Hello DayZ fans!

I dedicated some hours into finding out how Hyperthermia works. Enjoy :)

Thanks for that - good video. Sounds like the mechanics need a fair amount of tweaking, though!

No problem. I think the mechanics are nearly there, just the numbers need refinement in my opinion.

I'll reserve judgment until I've played it for myself, but from the way you described it, it needs a LOT of tweaking. You don't die from hyperthermia by wearing a jumper on a warm day; and you don't die from hypothermia by standing about in the rain for a bit, either.

I know it's only an initial implementation (and I haven't played it), so as I'm not rubbishing the whole thing - but the way it comes across in your video, it sounds pretty way off.

Cool video. Thanks for this!

I hope they'll add later some mechanics how to estimate the outside temperature.

No problem. Yeah I hope so too. Maybe a wind gauge too if bullets get thrown around by wind.

We just need to put in less excess military gear like ten magazines, twenty piles of ammo, three different pistols with five magazines each, four medipacks and a mobile gardeners toolbox. And some smaller items (like pens) should be made stackable.

I think the "target temperature" thing is a little odd but its probably easier to implement and oversee this way. Parameters need work though.

If overheating and hypothermia really work and it's not just status like damp then this is really bad since there are no bicycles.

My thoughts exactly, they should really add bikes now that running long distances isnt possible anymore.

Yep, i agree. It will be a big mistake if you can die from these effects whenvehicles are not added.

I am not a "add vehicles" troll, i am just making sense.

The hyperthermia in game seems to resemble extreme cases here in Australia, not central - northern Europe atm.

Trust me, I'm hyperthermic 9/10 out of every 12 months here. We don't have people dropping like flies here every half an hour, and most Aussies work outside or in hot buildings.

Even winters can be hot here in Australia depending on where you are. And cooling off can be as easy (not always!) as taking your shirt off and resting in the shade, with water and a breeze.

And no I'm not going to talk about hypothermia for obvious reasons. I love the game mechanics, just needs some tweaking I think.  B)

Looking forward to the balanced version of this mechanic. It's great to have something that will help preoccupy the minds of everyone to keep the game pace toned down. Right now you can just double tap W and zone out as you cross-country it to your next goal. This will make planning routes (other than avoiding known PVP zones) more important. Also, it's good to see water become far more important other than just giving you a healthy status. Water should be THE most important aspect of the game, hands down.

Great video. Thanks for taking the time to explore the mechanics and presenting them for us in a very easily consumable manner.

It's a game so the numbers are not going to be IRL. Take eating and drinking for example. IRL you wouldn't die from going without food or drink in just one day in Russia but in DayZ you will. I'm sure it will be refined some but I wouldn't look for a complete overhaul. Edited by haknslash
