The TANK Thread

Recommended Posts

So much for the survival aspect of the game. God i hope devs arent reading these forums. Yes i will attack the tank with my heavily damaged hoe.

Coming up next, "i want nuclear weapons" thread.

LAV or APC is not called a tank by anybody except maybe you. Since you googled the word tank, why did not you phrase:

"

Modern tanks are strong mobile land weapons platforms, mounting a large-calibre cannon in a rotating gun turret. They combine this with heavy vehicle armour providing protection for the crew of the weapon and operational mobility, which allows them to position on the battlefield in advantageous locations.

"

So again, by saying tank, majority of people would think of....a tank as if with tracks, huge cannon and lots of armor.

So nothing you could disable with weapons we have in DayZ, as you have boldly (and wrongly) stated.

Just give it a rest and/or stop trolling, good night.

again: Where the fuck did you read that i want tanks on the game.

I said i want APCs, maybe LAVs, preferably without guns, or with a m240/m2 max.

whatever...

Even those would be impractical in the game.

Impractical just like helicopters would be.

"The name "tank" was adopted by the British during the early stages of their development, as a security measure to conceal their purpose."

Half Correct. The term tank came about because the people working on them thought they were going to be building WATER TANKS.

Looks to be a Pershing turret/gun and a Sherman Chassis.

It's kind of beautiful. Minus all the garish things they put on it.

1.1 Mobiltiy along the coast, if they add rivers you have a good vehicle overall.

1.2 Way to the 2 islands already ingame

1.3 Swimming tent ( if you can actually log out in a boat)

2.1 You are safe

2.2 Something for end-game

2.3 Tbh, starving shouldn't be the ultimate priority after having a character alive for weeks

3. Why should a server restart reset your vehicle?

Agreed. Boats are an awesome logistical multiplier. They let you move extremely fast, with little effort. A single person sailboat can be taken upriver, and can easily be modified with oars to add muscle propulsion if needed.

As with helicopters I do not see the point.

This NOT a war game, why make it one? It's a survival game and as said if you have tanks you need to have rocket launchers.

Which every asshole will just camp with in Berenzino or wherever an annihilate anything that moves.

They make no sense to add, especially not with the lack of a destruction engine in the game this game is about realism so shooting at someone in a house and it not blowing the crap up is retarded.

Cars will be enough, they will be tanks in this game and I think they're all that should be added in the way of vehicles, except maybe motorbikes or bicycles.

Taking on a group of guys in a jeep or something would be hard enough as a fresh spawn don't give people tanks too god damn...

The coast would just be hell and the game would just be terrible, absolutely terrible.

Actually you can level houses in A2 with a big enough explosion. have yet to see if it works in SA as we dont have satchels to play with.

Vehicle modification was mentioned by Rocket, so most likely it will be in, "soon" after vehicles.I dont see tanks being useful - considering how long it would take to repair them, and how easily they are destroyed.

I'm not entirely sure yet if tanks really would make the game better. As with helicopters that might be armed with MG's or even more they have to be implemented very carefully to not ruin the balance and end of days flair. Right now I feel every feature that adds to the survival aspect is a step forward while every modern weapon that get's added is a step towards the old ARMA military simulator again where it all started.

On the other hand improvised vehicles (and Molotovs to counter them) would certainly be fun and we need every ultra-rare late game content we can get but currently I think the devs are better advised to spent all their focus on the most basic ingredients such as zombies, survival & performance. A good game needs a good basis, not lot's of additional features.

I would love to see a minigame like feature that allows you to weld plates of metal and even mounts for guns to ordinary cars in the good ol' A-Team style but I wouldn't be mad if this only get's implemented as DLC after the game is done and released. It's always fun and productive to think about it even now yet since we have no real idea how the game will look like when it's almost done I'd say we're a bit early to already fantasize about how additional high-end stuff could be added to the game.

Well considering the frame rate of throwing objects right now is like 5FPS I doubt they could get crumbling houses worked in to the physics very fast.

They dont cumble with a pretty animation like BF games, thiers a big smoke cloud and the building turns to a rubble pile thats it.

Well its only like that because Tank Girl was based off of the comic book. And the tank was flashy like that in it anyways.

I want to see armored vehicles like these police ones. (top picture: Calgary Police service. bottom picture: Royal Canadian Mounted Police)

armet-balkan-mk6.jpg

Of course things like Anti Material rifles would have to be implemented to combat these vehicles. But these vehicles and the weapons used against them need to be super rare and hard to get parts/ammunition for.

just shoot the tires out then cook the insiders with some molotovs.

Use your brain FFS. Vehicles with wheels are vulnerable even with tons of armor.

I don't think you understand what kind of tires are on the vehicles. Military and law enforcement tires on these sorts of vehicles may take many rounds before running flat and even then they may have steel or solid rubber so they can never run "flat".

