True Reason For East-Coast Spawns? Map Expansion?

Rocket stated some where they've decided against adding Utes because plopping in a premade island just didn't really fit.

I believe there already is an easter egg in the SA that is hinting at a map addition down the road.. (possibly) it would make sense for the map designers to have something to work on once Chernarus is finished and at that point it would also be much easier to design a new map I would think.. not easy, but easier.

Yeah that billboard has been in since Chernarus came out in 2009. Sahrani was the main map in the Original Arma game or Operation Flashpoint if you're an old-timer. Sahrani was an amazing map probably better than Cherno IMO, too bad it never caught on for the mod, the map was so fun for the week that it was popular. I'd love to see Sahrani adapted to standalone, but let's get tents and vehicles first hehe.

I'd rather see the server sizes expanded before there is any sort of map expansion. Right now, pretty much anything (except for the NWAF) off of the coast is as dead as last weeks dinner.

I read somewhere that the land area of chernarus is 180 square kilometers. With 40 people per server, that gives each player 4.5 square kilometers TO THEMSELVES. 

Even with 100 people per server, they still will have 1.8 square kilometers to themselves, which, if/when (hopefully) agriculture is put in, would be a respectable farm plot

Currently 50 of those 100 players are probably just PvPing in Berezino. If they want proper 100 player servers, then they first have to encourage people to visit the smaller towns land inwards.

Yeah, we're talking long-term here. The dispersion of players will come with the same things that caused it in the mod. Tents & vehicles spread people out a ton.

The possibility is there, there are arma 2 maps way bigger than chernarus,

 

the real problem is to fill the map with enough people so it wont be to empty

 

right now the map is allready extremely empty once you go away from berezino/NEAF, yesterday i was in chernarus without anyone else but zombies, and all loot still there...

 

i just hope this will get better when tents, storage and cars are brought into the game

Of course its temporary, what makes you think it isnt? The devs have said that they really wanted players to be able to navigate in the world easier and that explains why so many maps now around. My guess is that they will keep changing spawns to various specific pockets in the map so that players can get familiar with the entire map eventually. The downside is that a lot of casual Joe thinks this is COD and have no regards to looting, surviving at all. I was watching 2 french streamers last night playing deathmatch essentially - it was pitiful to see, really not what Dean had in mind im sure!

I am an old timer.. and I know about all of that. ;) ..and I agree it was one of the few maps that was worth playing, with the change of scenery and great map design.

 

Now as far as this being a possible easter egg; Consider that they remade the map, and left this in. With the other things in the map.. Ive got an inkling that they have some ideas for DLC, and this just may be a hint of that. BIS is known for its paid DLC maps, and how well they tend to sell. Once final release hits, they would be foolish to not release a new map 6 months-1 year down the road. Outside of mods, and one of the few things that will keep this community alive.

Tents and storage will not make people spread out.  If anything people are just going to place all their storage near a hotspot and continue the pvp.  Actual surviving methods is what will cause people to move inland.

In some cases, definitely, but I'd be willing to bed against that. I know I will be putting my shit in a far away location. People that make those little stashes will often come back to empty tents.

Would be great. No need to ever loot a town again. Walk through a nearby forest and leave armed to the teeth

Having hiked the full interior the borders, the amount of unused space is vast. Not just the forests and glades but also the seamingly endless expanses of grassland veldt. There are miles of "gonowhere" 1 and 2 lane roads in the interior as well.

In the mod there were literally dozens of tent cities up in the northern part of the map at the dam, west of zelenogorsk, in black forest, and in forests all over the map, but mainly at the borders

 

what would a tent storage which you can not lock accomplish in a hotspot area? pretty much everyone will find and loot it

Yeah with those roads and empty spaces you can clearly see where towns and cities are supposed to be. Theres just a ton of gravel areas/parking lot type things even if you look at DayZDB. At the northwest you can see a giant area where it's rumored some sort of prison will be.
