Salkinius 2 Posted May 11, 2014 So, I was running around in Svetlo and got shot in the leg. I managed to crawl behind a building and waited there, while I was trying to bandage myself and make a splint. The problem was that the server was so laggy that it didn't allow me to do anything except moving around and accessing the inventory. When I tried to do anything it just said receiving. So instead of bleeding out I opted for a change of server. so I jumped server and entered one where I easily could both bandage myself and fix my leg. Then I exited that server and tried to enter the one I first bolted out of, but I couldn't remember which one it was. So was that ok or wrong? My feeling was that the server didn't allow me to play the game,
qww 287 Posted May 11, 2014 haha dont worry man you did right, it was the server error, you are not a coward!
Irish. 4886 Posted May 11, 2014 In your case, you did no wrong.. when the game goes bonkers no one can blame you for logging out, or trying to fix it by using the methods you did. But normally, the best thing to do is just leave your player there.. if the phone rings, or the baby cries. You dont log out. You just lay down and hope your guy stays safe until you can come back. Logging out during any form of combat or interaction, even with zeds is really just failing to play the game honestly if you ask me. But again, when the game forces your hand.. do not feel guilty. DaveAzoicer (DayZ) 135 Posted May 11, 2014 But what defines combat? It's quite hard to say in DayZ, I spent 2 hours a couple of days ago fighting some scumbag bambi-killers (players with no gear), after they tried to take us out as well. They stayed until they died. We didn't see them half the time due to distance and objects/walls/houses. But during that whole time we didn't know if they were maybe gone and were flanking us, except that we always keep an eye on the surrounding. So how did we know when for example 5-10 minutes of no sight of them, that we were still in combat or not? But yeah, if server messes up, leave. I've done it, usually it's been due to a zombie hitting me and I couldn't bandage after it.

But it was the servers fault, as sometimes the connection between the server/client is dropped and there is nothing you can do except move.

Yeah I guess not, But, then again he was killing bambis, so I'm not too worried about his feelings. Thanks for the answers.
kakysas666 191 Posted May 11, 2014 Disconnect whenever you want. If an aggressor didn't managed to kill you with first shot, then he sucks, not you. Also it is his own fault if he lost you from sight and lost opportunity to kill a still body (30 sec.) Combat logging makes camping and waiting useless though. However, if they are brave enough to shoot, they should be brave enough to rush you and kill you before you log out.

Salkinius 2 Posted May 11, 2014 Now, since I didn't know what server I originally was on I took the opportunity to do some other stuff. Now, when I logged in again I have to start all over. I'm a fresh spawn. Do I have to find my original server to find my character again?
comikz 218 Posted May 11, 2014 It was the servers fault not yours, you did the right thing.

Salkinius 2 Posted May 11, 2014 Your old char is more than likely gone. If he didn't pop up in the next two sessions then your new char is you :) Damn, But nevermind. My old char was fully equipped, but this session when I respawned I saw more action than I have ever done. Got chased by zombies from the get go. Ran in to a hangar and found an axe. Got really beaten up before the axe finaly found home. When I looked up from the Zombie I saw two guys in the hangar watching the action and who helped me out. Still alive and safe. Getting fully equipped have lost its charm.
gearjammer 97 Posted May 13, 2014 My last life ended for that reason coupled with my own noobness. I was searching for sticks or morphine to repair a broken arm and didn't notice a zombie. He hit me and caused me to bleed, and after dispatching him I found that I could not bandage. I assumed that this was a mechanic associated with the broken arm so I searched frantically for sticks to make a splint. I was rushing through every shed, garage, or industrial building that I could find until I eventually bled out. A few days later I learned that this was not the case and I could have just logged out and fixed it later or joined another server and bandaged.
-DMG-Jonesy 226 Posted May 14, 2014 That sounds okay. This dude? At roughly 3 minutes? Not okay.Closes the doors behind himself, and logs. ( We checked the building, and could see both exits at all times. )
