Penalised for jumping server?

Hi all, 

 

Had a strange even happen yesterday , i jumped into my server i was last on, and spawned inside the building i'd disconnected in,   to find the stuck in the house bug..  
so i jumped out that server and jumped into another to see if the same thing, which unfortunately i was stuck in the building ( or should i say the stairwell)  and couldnt go anywhere as blocked by invisible walls, 
so then i jumped out of that server, and jumped into another server to try one last time, before i came on here and posted to see if anyone could help. .  
when i logged into the next server, my guy had been reset and started in the middle of a field as a fresh spawn. . . 
Now im a little bothered id lost my character id had for maybe 3-4days and built up my health, lots of food, id got all the equipment needed to go fishing and set up stove etc in the middle of nowhere, and i had an sks fully ammo'd up, 

Now , the question i ask,    ive heard that things have been put in place to stop people server hopping in military bases etc, but is this the cause of server hopping,   3 different servers within 10minutes. .    or could it be that certain servers just reset your character anyway ??

im just a little annoyed ive lost my guy and gear , after just starting to find my feet etc and learn the towns etc, as ive only been playing for 60hours or so ...

Most likely killed whilst waiting to log out completely, anti ghosting in any shape or form is good.  Blaming your death on misconception of how the game works is bad.

You either joined a hardcore server by accident (or 3rd person their called now), the wipe went on for a new patch update....Or your character didnt connect with the server in which case youll find that no loot spawns near your character...So just try re-logging and making sure that you just arent glitched temporarily (this has happened to me)

Just a piece of advice: never log out on first floor. I personally don't log out in buildings entirely, but 1st floor and up is particularly dangerous since the game currently sees it as an invitation to break the hell out of your legs.

A friend got killed by unloading a clip on the first floor. That'll teach him or whatever.

It is easy to get out of "Limbo rooms" run against a wall and Change your weapon. Works almost everytime.

I am all for some penalty for server hopping (or rather a cost attached to excessive switching) but character reset is by no means appropriate. I think no "penalty" for server hopping should do lasting damage by itself but it should rather cause temporary inconvenience depending on the number of switches.

 

I am pretty sure this isn't a anti-hopping measure here. Of all the many discussed ideas resetting your character is probably the worst - unless someone suggested perma-banning offenders. You either switched to a different hive (First Person/Third Person), died in between switches (your survivor is still on the server for 30s after logout) or ran into that bug that seems to wipe your character. In the last case immediate switching to another server helps sometimes (this bug should be fixed before tackling server hopping).

just to clear up, i just checked the server i joined is third person not hardcore, same kind of lobby/server i always join, 
so on that note im thinking , 
1) is it possible to try jump server see if my guy comes back with all his gear???  or is my guy remembered by the server now and he will stay a fresh spawn?

2) he maybe died while in limbo, like you say maybe, fell through the building ??? or something alike to that .

hi mate,thanks for your reply, i think you've just hit the nail on the head for me /  . 

i remember now, i was in a hospital , and hence why i was stuck in the stairwell. . .

im just thinking now, if you are correct abobut your character still being visible for 30seconds after d/c then its a very big possibility that someone may well have seen my body on the stairwell after id left , i was on a server with maybe 15-20 people on it

I've logged out in the upper ladder/elevator well in the high-density apartment blocks (NW cherno/N Balota) only to be spawned into the invisible wall basement.

You may have been killed by anti hop/bug thing, but more likely you were killed by collision while stuck in invisible dungeon, or there was a server-side crash or some other miscellaneous bug aka alpher.

 

If you ever do find yourself stuck in the invisible dungeon, you can usually get out by targeting a specific corner of the building and trying to vault over it.  I've done this myself, and there are some picture/video instructions around should you feel the need to browse youtube/these forums.

I've also heard rumored that you can get out by rolling/crouching/standing etc near the entrances and you come to clip out.

IF you logged at a SAVE place and find yourself a freshy on another Server or after serverhopping...DONT MOVE..dont even look around...Exit the game...get anothr beer, sacrifice said beer to the boobs of this world, find another , Login and HOPE your char is back the way it was before you turned into freshymode.

Also, Bookmark Servers you Play on regulary. There are some pretty good hardcore Servers ( popecave and the DayZfinnland? Server are really good and full of maniacs, friendlys...ect ect... )

It happend to me ONCE that i logged off in some god forsaken house and upon reentry to the Server i tapped the Buttons impatiently wich made my char glitch out the wall and giving me a free ticket to the beach in the process..

Not the Server but the central HIVE. What causes the "back to freshy" after chaning Servers seems to be related to networkproblems of either said Server or other things and technicalitys i have no knowledge of.

I had this happen to a friend of mine just yesterday...bad Thing was he moved around after beign freshydiZed..but we wherent even mad...game is early Alpha..we Play Long enough...shrug and ( get more beer ) apprecheate the fresh start :D

Yes, providing your character wasn't killed during logout and you left the server immediately you will get your character back, they aren't wiped. However if you didn't leave immediately, and hung around on the server it would have been overwritten.
