Dear Dean and the DayZ dev team

Hello,

 

I have played the mod since February 2013 and loved it.

 

I waited for the standalone to come out ever since you announced it.

I just gotta say thanks for the standalone, it is now my host played game on steam, (232 hours) and I've owned steam for 4 years and have 40 games.

We all know this is the buggiest game alive at the moment, but honestly it's the game I have the most fun on. It is now part of my normal week to get into my squad every night and kill some bandits. To be honest ArmA 3's character mechanics and the futuristic style did not go well with me. I'm so glad that you've combined ArmA 2 mechanics, but with ArmA 3's graphics.

 

Anyway, continue the long and hard work on the Alpha.

I like this game but i will not thank these people at bohemia. After 5 months of alpha their development really is disappointing and i can't believe people praise a game thats so broken! So many fan boys who thinks this broken game is a god send which really bugs me. It's a unique game and very intense at times but it's a broken game that deserves NO praise whatsoever at this point.

Also, Dean is leaving Dayz because he believes it is flawed at the most fundamental level and it could never live up to the game he wants it to be. So he will leave Bohemia and make a better game. Don't believe me? Go and read the interview.

And to the poster above, moderators hate free speech here especially if it talks bad about the game or especially if you talk about their competition H1Z1 so yea they may lock it if more people complain about their development.

Because you say the pace of development is slow. Id like to see what you base this on and how deep your experience in the field is.

i guess many people have no idea how much work it takes to program something

 

these people clicked "yes, i understand" but didn't really understood what they were buying

 

the dayZ dev team does a great job, here and there are bugs that ruin the game as it is now, but it is an alpha, and not finished, so people can't blame the devs, only themselves

Feel free to use one of the existing topics to blame Dean for worldhunger and war.

 

If you do it in a normal fashion and without swearing or calling anyone names it needn't be locked. But do not hijack other people's threads that merely want to thank the Dev-Team.

Just don't mention h1z1 and maybe they won't censor u.

 

Inform yourself before ranting, there is a dedicated topic for H1Z1 and nothing is being censored. I will most likely try it myself once it releases.

No I don't believe you, because you're wrong. He is NOT leaving because he thinks te game is 'fundamentally flawed' maybe you should do your homework.

I feel this Forum is moderated in a very well.( plus, i dont think your time here will be pleasent if you continue your ways...) Reminds me of the relicforums at times.   Anyways...Thanks OP !

We don't lock threads based on whether they're positive or negative, ya know. You can call us the laziest weenies on the planet as long as you're constructive and polite about it. It's the pointless, rude, or plain stupid "hory shet u suxx" posts that make us groan and start digging graves.

Ok i wont mention h1z1. (Damn it, that was my best card)

I have only played 7d2d and project zomboid as alphas. Both bring out updates regularly especially 7d2d.

But lets keep other games out and focus on dayz. Lets not even mention that 90% of this games assets came from the mod.

Clearly they are having scripting problems since glitching isnt being fixed, maybe its lack of skilled workers or the game engine, that i cant tell you. However i can tell you when it comes to their design and 3d art team they are hopeless. Not sure if yourself has done any game designing or know what it takes to make 3d models, i have as a hobby. For a team of full time workers it would take about a week from scratch to design all the buildings you see in dayz. And when i say a week im being generous. I can design a house in a matter of minutes, and upload the fbx or obj file into a game engine in no time at all. Beauty of game engines today, to create colliders is only a click of a button. Bugs such as glitching can occur even when you have colliders on, thats where a good scripter can come in handy. Colliders, door animations, are all prefabs made only once. Hope this answers your question.

It's funny how you signed up for this forum just around the same time H1Z1 was announced, especially seeing as you never really do anything but bash DayZ SA while promoting Sony's game. Smedley? Is that you?

map - a huge amount of changes and additions

 

Sure you can knock up a house model with collision quickly, but then you have to put that into the world, manipulate the terrain to place it. Then sort out all the flora and roads to make it look natural. Map design isn't a quick thing if you want it to look really good at the end.

 

Also a house model with collision isn't going to cut it for the AI, it then needs nav-meshing. Some programs like hammer make this quite easy, but even then a small l4d2 level could take a day or two to refine the mesh....test it.....refine it....test it....ect. One of those maps constitutes maybe a 1/4 size chunk of cherno, so imagine the task ahead for the guys working on that.

 

It not as simple as when we learn 1 or 2 aspects as a hobby :)

I think there is a huge difference if you develop for ISO or full 3d....there was a  interesting Panel with Dean and the Zomboid Crew. Maybe look it up ;)

 

I did alot of modding "back in the day" for several ww2 strategy/tactic games. This involved creating Skins and models. ( and by the way that got me a Job at a games Company )

 

IMOH, you never know what is beign worked on internaly. Iam fine with the pace as it is. I can leave the game for 2-3 weeks and come back and find something new. Thats all fine in my book.

Not new models, just new textures and GUIs. Yes you are right its not as easy as i put it, but they are full time employees, not hobbyists.

Well I can tell you from first hand knowledge of doing exactly as you have described here for the last 7 coming up on 8 years of working in 3ds Max.I do this for a living but, not in the capacity of building games but,specifically in conceptual modeling and animations.The models that I create are not even 1 tenth to detail as this game and doesn't involve scripting or working within a gaming engine.That being said,you have no concept yourself of the the trial and error aspect of getting things built into a 3d world model,depending on the size of course much less,a world the size of this particular model(ie,..Chenarus Map).Then placing these 3d model items into the world(map) some with animations,some without.Adding the materials and getting them to look right to the players within the model world(map) and to work properly.There is so much involved in just what I have described and tons of other aspects(sound files,scripting,effects,etc...)that come into play and must all be tested and working properly to get the desired effect the devs are wanting us to experience.Then throw in 40 + people at various bandwidths interacting at the same time?? Are you serious??? You should possibly put yourself into actually doing this before stating something(ignorant) of this magnitude in a public forum.You don't have a clue of the bigger picture you just have a little snapshot and want to show everyone your cute little hobby. Nice Try,though.....

Awww cute thread.  And what I mean by cute is all the trolls coming in and going blah blah blah development slow, blah blah blah DayZ sucks.  Go build your own damn game so I can criticize how much it sucks and you're taking too long.  Anyway, good post OP.

The Standalone is awful right now, Epoch is a thousand times better so the sooner we get base building, cars and tents the better.
