Lever-action-rifle confirmed: Rossi 92(Puma) in .357 magnum

A review about it.

On the one hand I'm happy, and on the other hand I'm a little bit disappointed that the W1895 chambered in Mosin-ammo didn't make it :(

But nevertheless, a lever-action-rifle is on the way :D

Now I really hope:

  • The .357-rounds from the Rifle will be more "deadly" than from the revolver, considering the fact, that the barrel increases the velocity and therefore also the impact-force
  • We'll be able to mount a sight on it
  • We'll be able to saw it off 3:]
  • a stock-pouch is a thing now

I hope sawing it down only removes the stock unless it has a barrel longer than the mag tube. But then the front sight should have gone.

Also it's spelt Carbine....

I think he is thinking of "LA Logune Carabine" from FNV....

Both options would be cool.

Only saw off stock, or sawing off stock+barrel(+lowering mag-capacity)

in german it's "Karabiner", so that could be the reason ;)

Nice! I like it - better than the Winchester 1895 as I wrote in the gun suggestion topic. About time we get another .357 Magnum weapon.

Though sawing off is probably not gonna happen - of you saw off a tubular megazine it just ceases working. Keep it for other weapons (like Mosin -> Obrez or the Blaze).

How do you attach the end cap of the magazine back on then? How do you ensure the mag spring is in the right place? If they do it right, like with the sawn off (can see cut marks in the end of the barrel) then you will probably only be able to cut the barrel to the mag tube or just the stock.

that's what I meant ;)

But now that I look at the pic again: the mag is as long as the barrel :s

Yeah, my bad.

I got too carried away in the hype of a lever-action-rifleee

nonetheless, a lever-action rifle which uses the almost obsolete and way too common .357 ammo is awesome,

as it also has similar damage to the mosin rounds, if i am correct (long has it been since i had the need to use my revolver)

still, i can't wait until the shotguns are fixed and they add a remington 870 in, was one of my favorite urban guns in the mod, with pellets, of course

people often times totally misjudged the range of the thing, which was about 40 meters with 1-2 shots to kill and almost a guaranteed hit ;)

the DEV-Team is working on a pump-action shotgun for quite a while now since it was leaked in twitter.

(they work on the eastern mp-155).

And the "reload-system" is the same on lever- and pump-action-rifles/guns.

You manually load each shell, and after firing you need to make a movement (lever or pump).

So I could imagine, the MP155 will come a bit earlier than the R92

That might be an issue...

I'm excited for something like this. I enjoy using the Double Rifle from time-to-time, so I'm sure I'll like this.

I would like aftermarket attachments, would be nice.

Now if only we could find sporter 22 mags somewhere not a military base.

I know :P

because ammunition does always the same dmg and has the same speed (same speed&dmg for the Amphibia and Ruger 10/22)

that would be awesome, i just don't like all the bullet-hoses out there, and since the Mosin is not a good CQC gun, and the Blaze or Shotgun are far too precise and unforgiving for misses (or in case of shotgun, bugged), i can't get the gun of my choice right now...

Nah, it's cos it will be about 1.5 times faster = 1.5 times damage = much more powerful than M4, SKS, closer to Mosin, probably one shot kill within 100 m, unless the real velocities are waived.

Yeah.

I can't see the problem in a lever-action rifle being more powerful than a M4 or SKS

Keep in mind, the Mosin doesn't always one-hit-kill within 100m.

Often 1-3 shots are needed due to lag, body-armor, limb-shots, etc.

SKS is 1.5x as powerful so it's not too "authentic", but I already thought of that, can be explained by SKS = FMJ, lever-action = JSP, this also explains how Python is no more powerful than FNX45 (JSP tough construction) as the Python can't be increased without further increasing already-massive carbine damage.

Weapons do more damage if they have a longer barrel and I hope this will be represented in DayZ as well. According to wikipedia the velocity of .375 increases by ~20% when shot out of a rifle - making it pretty powerful. In fact comparable to the AK-101 (which is more than the M4 because of its short barrel). So a probably realistic damage order of the current rifles would be:

Mosin

Blaze

SKS

AKM

AK-101

<R92 would be put in here>

M4

Sporter 22

(The Shotgun is not a rifle.)

Edit: Keep in mind that the .357 round is much heavier than the 5.56mm round making it less suited for longer distance shooting.

Neat!

.357 definitely needs more of a reason, than just the revolver, to be in DayZ.

Heh how many folks will run with this rifle, cowboy hat, raiders jacket and jeans or brown hunting pants?

There surely will be some :-D.

My worry is how fast will be shooting with it?

I do hope that will be fast to shoot with it! but next to the 4rd bullet shot immidiently to the reload, the weapon starts to spread the bullet.

This because if this is going to be slow to reload as a mosin, then people will prefer to have a mosin then, if they can't spray with a lever action rifle.
