Honestly, if they just re-named the AK-74M to AK-101, would that do anything for folks?

-snip-

Yes, because then its using its actual caliber.

AK-101 (5.56x45 NATO)

AK-74M (5.45x39)

Aside from the mag being curved a bit more on the AK-74M, they're identical aesthetically.

fyi, I flagged up your post to the devs..

Always nice when a heated thread pulls off a modest amount of genuine compromise.

62gr projectile? ir is it 6.2gr?

62gr seems a lot.

It is 62 grains.

Weight of the most common 54r for example would be 147 grains

I seriously don't understand how anyone can like 5.56 AK-74's and terrible accuracy. They are already fixing the accuracy, making defending it pointless, but I guess you can do it anyways.

I wont reply to anyone who wants to fight

Well from what I've seen, the AKM is much better. I haven't actually found it but a guy in a video was hitting things at 300 meters with a pristine folding stock. Not confirmed or anything but I think so.

That just suggests to me that they will continue to have dispersion as a game mechanic.

The whole cosmetic accessories affecting accuracy mechanic will continue. Unfortunately

How about add both? And add the 74's proper caliber!

This solution maintains the developer's desire to have a minimal amount of calibers at this time, whilst appeasing those who take issue with an AK-74M firing a round that it's not chambered in.

Couldn't care less about their desire to be lazy. I don't really understand why they think streamlining the calibers is a good thing.

More calibers = larger loot tables, larger loot tables means less chance of finding exactly what you're looking for and causes the player to search around more and navigate the map looking for that ammo type.

Personally, the I believe the loot tables for everything should be huge and more bloated. There should also be more useless novelty loot that can be used for crafting should be implemented.

Ah i'm just so annoyed by their design decisions.

How not adding the ak74m in any form unless it is true to its real life attributes.

Adding what amounts to a civilian or curio relic firearm in dismal numbers would not solve anything.

I don't agree with it either, but trying to find compromises that they can work with AND at the same time appease some critics of the system, vice just saying "my way or the highway" in essence over and over again, seems to be a better way of looking at it.

I want more ammunition types just as much as the next guy. But I'm also a realist, and want to improve the stated goals with compromise.

See but that's the thing though. We need to show them the majority dislikes that design decision; we find it dumb, and it can only detract from the game.

Compromises are nice and all if they decide they won't budge on the issue but if that is the case, they'll have lost a majority of supporters. It really feels like they're moving away from what DayZ was supposed to be.

It feels less like the Road and more like your generic fps.

But ultimately, you can't speak for anyone other than yourself. So any notion of a "majority" is irrelevant.

I certainly agree with you daemonkid, I'd also rather see the ak74m chambered in 5.45x39 (as well as the 74u).  That being said...  I don't think we're going to be getting more ammo types untill the manner in which loot spawns is more dynamic and inteligent.  As seen with the pistols, bloating a portion of the loot table (mags) can have a rather negative impacts on the viability of weapons.

oh yeah, i still want one of these....  (incoming off topic request!)

it's an m92 :).  Essentially a 74u with a bit more balls (and spits 7.62x39).  Recoil is a bit fierce w/o a muzzle break though, so right there we have a potential attachment that could have a "realistic" impact on the weapon.

What a fucking cop out. Like, lmao. Weapon calibers is like a 3 second thing to implement. It's easily coded. Then all you need is someone to render the ammo, which would not take long at all, and then the box itself and 2D art. It's not exactly rocket science and would be about half a days work, at the most.

I also design maps and levels. Building a game is a team effort dawg, so don't give me that shit. Fucking cop out.

Dunno, it just feels wrong. I know that type uses NATO rounds, but come on, in eastern block country?

It's gonna feel like shooting M4 with just different "skin".
