Well the helicopter threads are pages long and fiream weapons threads heavily outnumber melle weapons threads.

That is because melee is absolute ass right now.

That is just cause melee will always be crap.

As for the helicopter threads from what I could gather it seemed most were against them.

We had a couple of major helicopter threads, the last one I agree with you was in favour of less modern weaponry, however the previous one, I was overrun by cod kiddies wanting to attach machine guns to helicopters and cars. Well yes melee weapons are crap compared to guns, and only an idiot would pick a bat and not a gun in a fight, but melee weapons are more of strategic weapons. Would you waste a bullet on a single z when you can easily remove it with a bat (sorry these rules do not apply in dayz), and risk giving your position away or draw more z's to you.

Perfect example is 7d2d, especially when looting a town, you do not use a gun unless u need to.

i really hope so, IMO any armed aircraft will kill the game and lend its self to a pay to win style game.

And you would shoot a person from 300+ yards, why? Was he a threat, did he have that one can of beans which you really needed because you were going to starve to death? You would risk loosing that bullet which could save your life later on, why?

Oh sorry my apologies i thought we were playing apocalyptic survival game not a pvp war game. Please go on.

Oh sorry, I'll do anything to survive even if it is shooting someone for the chance of getting his food and not starving myself.

Helicopters are on the way, not sure if they will be armed. Unfortunately we have large groups consisting of mainly friends outside a game, and usually do not let anyone join in, so we have some single players like myself who are picked on by these groups. These groups will obtain parts for helicopters, cars etc. faster then us single players, making them even bigger bullies.

Fair enough, but at the moment shooting someone has nothing to do with food or starving. It just makes you either lazy or koser, especially shooting someone who is nowhere near you.

But is that really why your shooting them ?? it cant be the case currently as well food is abundant i roll in a group of 6 to 8 guys and food is so common we carry packs full of it.. Maybe later on it will be the case but if you have a few bullets and no idea if the guy your going to shoot has any food in the first place why would you honestly do it ?? ( the canabilisim is a legit idea as he is the food)

Actually think survival maybe this guy your going to shoot could help you raid the town you passed but couldnt loot as there were to many zeds to do it alone.

Hey if you want to deathmatch thats fine everyone is allowed to play as they wish just if its deathmatching your after dont call it for survival when really your just getting ya jollies by ruining someone else day .

I just get tired of guys saying one thing but actually meaning something else oh i shoot newspawns because they compeat for the same resources its survival hmm that could be true if its not the case that they just respawn and then there still there going for the same resources not to mention you likely just ruined all the resources that person had on them. Oh i see a guy with a gun there a threat so i take them out huh you saw them first and you shoot and there the threat??? i thought the threat would be the dozens of zeds that should come howling for your blood when you have let your boom stick of on some un suspecting sucker..

I was under impression that we're talking about hypotetical situtation in the future of SA and not about how we behave right now.

It's just a poll, it has no incidence on what the devs will do anyway.

right, i just hope the devs won't suddenly go into the direction of casual gamers, that would just end in old DayZ fans abandoning the game and casual gamers being bored of it after about 2 months or whenever the next CoD game comes out

I don't think their idea when making this game was to make a cuddly wonderland :)

I dont want the game to be unforgiving as if that means you are going to die easily all the time. This is what I don't like about the game already. There's no surviving, you just go fine fine fine fine fine fine fine fine -> dead. Wheres the struggle and the surviving??? I would like to get sick AND survive, to get hurt AND survive, to have a sprained ankle forcing me to limp for half and hour. To have permanent but non lethal injuries ocurr to me, like losing view from one eye, hear from one ear, losing some fingers or a hand (just one xD), getting a hardly curable respiratory disease causing my char to go tired easily or chronically injured by a poorly healed bullet wound. Extreme cold/hot temperatures are to be a factor, hypothermia, heatstroke...

I would like my character to see someone and tell by his way of walking, by his clothes and by his aspect he has gone through a lot of shit and survived.

This isn't a jab, but I want to follow up with a question or two.

Have you played a game that is unforgiving, iniquitous and makes you pull your hair out before? Why did you stop playing? If not, how do you know you will like a game like that?

My gut tells me that people say they want to be hardcore and all that, but when their teeth fall out, and they can't eat anything but canned peaches(which would be practically non-existent), then they are going to get mad and quit. If you do everything right, and you still die 80% of the time, how long will people stick around?

3pp is still in

they are adding respawning loot

they increased the running speed so people dont spend "all day" running

Weapon dispersion so unskilled players can level the playing field with skilled players.

-I have no answer about 3pp sadly.

-Respawning loot is pretty much needed even if the sole point is to stop servers from being restarted all the time.

-No idea, alpha, testing etc etc?

-A skilled player shouldn't solely trust his superior ability to aim down the sight when he should ensure to be the one under cover and with the tactical advantage in a firefight. Everyone die the same to a bullet, hot shot or not.

For me the answer to the first question is twofold: In general the game should be pretty hard to emphasize player interaction (both cooperation and banditry) while also providing a challenging environment (being a lone wolf should be possible but really hard). More specifically the regular gamemode should be hard but have some (minor) mercy with the players to make is accessable to casual players as well. The hardcore gamemode should be just that - hardcore, unforgiving and deadly.

(I voted for very hard on average)

The most difficult thing - thats even harder but here I got the right choice. You should struggle to survive your environment to the point where its very advisable to make some friends and work together. This should not make it easy though, just more manageable - but might also mean to share those sparse resources. Here comes the second part: sparse resources which might cause competition between survivors (or groups of survivors). Fighting between players should be less for entertainment (most of the time) and more for gaining or defending resources.

(I voted for all of the above)

Rarity - well just make it comparable to most real life environments. Civilian items should be pretty common. Military items should be pretty rare. One-time resources like food or ammo shouldn't be too common - and not every player should have a gun (let alone a fully upgraded military rifle with multiple magazines). Being fully geared and well nourished should require very hard work and also a little bit of luck.

(Military weapons should be rare, but civilian weapons should be common / uncommon, and ammunition should be rare)

This. Nothing has been better experience in the mod than barely survive a hard situation where you're hydrating, bit lost, no food anywhere and you've caught a disease. I also liked how Namalsk added those creatures and EMP strikes so there was another depth in survival. If temperature and wet clothes come in it will be another cool level of survival especially when winter hits the Chernarus. Edited by St. Jimmy

and YES.

i have played games that are unforgiving, harsh, dont take your Hand and are extremely difficult

i came from dark souls and demon souls!

played ghosts and goblins

megaman x

castelavania symphony of the dark

ikaruga

contra

oldschool castelvania on nes

sin and punishment

as well as countless street fighters, king of fighers and blazblue

(edit: honorable mention:     TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES NES Underwater Level!  I DID IT)

How so? It gives you a tactical advantage in PVP but third person will have no effect on disease, zombies, and other PVE aspects.

3rd person lets you ignore zombies much more easily no matter how hardcore you make them. You would literally have to give zombies xray vision to make it fair and challenging.  And other PVE aspects have things to negate them (like medicine to get rid of sickness) which again is much easier and low effort to get when you have magical camera above you telling what is behind that wall where the medicine might be.
