Definitely!  I'd would suggest getting hold of them and asking permission if anyone wants to use anything they created, they might be happy about someone wanting to do something with what they created, on the other hand, they might not, which may be frustrating, but it might spur people on to create their own stuff inspired by it.  Never underestimate the power of frustration!

Some real life islands of similar size I would like to see are Guam, Isle of Wight and Malta.

 

Three quite different terrains and climates.
