Why are there basically no 3pp:off servers - grow a pair.

Looks stupid? It's realistic.

At least it doesn't play stupid.

 

I remember a long time ago Rocket proposing more limitations on third-person and acknowledging the problems it creates:

 

"I think that it has been demonstrated that there is a "problem" with the allowance of third person, and the proposed solution is the best I can come up with. It's not perfect, but if we just allow servers to turn it on/off then I think demand will dictate that people gravitate to 'third person allowed" servers - despite them acknowledging the exploits."

 

"It's going to be hard to get it right, but I really want us to try. I find I am using third person alot in DayZ SA while running long distances, or to "check" my character (like to see where I am shot to check direction of firer), but then third person is so exploitable in prone. So we are going to try both forcing first for prone, and the "sucking camera in close" and see which works best. Agree too, crouching would really benefit from a more "over the shoulder", we'll try that and put some previs up for people to comment on."

Well it's easily exploitable for starters? You can have a view of a situation without actually exposing yourself - hence unfair advantage. In 1st person if you wanna see what's going on you have to peak and risk getting shot. 3p removes that risk. Complete BS.

 

People who like 3p just go play wasteland, because DayZ is too hardcore of a game for you.

Good enough has nothing to do with it, my characters are full geared on hard core as well, I often play it but do not prefer it..I prefer a third person view point

listen this is not rubbish., in real life your pheripheral vision is 120 degrees and you can see to the sides just flicking your eyes, third person view pulls the camera back giving you that wider view.. Its just a visual preference thing, and what about looking over walls in real life, you can do that easily enough, but the game is not that advanced.

I grew up loving resident evil , silent hill, and not call of duty and counterstrike, So I've always like third person games.

 

I love the logic. On one hand you are claiming the peripheral vision is 120' (it's not but let's not get into that) so you want to use lamecore to give you that vision but then you go on to say that it's more realistic. What utter fucknuggetry. 

 

If you genuinely wanted more vision alter the FoV slider, don't give some wet knickers justification for using lamecore.

I wish they would do something like "The Fourth Wall" mod. If it was done properly we would not even need separate hives. No "hardcore", just "DayZ".

Pretty much this is the ultimate solution and any amount of glitchyness brought forth by this mod is worth it since it would improve gameplay ten fold.

 

Not really sure why the devs are skirting around the subject.

 

What are they so afraid of ?

Well apart from fixing the 1PP and removing 3PP altogether. Not that it'll happen that way, the tears from the lamecore amateurs at the merest thought of removing their beloved "visual hacks" would be enough to bring out Noah to build another ark.

Tomb Raider? That's it? Care to take another look through that list of games again.. Oh, and don't go into the whole master race crap. Last thing we need is another flame war.

 

Back on subject, why even the need to discuss it. Some people like 1st. Some like 3rd. Its not just DayZ, I can think of a load more games in recent times with the same "3rd person is abused arguement. I prefer 1st person hardcore, why I play DayZero more than SA.

To add to that, accessability guys. Like it or not, this game wasn't made just for the 'Ultimate hard core survivalists'. Hence why they make it optional.

The problem i have with the fourth wall is that it doesn't hide everything, and really, it should. When you wander in a town in dayZ, if you don't exactly know how the next intersection is laid out, why should you be able to aquire that information by 3PP peeking?

 

given the fact that this is already out there, requires less coding and calculating to implement I have no problems with how it functions right now. The point of contention is seeing other players and zeds - I don't really care if people can see terrain so much and if I ran up the street, or I've been to a place enough times, I'll know what it looks like anyway. Right now I can think of how Cherno looks and where the road layouts are and I'm not even playing the game.

Then why don't you play 1PP servers, they have made them available in the mod, they have made them available in the Standalone, you people do not play them until you ruin everybody elses fun by changing up 3PP servers. It's too late in the day to change the way the game looks as too many people would drop the game and go elsewhere. 

 

Dayz isn't hardcore after the first 1-2 months when you have to deal with clunky controls and weird key bindings and bugs. Dayz will never be this 'hardcore' game you think it is.

It doesn't increase your FOV at all. If you want a wider FOV then adjust your FOV slider that's what it's there for.

Good idea, I think there should be a Easy/Medium/Hard selector in the menu options for people like that meaning when you get hit by bullets in Easy mode they don't hurt you as much and that you don't need to eat or drink as your health stays at maximum all the time. In Easy mode you also start fully geared up.

the wall in that screenshot is so low it just prooves my point. The character could easily grab the wall with his hands and pull his eyes up to see over it.

Yeah but he doesn't, there is no disadvantage to the FPS only view if everyone on a given server is constrained to it.

Funny, most 3pp games are single player and they do 3pp better than dayz. In the end who cares. Let BiS segregate the community. FPS players will play 1pp and WoW players will play 3pp.

well dont say its so unrealistic then, because looking over a wall like that is realistic. The second point works both ways so is moot.-there is no advantage to a third person view, if everyone in the server has access to it.

The reason why 3rd person gets everyone so passionate is because of the nature of the game of dayz. You spend a considerable amount of time looking for gear, especially if you're playing the game properly (as in not server hopping to gear up quick). To then get shot in the back by someone you never had a chance to see is bad enough but in dayz it's worse because of the investment you put into it. Why should some prick get your gear because they used easy mode to kill you? That's what the problem is.

Yes it does increase the field of view greatly. switch between first/third and you will see more to the side/pheripheral sides/behind of your character.,

How many of you 'hardcore' players are using FOV slider to gain zoom and sh*t? How many of you are inception inventory?

Because i never do either FOV Sliding to gain scope, or inception inventory..

There are worse exploits than a view change

this is true they could put the camera a bit closer like Gears of War/ Res Evil 4 and the view exploits would reduce massively, also disable zoom out for infantry...

Nope and this has already been proven by dsylexci on youtube. It hardly affects your FOV at all.

That doesn't dispel anything...The guy on the roof always has advantage , whether he's in first person or third person, he has the height advantage (enabling him to poke his weapon over the edge) where as the guy on the ground has full body revealed, now whether that situation was in 1st or 3rd, it wouldnt make much difference.

Ok, lets make the game insanely hard, make it really difficult, really realistic, and only appeal to one crowd and lose out on sales and be criticised for not catering to all play styles.

 

Have I made my point clear enough to you yet? You can't have everything your way. Hence why such options as 3rd person are optional. My preference is hard ore. Don't mean to say I can't see all sides of the arguement though.

Another such solution could be to remove 3pp when crouched or prone.

 

This way people can still use it to travel but not to peek over walls or camp roof tops.

 

That is with an adjusted position so its much lower than now.
