie infection and the cure was so simple, there wouldn't be any zombies running around.

On a side note, this game would be ten times better if you would turn into a zombie when bitten and had to chase players and infect them or die trying.

I've found that puking 3 times from water consumption is the easiest way to cure "Sick" status. Of course you'll need food aftetwards, but it's so esay to get berries and apples that is not really a bother. Though that will get bit tighter with .49. At least in the exp, about 2/3 of the picked apples are rotten...

Actually vomiting doesn't help with sickness, it's a common misconception mentioned by Merino in his guide, which was made for 0.34 (and I haven't heard anything about any major change since then). He explains the source of confusion, but I forgot atm, i think people believe that as the yellow 'sick' status from vomiting overrides the red 'sick' status from poisoning (or maybe the explanation is different, can't recall). What really saved you is drinking and eating a lot, as this helps you regenerate before you pass out from the poisoning.
