Grimey Rick 3417 Posted June 11, 2014 I'm legitimately curious. I'd give an honest estimate that 80% of my kills in DayZ have been due to people overextending themselves. If I'm defending a position, what makes you think you can rush me? Is it pride? Ego? Too much Counter-Strike and not enough ARMA? I realize that it doesn't take much effort to gear up at the moment so we might as well take calculated risks, but doesn't the half hour process of finding another gun and attaining healthy status sway your decision making process even in the slightest? Wouldn't you rather wait for an opportune chance to strike strategically than to rush me like a moron hoping to pop off some random miracle from the barrel of your gun? TELL ME!

fuke (DayZ) 22 Posted June 11, 2014 In my case it's usually a combination of: impatience, frustration with the perceived cowardice of my teammates, urge to avenge fallen comrades, and faith that the desync gods will let me shoot my opponent before he can even see me standing in front of him.
coltonlong 211 Posted June 11, 2014 Rick, if Im rushing you, youre a corpse. Only CoDlers and braggarts rush. I enjoy the thrill of the long hunt. I sit back and bleed them.... A shot in the foot, a broken arm..... I get off on making prey suffer, lol.
nexventor 429 Posted June 11, 2014 Causes there is no rush like the pushing rush. When I am pushing on someone my heart is beating out of my chest, the adrenaline is pumping and I can taste the victory. Oh and it is very very rare I die from a push, usually when people are glitching.
Dagwood 680 Posted June 11, 2014 Because lots of people will logout if an encounter isn't going favorably. Rushing can sometimes score you an easy kill on a logout corpse. Had a guy yesterday pump a clip of 5.56 into my chest-helmet when I topped the ladder in a tek building in electro. He was lying down on the roof and I had no idea he had been there. I climb down and bandage. Try to talk for 2 minutes, climb back up and he's logged off. If I had rushed up instead of weighing my options I would have killed him. Rushing is a legitimate strategy in cqb at the moment. On a side note, I think your character saying goodbye at an audible volume when you log out would help balance things. Most of the players I try to trap inside of buildings end up logging out before I breach. Pretty shitty gameplay =\
Mos1ey 6301 Posted June 11, 2014 My guess would be not enough ArmA/not being comfortable with making shots over 100m. They probably feel like they have a better chance if they get up close.
Hetstaine 10852 Posted June 11, 2014 I rarely push..i'm a waiter. Last time i did , and i knew i was being an idiot, i died at the doorway to the atc tower.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted June 11, 2014 I rarely push..i'm a waiter. Last time i did , and i knew i was being an idiot, i died at the doorway to the atc tower. Wait 10 minutes. If they don't come out in 10 minutes then run away screaming like a little girl. This ethos seems to win most of my gunfights for me in both ArmA and DayZ. preacherlr 614 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) I tend to push a little more when I know they're using dodgy tactics, Ie looking through walls and such.. If they're willing to do that, they're willing to log out and hope you don't find them.. Edited June 11, 2014 by Preach
sloasdaylight 129 Posted June 11, 2014 For me, it's that I know I'm going to respawn 5-10 minutes away from my corpse. WTB Mod spawn points.

matejkvassay 13 Posted June 11, 2014 There's a rule that side that is attacking defending side should have twice as much resources than defenders.
Bororm 1156 Posted June 11, 2014 I do it because I don't care if I die, and I play to pvp so why should I back off from a fight. My success rate isn't bad and it's fun. The only time I don't bother is if guys are glitching in walls, and some times even then I'll give it a go.
blacklabel79 949 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) There are times where i or one member of our cult gets impatient and tries to rush it...heck we all tried to rush the other day and died in a ridicilously stupid manner :D Patience is key. If you get cornered, thats bad News of course. The 10 Minute rule is a good one. Edited June 11, 2014 by {Core}BlackLabel
Dragor69 12 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Me and my team rush all the time. a= its fun. b=it works...most of the time. Nothing like a stand off in the blue door building in Berizino. Edited June 11, 2014 by Dragor69
hiniberus 122 Posted June 11, 2014 I enjoy waiting, lurking and having them come to me or run off. Better yet when I lose them and they try to hunt me down, only for me to cap them in the face when they are camping in their 'vantage' point :

Karmaterror 982 Posted June 11, 2014 We need more breech and clear tools before il start trying to rush entrenched players. Smoke would be a nice start for building snipers :)
Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't rush. If I hear someone/get shot at, I'll dive into a building with a closed off room(second floor/no windows), sit down and watch the door. It's not very smart to charge a well defended position, but people usually do anyways. Besides, I'm generally hugging the tree line, scanning with a Mosin. Close quarters is overrated. Briljin 102 Posted June 11, 2014 I only rush when I have nothing really to lose and a lucky shot will net me a huge win (like having a blaze and taking down a fully geared opponent). Even if I die it is only a few minutes to start over.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted June 11, 2014 You'd be surprised how many people stand their ground vs flee or log when they're being rushed. I think more people than not understand risk vs reward and the risk of having to run around potentially for a few hours to get geared up and healthy vs the reward of likely some ruined gear many times isn't worth it - if rushed I've witnessed more people back down than stand their ground. Thus rushing or pushing towards someone can totally be worth it, especially if they're geared at all...
bauertschi 254 Posted June 11, 2014 When I play in a group, it's usually the case that someone (usually not me) starts pushing and I follow out of some loyalty thing that does not allow me to let him run into doom all alone. DAMMIT! Now I don't really know where pushing really starts and ends, so...:When I am alone and playing seriously, I either run when someone sees me and my position is bad for immediate shots or I run and change it to some repositioning. If I spot someone on the other hand and it seems like I was not seen, I go into hunting mode and try to get into a good position using the terrain. That may include predicting the future movements of the others. I actually lost ppl that way. The same happens when I hear someone in a town, but I am more partial to faster movements there, never lingering. When things get ugly with ppl standing around corners, well, anything is possible and I try to avoid that. I hate drawn out fights in towns where you see nothing about what is happening behind the next row of houses. I never rush in terms of yoloing a position the enemy is holding and is just waiting for me to pop out my head. Slowly entering buildings with players inside though is something I do. Something I need to get better at. Every time I die doing that I know exactly what I did wrong afterwards...
