Torchia's "Guess That Gun!" Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hello again DayZ community! So, Chris Torchia has once again begun another challenge of "Guess That Gun!". Where he posts a picture of a WIP (Work-in-Progress) gun based on a small part of it. He is asking us what is the part and what gun does the part belong to. I am no gun expert/guru so I thought I would inform y'all of this mysterious challenge, and he wants us to tweet him the answer by tomorrow. Lets do this!  :D

My assumed and imprudent answer is the SVD.

Here is the two twitter links: This one is the explanation ---> https://twitter.com/ctorchia/status/468674831979147264

And this one is the actual picture ---> https://twitter.com/ctorchia/status/468675899001683969

Although I know how much some of y'all loathe Twitter, so here is the picture itself.

Alrighty! The community was right that it belonged to a Pump-Action Shotgun. The MP-133 Baikal which is essentially a Remington 870. Props to Katana67. :)

Not sure exactly where this would go on an SVD, it's clearly nothing like a portion of the flashhider and there's nowhere else I can imagine it going.

Besides, Chris recently stated that "7.62mm DMR-type" rifles would not be added until a change in the loot system, and that discussion was on the SVT-40, which technically isn't a DMR (the SVD is)

Maybe they lied? Or maybe its apart of Rockets crafted Sniper rifle he was showing awhile back.... lol.

Hello.

im no weapons expert, but it looks like a part from a modern rifle. I think it belongs to a gas-driven 5.56. This part is mounted on the weapon and has two functions; the recoil feather in the rear of the weapon goes through this ring. The upper teeth of the ring is the rear end iron sights.

Thats my best guess.

thanks.

Looking at the dimensions of the object (40mm by 36mm* by 22mm) <-- can't make out the 36mm too clearly, it appears to be a portion of the tube from some grenade launcher.

Haven't had time to look, but that'd be my first place to start looking.

If it is indeed the AS50 thats going to be the first high powered grenade weapon in game. But i would hope its a grenade launcher attachment for the M4A1 which can be mounted with one if im not mistaken.

Interesting...

My first guess would've been a PKM, but I've been way off before...

I can't tell sorta looks like a barrel nut.

Hope it's a civilian bolt gun though.

Knowing the paltry amount of information that I do about SVD internals, I don't see anything that jumps out at me. Same goes for the GL theory, but that's certainly possible. They've rendered the AK-74 with the GP-25 before.

My theory is that it's either a gas-block of some kind, or a component of a front sight assembly. Could be a slide-stop on a shotgun as well.

I doubt it would be SVD, as that has been revealed already.

I am going to say Remmington 870.

Maybe this part of the barrel from the GP-30 granadelauncher? As someone mentioned before, there were already pictures of one mounted on an AK.

As I remember the GP-30 projectil has a diameter of 30mm, so the size would fit.

AFAIK the tube is all one part.

BFG

Would be a perfect gun to add into a simulator and it would greatly help balance the game. The ammo could be those super hard to find batteries!

I thought so too, so I went and disassembled mine and I couldn't find anything that resembles it. I thought it might've been the slide-stop/retainer, but it's not (could be a different model though).

Folks are saying it's the end-piece of a Bizon mag, not entirely convinced, but as good a theory as any.

Wouldn't a gun be modelled as a single part (accessories apart) rather than a large number of parts linked together?

Yup.

.22 caliber rifles and shotguns need to be the most abundant firearms in the game.

Like by far the most common weapon.