The devs will never introduce tanks or armored personnel carriers. Bookmark me.

Anyways I'm sure they're oh-so-easy to kill. Just pop tires, shoot tracks and apply molotov.

o9AtFP2.jpg?1

jRO5YPj.jpg?1

Oh wait. Nope. Take the old BTR-80 for example. Protestors in Ukraine threw a dozen molotovs right onto a BTR and the crew survived the incident and the vehicle was still operable. Most "survivors" aren't going to be carrying dozens o molotovs ready for use. BTR has run-flat tires so good luck shooting them out and a mobility kill with a Mosin is not happening.

It has NBC protection, night vision capability, 4x gunners sight, 600 km range, is fully amphibious, protection against 7.62mm from all directions and stops 12.7mm over the frontal arc, 500 rounds of 14.5mm and 2000 7.62 with an effective range of 2 kilometers...

If you wanted to troll in any of these vehicles you could button down the hatches, swim out into the ocean and fire at people from hundreds of meters with total impunity. Yep, sounds like something real beneficial to the game.

Yup Tanks would be impractical. Just like helicopters would be too.

Those two things feel out of place int he low tech survival world of dayz.

You present this idea as if only "honorable" folks would want one.

You can bet this would become number 1 vehicle for KOS'ers and other dudes and then forums would get flooded with pissed off people describing how they were crushed by tank and loled at via direct com.

So while having tank is surely realistic, I am confident it would have very bad influence on gameplay.

Also what would you want next? Nuclear submarine, Battleship, mobile artilery?

Such stuff is best to leave for Arma, have you try it? Arma 2 - 3 are good games.

I'm sitting here reading your posts, and I'm still wondering how the heck you apparently thinks it's really easy to get run over by a tank. You can hear those coming from pretty far away, and, in ArmA II at least, they went about the same speed as you sprinting (The tank I played with in Operation Arrowhead that is).

road-killed = clueless.

You should never bee engaging armor in an open field or on a beach where it has clear view of everything and you have no hard cover. in fact this is how BF2 works. enage vehicle in open = death sentance. apparently that wanst cool so they had to arcadify it in BFBC2 onwards.

if you play smart tho, an IED of some sort would relatively easily disable tracks/wheels if you ambushed it in narrow streets and AVOIDED it otherwise.

Also if anyone had actually bothered reading my propsal were writing of thermal/NV optics systems as unrepairable due to specialty parts and training required to fix those.

T-55: 48 km/h

T-72: 60 km/h

BMP-2: 65 km/h

BTR-80: 80 km/h

BRDM-2: 100 km/h

I remember the first time I played Wasteland I found a BRDM-2 with no ammo. I just drove along the road ramming passing cars which would instantly burst into flames. A couple people got out of one and I chased them around knocking down trees until I eventually ran them over, their AK-74s couldn't penetrate the armor or deflate the tires on the moving vehicle.

We are really not sure how fast those tanks would be. You can check Gews post about speed of tanks, 60 Km/h isn't exactly slow when compared to running people.

Also the fact, that including tanks would mean including more RPG's or other means of defence against tanks.

Before you would know it, DayZ would turn into Arma 2 with zombies, which I surely would not want to.

Feel free to disagree with me, it's your right, but even you have to realise that tanks would change gameplay A LOT....and I'm really doubtful it would be for the good.

EDIT: DayZ mod and most of it's mutations (except Dayz 2017) provided excellent gameplay without single tank or APC. Why should it be different with SA?

Why do people keep bringing up molotovs? Do you think a tank has wholes in it? Do you think they fill with water when it rains?

I do think it may eventually be alright for some sort of tracked vehicle.

Definitely unarmed (or with a GPMG), definitely rare, definitely difficult to repair, and definitely fuel inefficient. I really think that people need to take a step back and actually analyze what made things like tanks/APCs and helicopters "overpowered" in the mod(s). Because they aren't objects that are conceptually incompatible with DayZ as a game.

Plus, I wouldn't mind if the majority of the seats were on the exposed roof.

The way I feel about tanks in DayZ, is that they should be used as movable cover. Pure and simple.

800px-MT-LB_US_Marines.jpg

I don't see any issue with having a lumbering, armored, vehicle in DayZ. If I were to bet money on it, I'd wager that the vanilla vehicles will end up being teacups in terms of armor. And even if they get armor modifications, they'll be more or less the same as an APC.

We know so little about vehicles in DayZ, that I don't think we can make a call one way or the other on tracked tanks or APCs.

I think that, depending on the way that they executed, it could be great. Of course, tanks could also be horrible if they did it badly. I guess there's no real way to tell.

I guess this goes for almost anything they add in the SA.

I think you can find solace in knowing that once SA is open for modding, there most likely going to be some spinoff which will add tank or APC or something.
