This is just unplayable now

TWICE TODAY, TWICE.

I have logged out for one reason or another, both times in the middle of nowhere so that I knew I would be completely safe.

BOTH times I logged back in to find that my character is a fresh spawn with NOTHING.

What the hell is going on here.

Nope it happened last night to me several times too.

Didn't care most of the time but losing that pristine hunting scope, cr rifle & mag sucked bunches.

I go way north to log out(as in at the north edge of the playing area where the straight line shows grass/no grass desolate area). Nothing within miles of me.

Twice today I got a "your character was reset" msg joining an untested server. I was able to salvage my character once by going back to my Clan server but... the other time I was not so lucky.

My advice, only play on the same server(s), only play stable and look around & count to 30 before logging out.

I would also like to say that the lag spikes currently are worse than I have ever experienced in this game along with some absolutely horrible rubberbanding. I have died as a newspawn to zombies that never appeared on the screen, had chasing zombies cover two thirds of the open field towards me before becoming visible, zombies popping in and out of the floor, it is just insane. The changes made to add more zombies have drastically reduced the stability and performance of the game.

I'm counting to 60.

Yeah, I'ma go ahead and guess you didn't practice safe logging techniques. At first glance, it looks like a zombie was near enough to kill you, or a bandit, while you were logging out. Don't forget that you're technically in-game and able to be killed for something like ten or twenty seconds. Of course, finding safe spots to log out can be tricky if you haven't been playing for years like some of us. There are places near lootzones and pathways you can use, but anything without a solid mile of a lootzone or road is a risk of some level.

Of course, it's still possible it wasn't your fault, the game being a pre-release alpha and all. It's been a long time since I had spawn or reset issues, but I'd imagine they're still possible. On the bright side, the rubberbanding is much better than it used to be.

There's pretty much always an explanation for what you're experiencing. I haven't had a "random" character wipe on stable since way back February or March, and that was only once.

any chance OP is joining a hardcore server?

Nope the first thing I do when I spawn with nothing is hit Enter to make sure I can go into third person and confirm I didn't enter a hardcore server.

I might be unsafely logging, no one is around me and I make sure its several several minutes since I have seen a zombie, but I have noticed that if you just stand in the middle no nowhere long enough a random zombie will often spawn and charge you.

  • He said he was on the northern border of the map. There are no zombies even remotely close to the northern border. Unless they changed it within the last few days, zombies don't yet spawn in Novodmitrovsk. The odds of someone stalking him for the duration of the trip to the northern border not once, but twice is extremely unlikely.
  • Your character is supposed to remain in-game for thirty seconds after you disconnect, however, I've seen people remain in-game for upwards of a minute after logging out.
  • I wasn't aware any of us have been playing the Standalone for years; luckily for those of us who've only been playing it for months, it only takes a little common sense to figure out the best place within your vicinity to log out.

Yeah, I'm 'a go ahead and guess that this alpha is broken and that character wipes still happen.

It's also possible he logged in to a server which was disconnected from the hive. I have experienced this before.

That's probably what happened, and sort of what I was referring to. Generally when my characters have been wiped it's because I join a black sheep of a server. Sometimes I can get them back, but most of the time I'm boned.

This happens to me more often than you'd think. I never lose my "real" character, though.

Havent you guys learned by now when logging out you have to sacrifice a virgin on a stone alter in the name of the dark lord dean rocket hall....

But seriously yeah try sticking with official named servers, rather than billy bobs awesome pvp server ( unless its one you have played on for a long time as i play on hell in a handbasket australian servers when playing stable but these i know are being profesionally run and configured to properly connect with the hive..

Sorry to hear about your loss though...

When you fresh spawn like that DO NOT hit anything except escape and exit.  If you move then that is the character that gets save to the database, stay away from fragnet servers, they are notorious for this.  Every single time I hit a fragnet server I get the character could not be loaded message, I log out and go back to one of my standbys and I am good to go.

No zombies there, sure. No reason a player didn't stumble across him in the thirty seconds since he logged out, rather than tracking him as you thought I meant. Standalone has only been public for months, but the mod came out a while back, you know. =3 Tactics and strategic thinking has remained largely unchanged throughout the DayZ franchise - the same skills are equal or nearly equal in usefulness, including one's thought process in choosing a place to log out.

they fixed the random sounds in EXP... :D

So fixing random sounds that don't necessarily effect your character directly is high enough on the priority list to fix but addressing fall damage isn't?

*confused*

Dude, I dunno about you but Random sounds are one of my major annoyances/gripes. They've been in since Day 1 of the release and it's been 8 months of non-stop soda-can-popping-zombie-screaming-ammo-splitting ever since. I'm so fucking happy for this news I could piss myself.
