Crashed helicopter smoke detection

I've noticed that when I am about 400-600 meters from crashed heli I do not see the smoke when looking directly at it.

 

However I do see the smoke from 400-600 (non zoom) when I look slightly on ground and the smoke is either in lefft or right corner of my screen.

 

When I got like 300-400 meters to the crashed heli, then I see the smoke while looking directly at crashed heli.

 

This is on experimental server.

 

Anyone else expirenced such thing?

its a side effect of how render distance is determined. basically you can see things a bit further away if you dont look directly at them. happens regularly in many games.

Needs fixed, like in the mod you could see them from km's away as should fires!

maybe to make it a bit harder to find them?

 

It was always fun when you found one and you knew everyone could see them from super far away and you weren't sure if you were walking into a death trap.

Ok, I really like having crash sites in stable. My only issue with crash sites, is that you see the wreckage far before you can see the smoke. It really should be the other way around. The smoke should be visible for kilometers out. Acting like a beacon to draw people in from good distances away.

i thing the arma2 black hawk wrecks are very very ugly ^^ the low level models they do not fit into the ambience. ^^

I do agree, but it's obviously due to the draw distance and performance issues. This is also happening with light from flares and fires.

 

I'm sure there will be a fix for it, most likely with the new renderer.
